Breaking News!!!
FBALL Wrote:Bite your tongue man!

I have to much fun messing with the Ams . We can't consolidate.

Kids are moving off to find work, go to college and build lives elsewhere. Sad times but if this area was hit by another biggie like AK or another large employer shutting down the feasibility of operating a small district would become impossible.

The argument will be the name: Raceland-Russell HS Rams :biglmao:

Face it man in 20 years you'll either be dead or to old to care about that merger.

I have to agree with the bolded part above.. I have one former Russell player (06 graduate) that moved away to college and never came back. I have a second one (13 graduate) at the same college and i doubt he will come back to this area either.
rumor that McPeek resigned? no kidding and others are retiring or being moved around within district. A board meeting on Monday all rumors anyone else hearing anything? Fairview Football couldn't hire Nick Saban and win with what will be left
Whats the latest?

Unfortunate but I couldn't blame the kids. Better opportunities and face it, more to offer in regards to raising a family. Most all of them miss it though, there is nothing better than a small community.

Now, are you ok if we ever consolidate the new school being the Raceland-Russell HS Rams?

Oh God no!

It would have to be something neutral with no current names, mascots or colors involved or there would be fist fights from Wheeler Hill to Pond Run to Jane Hill Road. :redboxer:

I'm to old to really care now but it's just fun arguing with them.

When I asked that question last year, BlackCatFan made fun of me!!!

Heck!! It's been like that since I have been on here and I have been on here for 4 years! Like you said, it's an excepted fact at this point. BGR has it's own time zone!Confusednicker:

LOSERS QUIT WHEN THEY'RE TIRED, WINNERS QUIT WHEN THEY HAVE WON
If Raceland and Russell were to consulidate i believe they would become 4-5a. Id say u could name then the South Greenup County Step Brothers. Week 1s game booklet titled
"We may hate eachother, but give us a common enemy and your finished".

Tbh, it would make for some great football teams.
:biglmao:We could teach them how to pass and catch and they could teach us how to,well, pass a test
Hopefully Cody doesn't suffer from whatever type of fallout there is from this!

'Difficult week' at Fairview

Players rally around one another, coach; Eagles win amid KHSAA investigation

Aaron Snyder The Independent

WESTWOOD — After finishing off a 49-14 victory over Nicholas County, Fairview’s players gathered at their usual spot around the flagpole for a postgame huddle and prayer.

As head coach Nathan McPeek made his way to the circle, the group collectively chanted, “Coach McPeek! Coach McPeek! Coach McPeek!”

It’s been a difficult few days at Fairview, according to players, as rumors and speculation have swirled around the program. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association confirmed this week that there is an investigation involving the potential eligibility of a student-athlete at the school.

School officials said they are currently awaiting a ruling by the KHSAA and, until then, can’t comment on the matter.

What is certain is that McPeek remains the head coach, at least through the end of the season. Garry McPeek has resigned as principal and athletic director and has been reassigned to Fairview Elementary, where he is now a physical education teacher. He is no longer an assistant coach. Eric Hale is the acting high school principal.

Nathan McPeek addressed his players about the situation during the school day Friday. While most specific details aren’t being divulged, McPeek did talk some about what was said during the mid-morning meeting.

“I just told that I love them, told them the truth,” McPeek said. “I told them that it’s a bad situation but the truth will eventually come out.

“We’re going to continue to fight (on the field), assuming they don’t ban us from postseason play,” he said. “And I don’t think what has occurred warrants that (penalty).”

To express unity, the majority of Eagles took the “F” decals off the sides of their helmets, leaving solid black headwear. On the back of each helmet was a piece of tape with “61 brothers” etched onto it. Originally, there were 68 players on the roster, but it has diminished by seven over the course of the season, due to a few freshmen quitting and injuries, according to McPeek. He said 61 dressed on Friday.

“We wanted to prove that we were coming out for our team,” said right tackle Anthony Roark, one of 13 seniors recognized on Senior Night. “Everybody on the team has each other’s backs.”

“We wanted to make a statement,” said sophomore quarterback Alex Roy, “that we play for our team, our community ... the name on our chest. It’s been a difficult week.”

McPeek said he didn’t condone the helmet-altering act, and he realizes it could be taken a different way than the players intended.

“It wasn’t a disrespectful thing in their eyes,” said the sixth-year head coach. “They just wanted to play for each other, wanted to band together as a family. It was a sign of unity.

“It wasn’t something I suggested,” he made clear. “After I talked to them this morning, they were angry at some of the things that have occurred. I’m ultimately the head coach, and they still know we represent the program, the school and everybody involved. But they’re also angry, and they had to have some type of release.”

McPeek said he had hoped to replenish the helmets with F’s, but they didn’t have sufficient supply to do so.

Senior kicker Zac Christensen chose to keep an F on one side. He said he felt like it was the right thing to do.

“Because I played for the future and past Eagles,” Christensen said. “And for the little ones, because they look up to us. Even past players look up to us.”

While the crowd wasn’t large, by any means, a good deal of fans showed up in support of the team. Several fans lined up with encouraging signs displayed as the team rolled into Fairview Stadium on the school bus from the elementary school.

“I can’t tell you how many people have come up to me in support,” McPeek said. “It means a lot to me, my family and this program.”

Fairview (8-1) suffered its first regular season loss since 2010 last weekend against Raceland.

McPeek said he was proud of his kids for bouncing back from that and blocking out the noise surrounding them.

“What a great job by the kids,” he said. “You can’t ask for much better than that.”

Armonde Yetts rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns, Tanner Dolen carried six times for 109 yards and a score and Roy was 4 of 4 passing with 134 yards and three touchdowns. Blake Smith, Fred Hightower and Dolen accounted for the TD receptions.

“Our line was awesome,” Roy said.

Jalen Thomas wiggled and danced his way to the end zone on a 23-yard TD rush in the third quarter to cap the scoring.

Running back Kurtlen Brown missed the game with a high ankle sprain.

Nicholas County fell to 2-7.

Fairview will hold a school board meeting on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the board office. More details on the current state of Fairview athletics and Eagles football are expected to surface then
I read the article and find McPeek's comments to be sickening. First of all this guys keeps talking about the proof and yet he's the same guy who was quoted Monday as saying that the reason the kid in question wasn't playing was due to a violation of team rules. Basically throwing the kid under the bus.

Secondly, the entire rally the kids around a bunch of cheating adults is very disturbing.
McPeek = Class
There are lots of rumors and gossip circulating concerning the Millseat Eagles. We need to wait for the alleged facts to come out before making any real conclusions. Sooner or later, KHSAA will issue its findings. Some of its findings will be factual and some will be circumstantial conclusions which, in reality, won't be factual but will suit the investigator(s).

Rumors of misconduct in Westwood are numerous. The one ineligible player may well just be the tip of the iceberg. Of course, KHSAA may never find an iceberg.

In my mind, questions that need answering, but may never see the light of day:
1. Just how high in the administration does the problem go?
2. Is it true that one of Fairview's "neighbors" made the complaint/ report to KHSAA that started the whole process?
3. Since KHSAA expects schools to "self report" problems, will Fairview be punished because it did not do so.
4. Is the rumor true that Fairview, due to shrinking academic success often attributed to the emphasis on football, now initiating the process of "teaching the test" so as to better its academic position?
5. How will local schools, particularly the one which reportedly turned Fairview in and has a record of being successful in "gleaning" refugees, go about "attracting" athletes who may abandon Fairview?
6. Will all of this dry up and become much ado about nothing?
I wonder if the school board will take q and a or just say what they want and be done with it... Will any disgruntled parents speak up finally or just stat in the back of the room....

1. Music will "retire" as a result.
2. Yes and Fairview made it easy for them. The took an Ashland transfer and had him repeat his junior year and then played him. Stupid, Arrogant or both?
3. Fairview did self report after the cat was out of the bag. The sanction that have been mentioned are the ones being recommended by Fairview.
4. Facts are their test scores are down 30% and they spent upwards of $150k on football last year alone.
5. I'm sure they would as will all others
6. Not a chance, 0%.
Please don't tell me Ashland is the one who reported this kid.
I've been under the impression that Fairview self reported the ineligibility.
tomcatfan722000 Wrote:Please don't tell me Ashland is the one who reported this kid.

Yep
There is no way in hell if I was a football player at my school I would take the letter off my helmet. Whoever the player or players that came up with this is not a leader at all.
tomcatfan722000 Wrote:Please don't tell me Ashland is the one who reported this kid.

Not sure anyone reported them to the KHSAA since Fairview has self reported.
I agree on the helmet sticker! Taking the "F" off the helmet to me shows the ME factor in this program the last 5-6 years. I am a grad from there and there is NO way I would let anybody take it off when I played! Coach would have kicked us out of the locker room for that! Nate said they were going through tough times, I agree with that but everybody on that team knows what the deal is! The Homegrown kids have to suck it up and deal WITH IT OR HIT THE ROAD! You ALL knew it just like everybody in Westwood. So to say leave these poor children alone is a joke! I hate it for the homegrown kids but do not feel sorry for any of the transfers or Coaches, they were so Cocky and deserve everything they get! Get Real and pay the Piper! You ruined a great little school by letting this happen, everybody involved in the football program knew and that's fact. Even Mr. Radio Tommy knew, he has bragged to some of us grads about getting certain studs at Fairview!
I find it odd that Russellpride hasn't stepped forward to defend these allegations.
