Now we can officially say the Rams not Ams, are contenders. I listened to the game and was excited for the underdogs.

I hope you're right. However, I have seen too many disappointments through the years to call them contenders.

RAMS step up tonight.

Tonight was a big win but I'm still not going to call them contenders just yet. There is still alot of football left this season and the playoffs in the east will not be easy. The Rams should be proud of their win tonight but tonight's game should not be considered to be the highlight of the season and lose sight of winning even bigger games down the road.

Underdogs? with all respect, how can that be reasoned?

I would say they were considered underdogs esp by reading all the posts fans were putting up calling them the Ams instead of Rams. Not to mention they were rated lower in the khsaa polls, lit ratings and bgr polls.

Raceland under achieved last year but this year I think they are right where they need to be.

Raceland played a complete 4 quarters. Carson Christian looked good tonight. Ran well between the tackles. Snyder ran hard, Beech ran well, Messer was all over the place, Elkins had a few big first down runs. This Raceland team that won tonight is the team we all thought they'd be all season.

that is W-L based polls, Fairview hadn't played the schedule as Raceland. I called it a 2-3 td win, I figured both would score more. Both teams at 100%, I would say Fairview would have been a slight favorite, maybe a toss up. It would be a mistake to puff out chests and think we beat a superior team tonight.
We had a good win, Messer makes the most out of any position he plays.

Messer is one good football player. That throw on 4 and 1 to the corner was perfect. Carson Christian added a nice chage of pace back between the tackles. The Rams were extremely consistent tonight.

I think holding Fairview to 14 points is quite an accomplishment, more so than the margin of victory. Fairview has given up some points this year, so, Raceland scoring in the 30s didn't surprise me. Turnovers seemed to be Fairview's downfall in this one, but, earlier in the year, I felt Hazard outplayed Fairview, but, turnovers killed them in that one. Funny how things like that seem to balance out over the course of a season. I think Raceland needed to win this game worse than Fairview did, having lost a couple of close games earlier in the year. Should be a big confidence booster for them. Fairview will look at it like if we play again, chances are, we won't shoot ourselves in the foot as much. I'd still call it a tossup, should they meet again in the playoffs, but, with Pikeville in the region, no guarantees they'll get that opportunity. IMO, 3 pretty even teams.
10-19-2013, 10:47 AM
First vor, the Lit ratings are not a win-loss rating. Second, the Rams had some injuries including one of their top backs. Lastly, if the play again without turnovers being one sided, the Rams should be 10 points better.

If it is truly the year of the pretender 64, then Wburg will prevail. That has been the biggest pretender of the year so far.

I'm not from Raceland but here's my question.
Where are all of the sky is falling so called fans that were talking crap about the Raceland coaching staff not being able to win a big game. I guess they are now going to claim that they were big favorites in this game therefore this don't count as a big game.

I had Raceland a 2-3 tds favorite, this was not a "good" Fairview team. If anyone wants to validate the staff as winning a big game.....I wouldn't puff out the chest on this one.
It was a win in a game they clearly should have won as a favorite as they did.

They showed a lot of potential of being a contender

The loss at Pikeville last season after blowing them out earlier in the season was 100% on the staff. This cannot be denied.
Raceland should have a cakewalk to Bowling Green, it is on the staff so we sahll see.

Lol. The staff was not on the field playing in the Pikeville loss last year. I'd say there was equal shares of responsibility to go around.

So, what your saying is, Pikeville improving since the early season loss as the season progressed, had no bearing on the win?

I am right here an I still don't believe this team will go to Bowling Green. Just because they won one game against a team that had a lot of key players out doesn't make them title contenders. They still have a hard playoff road ahead of them and if you look at Raceland's overall playoff record then you will see that one game in the regular season doesn't mean a thing. Friday night was a big win but it should not be considered season defining. Even if Raceland does make it to Bowling Green, I look for the outcome to be similar to last season's title game. I have said this a million times, just because you make it to the championship on an relatively easy playoff road doesn't mean you belong there and it does not necessarily make you the second best team in the state as last season clearly showed. Most years the real championship game will be between Mayfield and Beechwood in the Western Semi's barring a fluke win from a team in the east.

Go ahead and let's give the Championship trophy to the soggy bottom Ams. I'm tickled that you Ams have lured away an Ashland football alumni and avid follower to the land of the Ams.

Guys I would not say that Fairview did not deserve to be there last year. That is pretty demeaning. They just did not match up well against the Cards. They appeared to panic a little when they got down and then they made mistakes to compound it. Do not take anything away from that team. They were big and fast. We have been there and lost 9 times and I think we had some really great teams lose there. I think that is a slap to those kids to say they didn't belong. How many other teams in this state can say they made a trip to state in Ky last year.

I have often times questioned play calling. But when i hae felt that theyhave done well, i have also given them credit. The play calling against fairview, outside of going running off tackle to the right on 3rd and i think 7, which resulted in a bad angle for Pennington. But I understand the all have reasons for what the plays they call and they probably see something that I cant from where I am. So, I never claimed the sky to be falling in Raceland, just felt like a few times the play calling was bad in previous games. Especially at Ashland
Now, I will say this: sometimes play calling is depicted by what your teams intensity is. Some plays are hard to run when your team is seemingl going theough the motions. The Rams have turned over a new leaf. Atleast imo. We will see what kind of mentalty they have coming out this week. Its ver possible to have a hangover after the "hard district win" over Fairview. Paintsville is no cake team, make no mistake about it. But I think Raceland comes out strong. In some ways this is just a big of a statement game as last week. Good teams hang over, Contenders keep coming and get stronger and stronger. I think the Tams will do just that.

Hey Clint, missed you Friday night. But I guess it was a little bit warmer where you were at. Maybe next time around you might actually back up what you say, I know your listeners would love to see that for sure. I paid $3.00 for a Gatorade down there by the end zone but it was worth it. Yeah, I am a fan of the Rams now for sure.
