Campbell County @ Highlands 8/30
#1
I heard a tremendous analogy of Highlands game against University Christian. UC made this a game in the 1st quarter as the Birds found themselves. Then, UC got gassed and the Birds took flight and never looked back. Well, last Friday, the Camels were gassed by coin toss, so this game will be interesting.....

The Camels come charging into Ft. Thomas for a long awaited match-up. Kudos to Coach Lickert for putting the Camels in this game. He, being a former Bird grad, knows exactly what he is putting his team up against. He is a tremendous motivator and I look forward to watching how he "coaches" during this game. The positives may be minimal on the field, but he will use this to his advantage as he gets his team ready for District play. When all other local coaches have nixed the Birds from their schedule, Steve will use this as a tool to motivate his team for as long as the Birds will keep them on the schedule. Bottomline, the Camels will not face an NKY 6A team that will pose game speed, execution or athleticism that they will see this Friday.

I really don't see the benefit of playing a game in which your jv will be in by the 2nd quarter. Same could be said for the SK /HC matchup. You need 10 cornerbacks to play with HHS to counter their receiver rotations. Nobody carries 10 cornerbacks.

Been a while since the Birds and Camels played. Last time was 2004 according to the records on the Highlands-bluebirds.com site.

Always enjoyed the games against the Camels when I was an HHS student back in the 1980's. Did not enjoy all of the eggs that were thrown by the Campbell County students at the Highlands fans during the games at Campbell County however.

You are right, BUT, who should HHS play????? They are a 4A school, they can't travel 300 miles like Trinity every week just to get a game. As for the Camels, they have a coach that is strong enough to keep his kids on track regardless of the outcome!

Spot on.
I think everyone believe HHS has the ability to call a team and schedule whoever they want.

IMO, this is good for HHS. Close game against a much larger school.

HHS 38

I was also a student in the 80's and you are right, the games against the Camels were always a lot of fun. I remember the eggs, but the best was when they put a stake in the 50 yard line at our field with a pig's head on it. I miss those little pranks that if happened today the kids would be in big trouble. Would love to see Camels up their program and give HHS a good game each year.

There are a whole bunch squads across the river that are more than good enough to give birds a competitive game. Winton Woods/Mason and many others.

What kind of message do you think it sends the kids in CC middle school feeder program when they see their varsity getting pasted? Do you think that helps CCs retention?

The school may be larger, but the roster is not. My understanding is that HHS roster is about 110. The 6A schools in NKY are about 85-90. Ryle may have a little more, but not much.

100% unequivocally YES!!!!

When your program was down trodden and the best players from your middle school was leaving and going to New Cath or Highlands because your program was losing every important game, then you point would be valid. But, when the players stopped leaving and stayed at the school to play for a hot new coach, then you get back to back District titles and now get to play in one of the most advanced stadiums in HS football - a single game against Highlands won't detract ANYONE!!!!

Does Highlands getting pounded by Trinity each year hurt or help them? It is only going to help them get better.

I remember a Lickert that played RB for Highlands back in the early 70's. He was a quiet hard working kid. Is this the same guy?

Very impressive indeed! Thanks SD!

The game may get ugly but at least a 6a school is stepping up and playing the cake eaters. Go camels

Just the fact that a Northern Kentucky team has stepped up impresses me.

That's true. Nice job on the Camels part taking on Highlands as a non-district game

Sound like this could be a start. Or a reboot of a rivalry

Let's hope so!

I just wish some older rivalries could be restarted, like NCC and Highlands! That used to be way bigger rivalry than Highlands versus Cov Cath.

Highlands running clock.

I don't know highlands might have to nobody want to play them

Can you spell BLOWOUT? No disrespect to the Camels. I wish them the best, but they're gonna get steamrolled.

I don't see Coach Mueller bringing the noise for 3-4 quarters against a team like the Camels as he would say, maybe Covcath.

Between Coach Lickert seeking this game and the history between him and Dale, I don't see this getting as ugly as it could.

49-21 Birds...2nd and 3rd team play majority of the second half for Highlands. Regardless of the critics and whether you like or dislike Highlands, watching them play, make adjustments, and execute is fun to watch from a football perspective.

Also to continue this match up, don't think Lickert would tolerate 63-7 drubbings. Although achievable it shouldn't and won't happen. I'd like to think Mueller has too much class and respect for his former stalwart player. Hats off to the Camels for exposing themselves to a great learning opportunity.
