LOS ANGELES -- Standing on crutches in front of his locker with his sweaty game uniform on his back and tears in his eyes, Kobe Bryant confirmed the worst news to hit the Los Angeles Lakers in a season already full of heartbreaking disappointments.
Bryant said he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 118-116 win over the Golden State Warriors on Friday, putting an end to his season no matter how far L.A. advances in the playoffs should it qualify.
"Just terrible," Bryant said. "It's a terrible feeling, man."
Bryant will undergo an MRI on Saturday, but the team is calling the injury a "probable" and "complete tear."
Bryant fell to the floor with 3:08 remaining in the fourth quarter while being guarded by the Warriors' Harrison Barnes. Bryant had played every minute of the game up to that point, scoring 32 points in the process -- including back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game with 3:45 remaining. "I made a move that I make a million times and it just popped," said Bryant.
Bryant asked Barnes if he had kicked him in the leg. When Barnes said he hadn't, Bryant said he knew that a major injury had occurred.
"I was just hoping it wasn't what I knew it was," Bryant said. "Just trying to walk it off, hoping that the sensation would come back, but no such luck."
Following a timeout, Bryant went back into the game and hit both of his free throw attempts with the injury to end his night with 34 points, five rebounds and four assists before being subbed out for Metta World Peace and heading to the locker room.
"MRI, surgery and then recovery," Bryant replied when asked what his next step is. "I was really tired, man. Just tired in the locker room and dejected and thinking about this mountain to overcome. I mean, this is a long process and wasn't sure I could do it. Then your kids walk in and you're like, 'I need to set an example. Daddy is going to be fine.' I can do it. Work hard and just go from there."

This is terrible. Love or hate him, the playoffs won't be as fun without a Kobe-less Lakers, and the league needs him.
This delays him catching MJ, but he'll be back before Christmas.

This is what happens when you try to play at the ago of 50 and try to hog the ball and score 40 a game.
Glad the Lakers are done.

I am sorry to hear that this happened. I was looking forward to seeing the Lakers get booted early from the playoffs and hearing Kobe's excuses. I did find it hilarious that Kobe's first reaction to the injury was (as usual) to try to blame somebody else. (He actually suspected that Harrison Barnes may have kicked him.)
I still hope that the Lakers make the playoffs without Kobe. In fact, I would not mind seeing them advance a few rounds without him.

It's funny the ref called a foul. Just more proof of a rigged system .

I can't wait until Kobe comes back, passes MJ in career points, and wins another ring. You may hate him, but you know its going to happen. This is far from the end of his career.

Kobe is listening to every negative comment right now and will be thinking about them constantly as he rehabs that ankle.

No one beats father-time! Lol
I don't think this is the end of his career but I do think his title runs are over, and not because of this injury but because of the Heat and Lebron James, and the Thunder.

Kobe will be signing with a new team next year. He will be one of the teams better players......

And the clippers have basically taken over staples. I believe your right though. Kobes title runs are over. And if Howard doesn't stay id say lakernation runs into a lot of trouble. Its time to start rebuilding. lol with young players

Don't ever underestimate Kobe, bro

Heat will get one or two more. Wade is out of his prime and already lost a few steps. Bosh is weird. LBJ is in his prime for a few more years. After he sees a significant decline in Wade, I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump ship again. Could see him being a Laker when they get rid of Kobe, Pau, and Artests contracts next year. Obviously they'll resign Kobe for less than 30 mill a year.

Howard went off in their first game without Kobe ... hmm..

Lebron didn't jump ship. He was the damn ship. And Wade has another good 4 years playing with bosh n james wilk help his game when it comes to getting older. Pat Riley will make sure LBJ stays in south beach and on top of the league until his prime is over. Some people have a hard time dealing with facts. Kobe will go down as one of the greatest, but his time is over. 5 chips, 2finals mvp, and 1 season mvp. That is the significant hardware bryant will finish with.

I said Wade was out of his prime. He has no great years left and few good years left. Four is a stretch.
Lebron left his hometown, won't be as difficult to leave Miami.
Kobe's time is not over, believe dat.

Why does everytime Kobe Bryant is mentioned it's always... Lebron Lebron Lebron.... LEBRON didn't hurt his ankle. Lebron wouldn't ever get hurt in a GAME, he would act like he was killed whenever someone wouldn't touch him though.
Lebron wouldn't have a championship if it wasn't for Wade IMO, since we are talking about the HEAT in a Kobe BRYANT THREAD LIKE EVER WHERE ELSE!

Wade wouldn't even be in the playoffs if it wasn't for Lebron!
