Hmmm that sounds like a fan that knows he is going to come to Harlan County and get whacked.

looks like about a 4 to 1 vote in favor of Harlan county. I will say that the second half will be the big difference in favor of HC!!

I'm not sure who coined the phrase "king of the mountains". Not even sure I know what it means either!

Belfry's young defense has to learn to play across their opponents facemask from the beginning of the game. Youth tends to thing avoiding contact and going behind a lead blocker is the best way to play it. If Belfry's defense has learned this they will keep it close at half and the best halftime adjustment coach in the state will do just that and the Pirates sail to an impressive win. Glad to see two great mountain teams hooking up(just wish it was week 5 or 6). Pirates 21-14.

Ok i have been labeled the trash talker from Pond creek so here it goes,,,,,I will not talk trash to the Garland County fans because they have been great so far....But as for the one Who Likes it Ran Up His Gut...who is a Whitley County just mad because the one time Whitley County was good BELFRY came and beat em down...So all the .ER talk is stupid, if anyone needs a .ER visit its Him, and then transferred to the Psych Ward from there because these two teams both hit hard, and all this talk about The Bears bein Better i disagree...The Bears do have experience but We will be prepared...If BELFRY plays good the first half then it's gonna go down to the wire...Of course I'm gonna go with my Pirates but they are gonna have to play a good game and not turnover the ball...Harlan is good but they do have weaknesses and they have been exposed from the film, so all I can say is Let's get ready for some Good mountain Football and may the best team win and pray for no injuries....Good Luck Bears, and i can't wait to see your stadium...

I have to say if there was a KING OF THE MOUNTAINS it would be Belfry. But on the other hand we pirate fans are so glad to be playing such a great team as you say. This will only set us up for a state championship. We've always been tough and still are, but getting to play a good football team will always help out. I hope we win but its going to be a learning experince. The winner of this game will be the team with the ball at the end. I think its a 5a V/S 3a good luck to both

Harlan County has several running backs they can keep fresh. I'm with everyone else this will be a quick game because of the running game and I see Harlan County scoring every time they get the ball.
Go Bears!!!!!

Who is it that so young on defense? How young are you talking about?

Belfry started 6 seniors, 4 juniors, and 1 sophmore on defense if I can recall correctly but one junior (Jacob Francisco) got injured the first play of the game. Also, one freshman played alot at DT (Rayquan Horton). 5 of the 11 starters on defense are first year starters.

We have plenty of backs also.....but our backs stay fresh because they play offense only..with the exception of Hatfield who is situational defense...And our running game is just as good if not better than the Bears....gonna be a good game...no blowout....We will see a tougher team than Somerset....But you will see a far better team than both Madison Central and Clay county.......Go Pirates

You actually have recalled wrong. Richard Nelson came through the tunnel as starting DT, but he did not start. Ray Horton did. The 1 sophomore will be replaced by junior Keaton Taylor Friday, I would say.

^ I was pleased to see Willis getting some quality PT, and take away a couple plays and he did fine out there.
It seems as if Edwards is slightly ahead at safety, despite a couple poor plays. He sure put some work in at the gym this offseason.
Austin Hall (Frosh) is going to be very special at DE. I love his speed and athleticism in the flat. He will be a quality option against spread offenses but his thin build may make it hard to hold up against Harlan's ground and pound.

I'm surprised Davontae Dari isn't starting at safety this year. I thought Horton started but I was just going by what they announced at tunnel time. I know Nelson started last year and was suprised a freshman was starting over him.

i thought i seen freshmen Bentley playing both ways?

Sorry friend, Harlan County will have the buses ready. Belfry will get blown out in this one. Its going to get very ugly very early.
And Whitley wasnt that good that year. Lost 4 or 5 games. And im not a Whitley fan. Im all about my Black Bears and there filthy animal defense.
Im Harlan County born and raised, and were ready for an emergency room afternoon son!!!!!!
You might be the pond creek trash talker, but after this week your going to be hiding in pond creek after you see what the Bears do to you.

Dont worry Fuzzy, hes probably going to go away for a long time after friday.

And folks on here say that BELFRY fans are cocky.
09-02-2013, 12:46 AM
Bentley did play both sides. Coach wants to rest him as much as he can on the defensive side of the ball, is what we got told. He will only get in on defense when a team starts moving the ball down the field on us. Not a big fan of the move since Cole wants to play both ways. Just have to see what the rest of the year brings us.
09-02-2013, 12:50 AM
Yes at one time their was 4 freshmen on the defensive side of the ball. Bentley, Horton, Hall and Catron was in a few plays together in the second and third quarter.

When you put a good solid team on the field every once in awhile, you have to jump at the opportunity to brag, boast, and toot your own horn, because it only comes along a few times per decade. But when you are the Belfry Pirates, you don't have to jump at that opportunity because WE put solid teams on the field on an extremely regular basis! So win, lose, or draw; hate us or love us; you MUST respect the TRADITION! "We your huckleberries Black Bears, so come get you some" See you on Friday, Nuff Said.

Whitley or Harlan either one it's safe to say Bowling Green is not something you're familiar with?

Correct.
Were not a 3A team where we get to Bowling Green and get beat by a team named Central every year.
If HC was a 3A team, it would be all over.
2nd place is just as big of a loser as 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
The Bears will feast on friday.

I liked it better when Gut was telling me two years ago that Harlan County was about to decline due to their graduation losses.
I don't think I've seen anyone else trash talking in favor of a team they don't really like.

I disagree, I would much rather say had we won, we'd be state champs. Harlan has to say "if we won, and then won again" ... I'll take what we have over anything. And yes, if they put a school with 1200 kids in 3A it probably would be all over LOL
I know one thing, if you practice what your username preaches, you'll be giddy on Friday. A lot of "running it up the gut" will be going on!
