I was going to put this piece in church101, however, the holy spirit put it on my heart to have it stand alone.
A great leader and visionary created the following in the last couple months. It's a message towards a group of believers and the role the church may take in their life. However, it's applicable to our homes, work, and schools.
Based on the concept of defeating giants...
1. Defeat the giant of isolation...create a culture of community, a place to belong.
2. Defeat the giant of pride...create a structure for discipleship, a place to learn and grow.
3. Defeat the giant of selfishness...create opportunities to serve, a place to discover and use our gifts.
4. Defeat the giant of poverty...create a spirit of generosity, a journey that uproots greed and supports kingdom growth.
5. Defeat the giant of exhaustion...create a setting where leadership is recognized, developed, and empowered.
6. Defeat the giant of silence...create a platform to speak to our community, embracing the local marketplace as our mission field.
7. Defeat the giant of depression...create a venue for celebration, where the presence and power of worship heals brokeness.
8. Defeat the giant of abondonment...create hope for families, a place for couples and kids to connect.
9. Defeat the giant of secularism...create connections with this generation, specifically on our local college campuses and present an uncompromising message of grace and truth.
10. Defeat the giant of religion...create events in our community that demonstrate genuine freedom and spiritual unity.
11. Defeat the giant of disrespect...create generational cooperation, a place where mutual honor and respect builds a bridge of trust and partnership.
12. Defeat the giant of destruction...create a safe place for healing, where the tormented, neglected, and abused can find genuine peace and purpose.
So whether a parent, friend, principal, pastor, business owner, leader I'm confident we can apply a few of the above "holy spirit" guided steps in our own lives.
I encourage you to walk this journey with me and others. Let's use this thread to provide examples as to how we are applying the above concepts in our lives....Happy Kingdom building to you and yours!

Spirit, I am not trying to troll your thread in any way but felt the need to post.
The title of the thread is "Facing Giants" but what if those giants are church goers who claim to be Christian?
Long story short, my daughter has been constantly harassed by a group of girls that spans over two different churches. Because of this, she has now gone to a third church. In addition, my wife has been at odds with some of the parents which who also attends these churches and she is now conflicted as what to do as she enjoys her church but feels that she is not able to worship. I myself do not attend church nor believe in the gospel (due to reasons similar to this).
The situation got out of hand recently in which one of the parents threatened my daughter and some of her friends. Yes, this same parent who volunteers and attends church each week.
So now what? Those like yourself say to pray over the situation but that has been done countless times and yet the situation has only gotten worse. I myself want to encourage my wife and daughter to not got to church at all as I don't see the point, I won't because I believe everyone should be able to choose for themselves if they want to worship or not, but sometimes it is hard for me to stand by while these wicked, hipocritcal people claim they serve a higher power when in fact they only project evil.
I'm not really sure if there was a specific point that I am trying to make. I just felt that need to share.

Judgement Day,
Sorry to hear about the giants in the church and no need to apologize for trolling, you didn't and thank you for sharing.
I will encourage you to re-read the facing giants post. Pray and meditate on the words and ask yourself with Jesus guidance do you and your family want to have a personal relationship with him at home or do you need your local church to do so? It would be my sincere hope you can do both. The Pharisees at church have more hurts and hangups than you and yours will ever know. That's why their carryong on. It's a cry for help Judgement Day.
I would encourage your wife and daughter to go to the Pastor and discuss their experience. The pastor should be equipped to handle this situation. I would encourage you to reach out to LWC here on bgr and pm him. He's a good counselor. I'll pray for ideal outcomes and Gods divine order establishing a peace with the folks involved.
You can also nurture your own walk with the Sermon Thread and Church101. I've shared numerous denominational posts to be inclusive. Also many non-denominational. Choose what speaks to your heart. God convicts my heart with Francis Chan sermons. Many folks utilize online sermons in their walk with Jesus Christ. There's a lot of amazing satellites to the holy spirit out there.
Praise and worship wise there are any number of videos on Youtube to watch or your local christian radio station. The key is time with Christ, and you and yours have more control over that than anyone else. Don't let the turkeys get you down. They're not giants. They're elves who need some hugs to get back on a good foot. It's not your familys job to do so....but it is to tolerate them and forgive them in the interim. Feel free to pm with additional concerns or questions. Have a blessed rest of the week brother and god bless you, your family, and the church.
