We may not win a game, but we could break a record of being the only 0-11 team in the regular season.

I've missed a Harlan County thread this week!! No lamenting and nashing of teeth!!

By the way Gut, I was looking at the schedule to see if I could get you to drop by our next home game...guess what....we don't have anymore!!

I noticed that last week!
Thats crazy. You'll get Southwestern or Lincoln at home in the first round than North or Madison Southern at home in the second round. So atleast two more home games for the bears.
Hopefully work will be straightened out by then and i can catch a game over there. Ill actually be out of town until saturday, but will be on a little during the afternoons to clean the mod que and stuff.
A bye week couldnt have come at a better time for HC. It will be a good week to get things straightened out.

I think that's really odd, and was going to complain that we hadn't filled our bye week with one of those teams. As it turns out, that's our next three games!

Yeah i was going to pick out a game in the area to go to this friday, but the closest game to us is in Pulaski County i think...Even Harlan Ind. is playing away so guess i will just skip a game this week...

Harlan needs the week to regroup. An injured bear is a dangerous beast.
10-02-2013, 11:06 AM
According to Coach Larkey, this week will be used for lots and lots of conditioning which i dont think was ever a problem to begin with, but gotta keep em' in shape this off week, it will also be used for fundamentals such as hanging on to the dang ball..Also there is going to be a strong emphases on pass defense, and not just with the Line but mostly with the secondary, IMO this is good to hear. I never doubted Larkey, i might have expressed my opinion about things i would like to see, but never doubted him, in saying that it sounds like he is using this week to work on the things that hurts HC as a team. I especially like the work with the secondary especially with a potential showdown with Pulaski down the road. I know i'm looking ahead but as a fan and not a player/coach i am allowed to do that.

This HC team has a lot to prove, for starters that their key players understand how to play fundamentally tough football. As for crowning them district champs and assuming they will play Pulaski in the Region final is not smart IMO. Part of the problem this year I believe is that this team has was being crowned King of everything before they even won a single war, much less multiple battles. I am pulling for this team to buckle up and play solid football, but until they prove themselves on the field in a consistent fashion I dont believe we should assume anything or should they be crowned anything.

I think the black bears will be just fine. Maybe the last few weeks have been a wakeup call. They've had some time off the get back to Larkey ball. He is a great coach and he will get them headed in the right direction. So I would say that there is no redemption needed in Harlan county just some getting back to the basics!

As a fan and not a player or coach i get the privilege of posting opinions, and all that..I do agree that everyone was getting a little ahead of themselves with saying they would win region, and go to BG..I do think they will win district, and win it pretty easily due to the fact that the district is down badly this year, now the region is going to be another question all together..If HC can hold onto the dang ball, play fundamental football, just overall play like everyone knows they are capable then they will be alright, and should play for another regional title, and so on...Right now Pulaski county is on fire, Madison Southern is play well, and then Larkey's son at NL is having a good year, so region won't be easy with those teams out there..BUT i have faith in HC and in Coach Larkey and honestly think they will be just fine....If i'm looking too far ahead then that's ok, as a fan we can do that..

Mr Ware, those boys will be just fine. One thing about losing the 2 games the way they did is they know EXACTLY what the problem is and I am sure Larkey knows EXACTLY how to fix it. As long as the fans don't let them lose confidence in their abilities, they will come out of this on top. Good luck Bears

Black bears will be back and quick :Cheerlead
10-03-2013, 10:56 PM
Everyone is talking about regrouping. It's not like The Black Bears have lost to lousy teams the three teams that has beat them could very well be state champions (JC will have to beat Highlands). Nothing wrong getting control of the fumbles is all they need to fix. The two new DB's will need game action to continue to improve. I have no problem saying Harlan County should be playing at Pulaski for a regional championship. It's like the people that dreaded opening the new field against Bell saying I hate to open the stadium with a loss, my reclines to those folks was if you don't thin the Bears will win then stay home! Our crowds have been down since the Belfry Game and that sickens me! I think the Black Bears will be alright I haven't been to tore up because of the losses but I support these kids no matter what!
10-04-2013, 06:55 AM
Well, I was torn up over the losses because I fully expected the Bears to win those games!! Easy mental mistakes got them down early, and then no adjustments at half time, etc. etc. Improvements to THOSE kinds of game errors are what this week off should do for the team, and I'm excited to see the results next week!!!
As far as the number of fans being down, I agree with you 110%! Actually we don't need the fair weather fans; let 'em stay home!! Good riddance!!
