Russell County @ Clay County 10-18-2013
#1
The lakers travel to Manchester to play the tigers.

Thoughts?

Lakers must remain focused and continue to work hard and study ares where they need to improve. They are a quality team but the boys have to maintain intensity and focus if they are not to be upset. Clay will make a game of it but Russell will pull it out in second half again

We are in the part of the season when every game starts to mean a little more. A win at Clay would assure the Lakers of hosting a first round game in the playoffs. Having watched some film of Clay County, I feel that if the Lakers come out focused they should be able to come away from Manchester with another big win. One area I would like to see us approve on is pass defense. Pulaski killed us through the air and the only real success anyone has had on us offensively is via the pass. We need to develop more pass rush for when we run into teams that like to sling it around in the playoffs. With that being said we are very good at making a play on the ball and have to be one of the leading teams in the state again in interceptions. However, defending the pass should not be an issue the next couple weeks as we finish up district play in the ole ground and pound 4A District 6.

Yeah dosent help with one of our starting corners quiting the team also ,"selfish move",however I still think we win the district and maybe surprise Boyle or Catholic in the playoffs ,then who knows what happens .Hope we get off to a quiker start all the way around against Clay.

I hope the boys are more interested in this game than the members of BGR! This thread was buried on the second page. This is an important game because it is the next one. It is also a district game. I hope the boys stay focused on the task at hand and worry about back to back championships next week. I've got a feeling next week's thread will not be buried!

I hope there isn't anything interesting in this game. If the Lakers go take care of business, then this should be a running clock. If they let the crowd, the chippiness, etc. get to them this could be much closer. I just don't want to see any players baited into something that might cost them the next couple of games.

I guess the most interesting thing in this game will be to see how well the Laker defense contains Carr. This is likely the best true running back we've seen to date. I also want to see more work on the passing game, even if it's little screen passes, bubbles and such. We definitely need to utilize Nick Coffey a bit more on offense. He could be a great 3rd and medium to long receiver.

I know who cares what we think, but I would also like to sees Smiddy in at quarterback more. I have nothing against Ellis, but I feel Ellis on the edge gives the defense more to be concerned about which opens up the inside more. Smiddy is a very good quarterback that just needs more reps and confidence. Seems to me when Ellis is on the edge that things open up more for us. Smiddy had a really good drive in that game vs. Rock.

I think russell co way too much for Clay Co. As far as pass defense goes, you won't see a better passing team that the maroons have at Pulaski. Hall is a special kid and lots of weapons across the board for a defense to try and defend. If you shut one down he has 3 more just about as good that he can throw too.

As for Smiddy playing QB, I agree. I think for this team to beat a Boyle Co or Lexington Catholic they will have to have Ellis moving around the field. Games like these are where Smiddy needs the experience.
