Westboro Church to Visit Harlan County
#1
"Tomorrow our funeral home is assisting bringing home Staff SGT Ryan Austin home to be buried with his mother and grandmother at Fields Cemetery at Cawood. We have been informed the Westboro church plans on protesting this. I am asking on behalf of his family lets show Ryan's family our Harlan County support. His funeral procession will come from Corbin on the bypass to Cawood. Graveside is tentative for 2 pm. He will be escorted by police and the Patriot Guard. Lets take a moment and honor this young and his family tomorrow."

This was posted on my facebook page last night. The possession has already left Corbin. Please pray that there will be no violence.

I am glad it is being referred to as the "Westboro Church". When Baptist is included it becomes misleading because I do not know of a Baptist church that operates like they do.

Hopefully all has gone well.

I don't know of ANY church that operates the way they do!!

I'm just hoping everything is calm; this could get real bad real fast.

The funeral possession has passed through Harlan city. It was a breathtaking and remarkable thing to see. Literally hundreds of folks stopped dead in traffic or lining the route, standing at attention and many waving the American flag.

So far, there have been no incidents.

From what I have read, Westboro just sits there with their signs and chants. I don't recall them ever getting violent but I could be wrong.

Well, services are complete and everything is fine. I understand that the possession was surrounded by Westboro folks in Corbin, but police and "volunteers" were able to make a path for the hearse and accompanying vehicles. I don't believe Westboro ever made it to Harlan County. (could be wrong though Wink

The jokes were all over it in Corbin last night, but were politely asked to leave

I'm so thankful this is over. This situation could've gotten out of hand real easy.

Sounds like there was quite a showing for the funeral! Glad to see all of the support for a fallen military member. Also glad to hear that the crazies from Westboro didn't cause any trouble.

Did anyone see the news interview of the Vietnam Vet who drove 4 hours to the funeral when he heard Westboro was going to be there?
#11
I didn't see that! But wouldn't be surprised. Vietnam is my time frame; we're all radicals!!
