St. Xavier 27 Central 13
#1
Final
#2
Nice showing by Central... don't shovel dirt on them just yet.
#3
Actually closer than i thought it would be. yeah i wouldn't count Central out just yet..
#4
WAY closer than what most thought , this is probably the worst Central team since 1992 (with the exception of the 2003 team, which was the only losing season since 92)(3-7) which lost to StX that year 16-12 , this might be a good omen for the jackets.
Having said that this Etown team seems to be really good & should be a stiff test for the jackets.
#5
Btw how did Etown make this HUGE turnaround so fast, did a lot of soldiers move to the area ? Or did they just build their program back up ?
#6
Central will be very dangerous come playoff time.

Etown got dismantled by South Warren. If they are a stiff test for Central then it means South Warren should be the team to watch out for out west.

"on paper" it looks Like a "stiff test"
I haven't actually saw Etown & don't know the level of their competition. But I know they have a lofty record. But back to my original question , does anybody know how Etown turned it around ? Or are they benefiting from favorable scheduling ?

By looking at their schedule it looks like they are benefiting from favorable scheduling. They haven't really played anyone besides South Warren.

Central played Francis at QB last night?
#12
Cant wait for belfry and central to play another state championship its belfry's year.
#13
Central has a lot of good players but seems to be struggling to find how and where they get their 11 best on the field.

I echo EKU's question. Phillip Francis is a D1 LB. He played RB out of necessity. Is he now playing QB?

It appears that he may have played QB. Central has really struggled offensively, especially at the QB position.
#15
PT is coming. Y'all just don't see it yet. They have the guru back.
#16
From what I've heard PT better be worried about south Warren
#17
Neither PT nor Fort Campbell will be a factor in the post season. McCracken absolutely destroyed Fort Campbell Friday.

Tilghman has two opponents on the field every Friday: itself and the other team.
#18
South Warren is the real deal! Will be playing 5A when realignment occurs. Has two D1 players on Defense, and a team full of seniors with speed. Their Oline isn't dominant, but they're loaded at every other position.

I can't speak specifically about any other game, but they they overwhelmed Etown's offense. Etown defense held their own, especially considering SW had the short field all night. Etown starts 5-6 sophomores on offense and wasn't ready for South Warren's speed.

Central is still King until someone from 3A proves otherwise. But the soon to be 5A team from Bowling Green will definitely have a shot this year.
#19
Thanks ! Very informative post .
#20
SW's opponents are 15-21. They have feasted on low hanging fruit.
#21
^^^^^^^lol !
#22
Central's Opponents are 16-17, Etown's 14-19, Wayne County's 14-19, Corbin's 7-20

Not sure who you're a fan of. But when someone has a single 0-whatever team on their schedule it makes them look lopsided. Don't know if I would call that low hanging fruit. But just quoting their opponents records doesn't give the clearest picture.
#23
Here is another way to put it. SW is having a good year and congrats. It has played a weak schedule and thusly are looking like ballers now. It doesn't matter if you should be playing in 5A or 1A. When I look at a Bowling Green area 3A team schedule and see the toughest opponent is a 1A school, someone has put together a smoothie. Some good teams right down the road from y'all are curiously not scheduled. If you cant put Russellville away convincingly (and you could because they play Mayfield the week prior but then SW will have played competitive Monroe) then you might consider tempering your expectations.

There are some 3A teams beaten and bloodied from competing against the top teams in the state every week. Just because you haven't heard much of them doesn't mean they have gone away. One or two of them may have something to say about how all this turns out.
#24
Wayne will be a big factor in who comes out of the west.
#25
Wayne Co. will have a lot to say in 3A period.
#26
PT will be ready. Tica you need to have more faith. I was right there with you a few weeks ago. But here is what I see now. They gave McCracken one heck of a game and in fact beat them. McCracken will be in top 10 in 6a. They gave Graves one heck of a game, losing in overtime. Graves is a top 10 team in 5a. They gave Mayfield one heck of a game. We are #1 in 1a right now. They played a very tough out of state team real well. There isn't too many 3a teams from around here that would have tried that. They also played the best team in 4a very well, Highlands of course. That was all done before they got the man back. I am telling you, he had more to do with the turn around on 2009 than did Randy. Randy should be buying that man's lunch every day. Randy needs to learn a lesson that a famous Mayfield coach from years ago did. That famous coach was once asked how he did what he did here. He told the reporter that it was easy. He said he surrounded himself with the best assistants he could get and he let them do the coaching. That is what Randy should do with the man. Then next year, he should find one to run the offense and he will be set.
#27
So you have mentioned it twice in riddles.

Who is "the guru" or "the man" that Tilghman has back?
#28
I am buying into Tilghman. Record may be poor but they have played a murderers row. I like them to be right there in the west.
#29
The man is Larry Shanks, the architect of Tilghman defenses in 09, 10, and 11.
Retired after the 2011 season. Came back out of retirement in Tennessee last week to try turn things around and save the season at PT. Will be working with the defense and also some o-line blocking schemes. We shall see.

Can't wait for 3A state championship.
