Not a pretty win, but Pirates grind out a convincing win over a pretty solid Gallia Academy squad.
Gallia's Offense hurt Belfry, specifically their elusive QB. Belfry missed countless tackles and gave up contain frequently.
Belfry entered the game down starting FB Austin Hatfield.. by the end of the game HB Justin Johnson, HB X Willis, and WR Keaton Taylor all joined him on the sideline
Belfry entered the game without a starting Safety...their other Safety was ejected in the Final Minutes after an onsides kick recovery scrum.
Beneficial game for Belfry as Gallia had some nice players and did some things Belfry wont experience until late in the playoffs.

Pirates will have an uphill battle travelling all the way to Knoxville against a very good team when they appear to be entering banged up and short handed
CAK is the defending TN 3A State Champ and by far the best team Belfry will have seen so far.

CAK will be considerably better than Gallia. A short handed Belfry will be hard pressed to leave Knoxville with a win next Friday.
Still, solid win here IMO.

As always, Congratulations Belfry and Coach Philip Haywood and his assistants, and all the Belfry players, Moms, Dads and Fans! And who could forget the cheerleaders?

Congrats Belfry upholding Kentucky

Assuming Edwards doesn't come back next week, you expect Catron will start at one safety. Who is likely to play Cam Johnson's safety?
Hope Edwards and Hatfield get back. Also wishing all the other pirates a speedy recovery.

According to MapQuest, that is a 4 hour haul to Knoxville from Belfry. Why the long haul to Knoxville for the Pirates?

try to beef up there schedule, theres not alot of good schools around there area that will play them..that game will porbally be the tuffest game of the year including title game if they make it..

The tackling was horrid tonight, Belfry has to get tougher on the defensive side of the ball. If this team has a weakness it is the defense.. they don't play with enough emotion.

Both would be a good game for Belfry and not a real bad drive to either school.

EKUAlum05, Starting DE Austin Hall also was hurt in this one. I haven't heard anything about the status of any of these guys. I heard rumblings that X Willis may be an ACL, but that's just that... rumors. Justin Johnson never left the stadium on Friday to see a doctor or anything and his Dad remained in the bleachers. Keaton came down hard on a jump ball (that he caught for a TD) and I would say his head whipped into the ground. Hopefully he's alright!
The thing that sucks about X Willis going down is at one point, Keaton played safety with X and Sani at corner which I thought was solid. If X is out, that's out the door next week.

Solid win, but yet this team still has plenty of unanswered questions.
The main one being why a senior, supposed to be a leader, gets in a scrum and gets thrown out up by 20 with 2 minutes left. Stuff like that is completely inexcusable. Gotta have priorities and set a good example for the younger kids that look up to you.
I don't know how the trip to Tennessee will end up but I'm sure we'll find out who's in and who's out from what seemed like the countless injuries tonight...

Agreed!! Disappointing to say the least. No excuse to make such a stupid move. Not only cost himself playing time, but putting his team in a bad situation with all the injuries already sustained. I assume the trip to Tenn. is going to end how everyone pretty much thinks that it will. I'm afraid. Just hope no more injuries creep up on us. The game means nothing, but you play them to win them. Disappointed in the Defense all together IMO. One player, the QB, ran all over and around them.

Almost certain the khsaa made a disqualification this year a 3 game suspension instead of a 1 game suspension. If I'm right cam Johnson will miss the pike central and Lawrence games as well

Such a costly victory in this game. If you assume JJ, Willis, Taylor, Edwards, Hatfield, C. Johnson, and Hall are all out for this game, that leaves a very limited Belfry team.
One would assume that would leave you with Fletcher, Carr, and Dari in the backfield - with no depth.
Defensively, TJ Dotson at one end and Fletcher at the other? Sani and Catron in the secondary and then who? Reed Williamson and Bostic? I like those kids and I know they will give it their all. But wow, what a bad time to have so many pass coverage guys go down.
Any chance Ray Horton gets some snaps at FB and Fletcher takes some snaps at HB?

I would think Hatfield returns and Taylor was ok. I haven't heard any definite word on Edwards but he was in street clothes for the game and didn't look too bad. X would be my biggest worry because it looked like a knee injury...No official word yet. Johnson was a hurt shoulder , but no official word , but one coach said not too bad. No word on Hall. I wonder if Taylor would play some HB if needed? He was good there last year. Secondary will be Sani and either Taylor or Williamson at the other corner or could they move Taylor to safety with Catron? Definitely not a great time to have this many injuries and a suspension, but an opportunity for some other kids to step up.

I'll wait for the official word but sounds bad for Willis. His brother suffered the same fate.
What is the status on Jacob Fransisco? He went out with that shoulder injury(?) first game and I have heard nothing of his return. Anyone know when we can expect him back?
I wasn't there last night but all season long the defense has given up lots of yardage. I know ya can't be a juggernaut every year. If Belfry is gonna bring home a trophy, they will need to score some points late in the season.

Yep the D is the biggest question. A lot of good players, but just not consistently making plays. The linebackers are not good enough right now and overrunning plays is a problem. I think the Gallia game was a good eye opener for what the D needs to improve on. This CAK game will be another one.

Props to the Belfry offensive front for controlling the LOS.

So who got the suspension, C. Johnson?

Reason being, he kept playing for a while so I assumed it wasn't too serious.
I would take ZERO chances with Justin Johnson, if he isn't 100% he needs to sit until he is. Hopefully Edwards will be back, that would help a lot in the secondary, as Taylor could play the CB and Catron the S.
What type of team is CAK, spread? Might make a difference in how we plug the puzzle pieces together.
I hate that CJ got ejected, not so much for this game but he will miss the Lawrence Co game too, right? Hopefully this will be a lesson learned, and I'm sure it will be adequately driven home by the coaching staff.
Thoughts are with X Willis, hope his injury wasn't as bad as it sounds like it might have been. That kid has been doing a fantastic job.

Here is another random thought, we need to figure out what is causing so many helmets to pop off during games and fix it. I can think of at least 4 or 5 plays that guys had to sit out because of it.
10-05-2013, 09:58 AM
I do think there are some offensive players who make those holes possible for putting the points on the board who get over looked a lot. Some of those guys can step up and play on the defensive side of the ball as well and prove Belfry's depth. Just my opinion.

What did he do to get ejected?
