If you think that Fairview is the only place stuff like this is going on then you are a naive person. I would love to have a list from year to year of players on teams who are not originally from the school they are playing for. I have said many times that I have no problem with a kid who if they are on a bad team and want to play at another school then let em do it. I believe that if a coach and team are doing good things then kids and the parents of kids will take notice and want to come play for that coach and team and I see nothing wrong with this as long as all the rules are followed. The only thing I am against is when coaches physically or verbally contact a kid from another school or even in another state and basically recruit the kid and I would say that very thing goes on all the time all over this state. If the coaches at Fairview are in the wrong then they need to be punished but some people seem to be getting way to much enjoyment of kids being hurt by all of this and that is who will be hurt the most from all of this.
I think we have a lot of people with comments on this thread who don't ever want the KHSAA digging in the dirty little closet of the school they represent and you know who you are.

Kind of like Lawrence County and the kids that "come" over from Tolsia?

I agree. Most schools do it to a certain extent somewhere along the line. Fairview does it..Raceland does it...LC does it right on down the line. I'm sure Russell does it as well. Maybe not in football but probably in other things. (Academic team...etc) I just think Fairview took it to a higher level.

Rally supports McPeeks
Dozens voice opinions about Fairview football situation
Aaron Snyder The Independent
WESTWOOD — Just 24 hours before today’s school board meeting at Fairview, dozens met in the parking lot outside the football stadium to voice their opinions about a situation that has engulfed the community during the past week. The board meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the high school library.
Fairview is under a Kentucky High School Athletic Association investigation that involves the potential eligibility of a student-athlete at the school. A ruling is expected soon, but there is no timetable.
The purpose of Sunday’s gathering was to display support for Nathan McPeek, Fairview’s football coach, and Garry McPeek, the high school’s former principal and athletic director who resigned and was reassigned to the elementary school as a physical education teacher last week.
Charletta Thovson, the mother of junior football player Logan, organized the rally.
Superintendent Bill Musick, who wasn’t present on Sunday, confirmed via text message that Nathan McPeek has resigned as football coach, effective at season’s end.
Neither Nathan nor Garry was present at Sunday’s rally.
Initially, some heated debate and finger-pointing took place among those seeking answers. Talmadge McPeek Jr., Nathan’s father, finally got the attention of the group and read aloud thoughts he had jotted down on paper.
He gave some advice to those who plan to attend the board meeting.
“The first negative comment you have, they’ll escort you out,” Talmadge McPeek said. “You need to state things positively. I don’t know why these decisions were made, but in the end, no decisions are going to be changed.”
Nancy McPeek, Nathan’s mother, and Kendra, Nathan’s sister, were also in attendance.
“I think it went really well,” Nancy McPeek said of the rally. “It’s good to see these supporters for Nathan and Garry.”
Christie Fitchpatrick, mother of senior player Aaron, received cheers and applause for her comments.
“They can take away our wins, but don’t take away our coaches,” said Fitchpatrick, referring to the KHSAA and the school board.
There is speculation Fairview may be stripped of wins by the KHSAA, but that is not confirmed.
Also present Sunday was the student-athlete thought to be in question. After transferring from another school following part of his junior year, he had to repeat his academic junior year at Fairview, starting the following fall. He did not play football at his previous school as a junior, but did at Fairview upon transferring, he said.
Whether or not he was eligible depends on academic requirement credits as outlined in KHSAA bylaws.
He said he was never informed he was ineligible during the past two seasons. He said he quit the team following Fairview’s 30-27 win over Hazard on Sept. 20 because he “wasn’t having fun doing it anymore. I was given the choice to get on the bus to go to Pike County Central if I still wanted to be part of the team, but I chose not to,” the 18-year-old said.
He added this about Nathan McPeek: “He’ll always be my coach. I hope the best for him and his family.”
When asked if this “bad situation,” as Nathan McPeek referred to it on Friday night, could divide the community, Fitchpatrick said she hoped not, but acknowledged the possibility.
“It really could … if we let it,” she said.

i am so confused on how things r being handled. Seems like one minute everyone is on McPeaks side then in the next breath the same people cant stand it. "Rallying behind" the very man they say needs to go. I am lost.

In regaurds to those making statements sbout ofher schools being guilty of bringing other kids from out of district/state, the fairview investigation is sbout a student who was too old to play. As far as i know it had nothing to do with recruting.

It has nothing to do with his age . He is age is legal , it has to do with being not academically eligible

That is probably a self sanction by Fairview. Demanded that he delete his BGR account...No more internet hijinx from the 'old ball coach.

Just read that No. 3 for Fairview has left the team and transferred back to Spring Valley, any truth to this?

Incorrect. He is in his 5th year of high school so he is ineligible for this year. Last year he was repeating a grade and you cannot participate in high school sports while repeating a grade. Therefore, every game he played in last year and this year are in going to be forfeited.
And he certainly isn't off the team due to a violation of team rules as McPeek stated last Monday.

Probably easy for him to transfer back since he never had to move to start with.

I've read on here that a lot of parents and fans want to keep the coaching staff. There has to be guilt. These guys are stepping down without a fight. My question is to all the Fairview faithful is. If the McPeeks were winning a average of 4-5 games a season. Would you still be fighting to keep them?
Question #2. If you have a coach that goes about 4-6 each year. But has the highest integrity. And teaches your kids right from wrong. And is a good football coach. Would you be fighting to keep him on as coach if you thought he was being forced out?

Yea, these people confuse me. They put up no fight when Chad Tackett was forced out and Chad was one of their own, he was blindsided by his termination. I like Chad and respected what he was doing at Fairview.

I'm kind of worried about Russellpride. I'm concerned that he has run off and done harm to himself over all of this.

I agree with what you have stated here , all im saying is the only thinh legal about him is age . His actual age falls within the legal guidelines of the KHSAA .

Chad Tackett is a very good coach , & even classier person . I wish Chad wasnt railroaded out by slime ball Music , & was still our coach . He is happy at Ashland as an asst , Ashland is lucky to have such a quality human being as a teacher , & coach

I was just told earlier this morning by a very reliable source that this issue will not be discussed at tonights board meeting . Hope that is wrong because i want to get to the bottom of this & be done with it

It wont be discussed with the general public. it will be discussed behind closed doors. The board isn't stupid.

UPDATE 10/28/13 @ 2 p.m.
BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Results of an investigation into the eligibly of a student-athlete at Ashland Fairview High School is not on the agenda for the Fairview Independent School District board meeting Monday night.
That investigation has already cost the principal, athletic director and head football coach their jobs
Fairview Superintendent William Music and KHSAA say the eligibility issue involves one athlete at the high school. Neither will say which sport the student participates in.
WSAZ has learned that the investigation involves the football program.
Head Football Coach Nate McPeek tells WSAZ.com he was asked to resign over the weekend and did so, effective at the end of the current season. Music confirms that he did resign.
Music also says Garry McPeek, the high school’s principal and athletic director has also resigned and was reassigned to a teaching position at the elementary school.
Music says Eric Hale has been named interim principal at the high school.
On Friday, results of the investigation by the district, that began last Monday, were turned over to the KHSAA.
A KHSSA spokesperson told WSAZ.com Monday afternoon they do not have timetable on issuing a ruling in the case.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, Music said had not heard from the KHSAA.
The School Board meets at 5:30.
The football team has a record of 8-1 this season.
In October 2012, an eligibility issue involving two football players ended up in Boyd County Circuit Court.
