Could Mayfield win 3A, 4A, 5A 6A?
#1
It is a given that Mayfield is the best team in 1A and "they" are sure they could beat anyone in 2A...so that said how many classes could they win this season?

3A? Top contenders; Belfry, Central, Wayne Co. and Tilghman...could any of these beat Mayfield?

4A? Top contenders; Highlands, Russell Co., Johnson Central, Boyle and LexCath...how many of these could Mayfield beat? Mayfield is deeper, better conditioned and more disciplined than University Christian team that had their way with Highlands until the above listed shortcoming did them in and Highlands wore them down...could Mayfield hang?

5A? OK I don't think even the strongest Mayfield fans thinks they could win 5A, but are they better that the best of the rest; Pulaski Co., Franklin Co, Anderson Co, Madison Southern?

6A? Beat rising power McCracken, could Mayfields fundamentals carry them at least to runner up in 6A or Semi State against the plethora of undisciplined 6A teams?

Mayfield has not won nothing yet.:HitWall::HitWall: you could pick 3 or 4 other teams in 1A that also could win 2A also like WILLIAMSBURG :insane:

Umm I doubt that. Mayfield might be able to win 2A, but I don't know of any other teams that could.

This is a joke question, isn't it? Mayfield better stick to Class 1A.
#5
No Joke, Mayfield will walk over 1A again this season...this Friday they play the prohibitive favorite in 2A a team they haven't lost to in several years. You guys don't think they could hand with Belfry, Wayne Co or Central in 3A? None of those teams have a much bigger roster if they are in fact bigger...I think Mayfield could win 3A and really only 2-3 teams in 4A they wouldn't be favored against.
#6
Come on man. We may not be able to beat the top team in 2A must less the rest. We would give it our best and keep going on no matter what happened.
No Mayfield fan with half a brain will bite on this.
#7
Mayfield could compete in all classes but I'd say they could win 1a to 3a
#8
This isn't for Mayfield fans, it for fans across the state to ponder on...I'm not a Troll trying to start something...I truely admire the way Mayfield goes about their business each week and I've thought for years they probably could have won up to at least 3A the last several years. Mayfield beat 3A champ PT a few seasons ago, beat 2A runner up last season a lot easier than the champ did. I'm honestly not trying to start anything...maybe this thread would be better after the season.

I think the answer is yes for 2A. Coin flip for 3a. No, to the rest.
#10
I think they would be in the conversation in 1A-3A. As far as odds on favorite to win it all, I am not sure. Would they definetly beat good 3A schools for 5 weeks?
#11
No, no, no and no.
#12
Actually Mayfield was a 2A school until 1993 or 1994 and yes they won titles there, just like they do in 1A.
#13
Belfry and central would roll them in 3A. Highlands JC Boyle and Cov Cath would roll them in 4. We all know what bowling green in 5A would do, though I do think they are better than the other 5A teams. 6A trinity male manual and st X would all be laughers.
#14
Mayfield would be the best team 2A and 3A team. I believe that they will prove part of this statement by beating Caldwell County in a close one next Friday night. Although I do not believe that they would be the best 4A, 5A, or 6A team, I do think however that they could compete with almost any of the top 4A, 5A, or 6A teams, with the exception of Bowling Green. Mayfield is a fundamentally sound team, and their spread offense is difficult to contain. Large part due to the fact that Mayfield has a top 5 offensive line in all of state in my opinion.

Last year, I think they could have won 1a & 2a for sure. Them and Central would have been a great game in 3a and I do think they would have at least made it to that game. Had they beaten them, I think they would have beaten Belfry in the championship. I don't think they would have won 4A, but, all the strong teams were on the east side of the bracket, so, getting to the championship would have been a real possibility. They would have won the 5A district, but, WC would likely have beaten them again in the 2nd round of the playoffs. If they would have been fortunate enough to have gotten thru WC, BG would have beaten them in the region finals. I think they could have competed and possibly beaten Henderson Co to win the district in 6a,but, they would have had a hard time getting past them twice or beating PRP to get out of the region. So, as far as your question, 1a & 2a, yes, very possible on 3a, very unlikely after that, however, outside of Highlands, I think they'd compete pretty well with the rest of 4a and outside of BGreen & JHardin, I think they'd have competed well with the rest of 5A. But, I'm talking last year, not this year.

As for this year, they're going to have a tough time with 1A, even though they're the favorite. I just think the competition level is better this year and that they're not quite as good as last year. I think they'd be a Top 3 or 4 team in 2a, so, winning it in 2A, would be possible, but, certainly no given. Again, I think 2a is stronger at the top this year, especially on the west side, which would mean multiple tough games just to get there. As far as 3a, I think Mayfield would be a Top 4-5 team in that class, so, sure, they'd have a chance and I think Central is down a little from there past few teams, but, at the same time, other teams are better. Belfry would be a tough game, but, the fact they're on the east side and that game would be in the finals, then, yeah, in a 1 game scenario, it's possible. Considering they've already beaten Tilghman and Ft Campbell, you'd think they'd be right there and likely a #1 seed in D1 and I think they'd compete with S.Warren pretty well, so, getting to the semi's wouldn't be out of the question and beating a Wayne, Central or Corbin isn't out of the realm of possibility. Collins would be the biggest challenge in 4a out of the west, but, OBoro wouldn't be any walk in the park, although I do think Mayfield could beat them. No way they beat Highlands in the finals and most likely couldn't handle Boyle, CCath or JC from the east either. BGreen would put a halt to any hopes of getting past the region finals in 5a and I don't think they'd fare well in 6a, maybe winning a game or 2 in the playoffs, at best.

I don't know how well we could do in all the other classes but, I bet if any called coach joe and asked to get on the schedule in the future he would try them. After all, that is how you get better.
#17
1a, 2a and 3a but not past that.
#18
I say they beat Caldwell County 28-14. Go look at the KHSSA record books, they played Danville close in their glory years.
#19
No class can contain Mayfield, not this year or anyother. The only time we ever lose is when we get cheated and that is far to often as everyone is out to cheat us. 6A should count their blessings that we are in 1A

Mayfield was 1-9 vs Danville from 1987-2006. The lone win was in 2002 semis at Danville. Danville won with a blocked extra point in '87 and a GL stand in '89. In 2001 Danville won another tight game at Mayfield in semis. The other 6 wins in '91,'92,2000,2003,2004, and 2006 were not real close. They have a great history in football overall and they have always been well coached. They are the favorite to win Class A this year and that is all that matters. Any other thoughts are kind of irrelevant. ROLL TIDE

MayfieldCardinal, please be careful here. These guys don't know that you are kidding like I do.
#23
They be lucky to win Class A, Bowling Green would beat them by 20+ in Class 5 A, Scott County,Manual,Male and even Trinity would beat them by 17+. I dont want to talk about other classes just be thinkful your in the weakest division class A.
#24
A yes
AA yes
AAA Maybe... I think Mayfield could at the very east beat any 3A team on any given night... stringing together 2 or 3 wins over 3A's best would be tough

AAAA- No
AAAAA- I think they could beat anyone but Bowling Green on any given night
AAAAAA- No
#25
Mayfield is the only reason there is 6 classes. we can't have the same winner every year. What would be the fun in that ? Wake up Dorthy
#26
I really only like to talk about what we could do in 1a. The reason is, this is the only class that we can show proof of. It is also all that we need to win to get one of those gold balls. We still haven't won that yet this year and we got people trying to get ahead of things on that. Anything could happen. There is sickness, injuries, grades, bad days and all of those types of things that could get in the way.

Cardinal, did you notice the senior banners Fri night at the game? I knew we had several seniors, but when is the last time that Mayfield graduated 17 seniors from the football team? We will be young next year. Our young boys better be hitting the weight room as soon as season is over.
#29
A- win 100% chance. russiville is strong at their one demintion. Could hang with some desent teams. Second best of 1a as expected
AA- win 80% chance. Caldwell is strong and I s a little more balanced like the cards they could make a run at any given team beside BG
AAA- win 90% chance.
AAAA- win 65% chance mayfield could beat highlands seen them play they have talent just was not impressed both tomes I watched.
AAAAA- win 1% chance bg would beat us by 21+
AAAAAA win 60% chance.. they prob have the ability to knock off any of these teams.. just remember they beat mccracken so we shall see where they would end up..

1A and 2A, yes.

If you look over the past 5 years, there is no way those Mayfield teams beat Central in 3A, Highlands in 4A, Bowling Green in 5A, and Trinity in 6A.

They just couldnt do it.
Often times, Mayfield will win the weak 1A, and could compete in a weak 2A.
