10/25/13 Johnson Central @ ASHLAND

Ashland 3
JC 0
On a 65 yd field goal as time runs out.
If my prediction comes to pass I expect to be named king of all predictors.

If this happens, you gotta start sharing your lottery numbers with me.

I do appreciate a stand up Ashland fan. Just in case none of the rest of Eagle Nation says so.

We've asked plenty bigger. They ran and hid.

Ok
U better hope your kitty's like a physical game because the eagles going to bring the smack down on the Tom cats . If u don't think so ask Rowan county if they didn't take some big hits I say they had long bus ride home .
But I give Rowan credit they did not give up .
I don't understand the running clock talk. That didn't even happen the year Ashland was 2-10 JC should win. I'm guessing by about 3 td's. but I don't see a running clock in this one.
Other than playing Paintsville in the Apple Bowl, I really can't remember JC having a football rival.

I'm glad the JC vs. Ashland game has turned out to be a "rivalry" game.
We've had big wins..... We've had close wins.
They've had big wins.... They've had close wins.

And the past 3-4 seasons, the game has been for the district title.

If that's not a rivalry game.... I don't know what is.
JC by 30pts! So I say a running clock 2nd half. I would be satisfied If JC only wins by 1 if it is a injury free game. Just remember these are young men on both teams giving the best they can for the fans and schools.
Kitty's Game time only 134 hours away.

The running click rule used to take a larger lead for it to kick im. Now, a 36-point lead is all it takes to start the running clock. I can easily see JC with a 36-point lead at some point in this game. Maybe not in the first half, but who knows...it could happen.
Ashland will come ready to play. I look for JC to win,and do so convincingly but if the players buy into all this running clock talk, they could easily be in for a fight. Let's not forget how we discredited Ashland last year with the comparisons of the ironton matchups, then Ashland turns around and takes JC to the wire. With this game at Putnam Ashland will have a decisive advantage coming in. Without a doubt the most anticipated matchup of the year for me. Gotta love the rivalry this game has grown into.
I remember the 2002 season.....
JC's coach, Bill Tom Ross, made the Ashland game seem like we were playing the '72 Dolphins in the Super Bowl.......

We went down on Friday night, the city of Ashland had a water main break. So we had to reschedule for Saturday night..... we went down and Ashland beat us 43-0. It was embarrassing and ruined the rest of our season. We went 2-8 in 2002.
To my knowledge ( someone else may know different) the only running clock Ashland has ever had put on them was last year at FTH but Ashland gave them all they wanted for a half and should have had the lead!! Anyway J.C if they are as good as everyone thinks should win but their won't be any running clock!!!
^^^^^^^^^
I would say this crap about 36 points will be changed.
Ashland gave up 37, 34, and 35 points to Newport Central Catholic, Raceland, and GW and then were held to only 7 points by Russell's defense. Johnson Central may not put a running clock on Ashland, but anybody who dismisses that possibility is just fooling themselves. The Tomcats will need to play one of their best games of the season to avoid a running clock next week.

Some of the worst coaching performances that I have ever witnessed were turned in by JC coaches during the three years between the tenures of Bill Musick and Jim Matney. Those of you who played during those seasons deserved much better.

Bruce Humphrey (2001)
Bill Tom Ross (2002 & 2003)

In 2001, there were several starters from the team that went 11-1 returning. But ended up going 2-8.

The 2002 & 2003 seasons were just awful (3-17). The freshmen on the the 2003 team were seniors on the 13-1 team.

And what's even worse than that..... these teams either won or was runners-up in the conference when they were in middle school.

I agree. As long as the Eagles keep focused on the task, I could see a running clock. It will be important for JC to jump out early on Ashland for the longer you allow a rival, an underman rival at that, to hang around the tougher it will be to put them away. The past few seasons Ashland has had decent success in stopping the rushing attack of JC. I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the JC passing attack in this game compared to other games this season.
Nobody can't ever say that Johnson Central didn't have a great feeder program.

But the biggest difference now is that the majority of the kids are staying in the county school system. Some kids are going else where for playing time because they don't wanna wait a year or two behind some better players.

As a matter of fact.

Last season, the Johnson County Middle School 7th grade won the state championship.

This season, both the JCMS 7th & 8th grade teams won today and are in the regional finals next Saturday at Golden Eagle field.
Correct me if I'm wrong but was Bill Tom Ross considered to be a very good coaching hire, that is until he suddenly became ill? Didn't he have some very good teams at Boyd Co. and at Raceland?
I hope the tomcat players and coaches see all this running clock stuff

He coached that 2000 Boyd County team we beat in the final minute to win the district title.

That's what I was thinking....Seems like he had a stellar program at Raceland prior to that too.

It's just a shame that he had that stroke right before he started his first practice.
Jc wins big. As far as a running clock? Very possible all depends if ashland shows up or not. Jc will be there, the players are hungry and determined to win district championship

I agree, but I also think that it is a shame that it took two full years to replace him as the head coach.

Coach Ross was a good hire. The stroke really changed him as it would most. He had many interesting and competitive off season competitions and ideas. Definitely a great football mind.
If I remember correctly, he was unable to coach from the sideline after the stroke and was pretty much confined to a golf cart during practices.
I got to see Johnson Central play against Harlan County and I was very impressed. If I were a JC fan the only thing I would worry about is the fact that IMO they have not played a very good team who is capable of beating them yet. This has been a very funny year in the Mountains and teams who were good last year are bad or down this year. A lot of people were thinking they had a hard schedule at the start of the season but it has not turned out that way. I don't think that Ashland is good enough this year to be capable of beating JC either and I think your best game will be with Belfry and I don't think they can beat you either IMO.

Johnson Central- 42

Ashland-17
I think that this will be another win for the Golden Eagles!!!

Ross was very good Coach at Raceland as would say he started or if not maintained the
strong tradition of the rams.
