I'll take a battle tested Central at home.

On paper Wayne not only looks to be the favorite, they would appear to be a fairly strong one at that.
But, Coach Scroggins is a fantastic coach and Central's defense is lights out. As I said in the Bell County thread... the Final Score may be close and Central may not be as dangerous on offense as previous years... but it still requires outscoring Central and their defense to win.
I certainly will not be surprised to see Wayne win.. but at the same time until someone proves their offense is more proficient than Central's defense the Yellowjackets remain the team to beat in 3A.

There will not be much scoring in this game. Central Defense is hard to run on, but if Wayne can pass the ball, they should win.
Wayne 17 Central 7

One big factor is field conditions @ central. Heard is was really sloppy. If it rains more it will still be a one score, low scoring game

Perhaps they could relocate the game to an idle turf field in Louisville.

Go Big Red! Wrote:IMO the Wayne co kids are up for the challenge!!! I don't think belfry wants to see Wayne Co. The way this team is playing they are the favorites to win the state title. They put a running clock on a very good Corbin team last night!! Wayne has a tuff 3 games to win but I don't see them having much trouble with anybody. They have a really good defense and you must score to keep up with Guffey I just don't see central stopping Wayne.
Wayne Co 38
Central 13
Trust me when I say there ain't nobody Belfry don't wanna see. We may take an asskicking but we won't take it scared. Wayne County is REAL good but we ain't bad either, so either way if we're blessed enough to make it again hopefully we're in for a slobber knocker in BG.

i was there and they said the champs are here as well, lol

i dont think anybody in 3a will put up over 24 points on Central, not sure if its been done since they joined 3a,if they have its not been more than a hand ful if that..

Before Wayne starts thinking of Belfry you might want to get past Central and PT...Belfry will be waiting when you get there.
I'm pulling for Wayne but they can make the mistake of thinking this week or next is the state title game.

This thread is about Wayne Co. and Central. In getting back on topic, I expect Wayne Co. to win, something like 21-7 or 21-14. Central's linebackers will cause some problems for Wayne Co. and I look for Guffey to run the ball more, which will cause problems for Central.

I think I may be the first Wayne County fan to post on here, and I ain't going to say anything about a game we may never see (wayne vs belfry). Cards hit on all cylinders like they have all season and they have a chance to knock off the champs. They were two yds from icing the game last year, so it's possible. Make mistakes and fail to match intensity of central and we will be headed home thinking about what might have been.
3A west is loaded with good defenses. Corbin was good, central is always good, south warren is statistically the best and probably the most underrated is wayne county's.

Wayne also plays good D. Maybe not Central good but they are not a team to give up a bunch of points. Their offense will score. Guffey is very good. They have great balance and can run as well as throw.

Central is king till someone knocks them off, and I don't think it will happen here.

Would like to see Wayne County upset Central. Gonna have to bring their A game. Central has played a brutal schedule and they will be ready for Wayne County.
Interesting side discussion: If Wayne wins, and they end up facing Belfry in the state finals, how does that effect the players from Belfry?? You think they get overconfident or do you think it gives them just the right amount of confidence? Do you thnk it even matters?

Stole this from Bourbon/Mason Thread
#1-Paducah Tilghman-(87-54)
#2-Pike Central-(71-54)
#3-Belfry-(70-54)
#4-Central-(60-75)
#5-South Warren-(58-76)
#6-Mason County-(56-76

#8-Wayne County-(48-74)
If there was a team considering SOS and wins you would have to go with Belfry. Who has Wayne County played them that prepared them? I just don't see all the hype about Wayne, when SWarren, Bourbon and Mason all have played as tough of a schedule.

There is no hype. They aren't really that good. They have just been lucky.

I put zero weight in schedules, but for those of you who do Central and Wayne have one common opponent they both hosted: Bell Co.
Wayne Co. 41-6 34-0 at halftime
Central 14-11
It's all apples and oranges and the great thing is this is not the BCS and SOS means squat.

Central 20 - 19 OT.

That was 6 weeks ago for the Bell/Wayne game...Central faced a much improved Bell team. With that said I think Wayne has the better team. Why ? This will be a Defensive Juggernaut of a game with both Defense setting the pace. I believe both D's to be equal. Here's the difference I think Wayne co is better offensively lead by Guffey and the pass. If you know anything about football and these two teams you know this will not be a high scoring affair. Wayne 14-0

Central is still the 3 time defending state champs, they win this close at home.

You can't judge a strength of schedule by strictly the opponents won/loss record.
11-18-2013, 10:27 AM
So Belfry and Central would of been better off scheduling weaker?
11-18-2013, 10:51 AM
You can deduct 7-14 points from Wayne because game will be at Central. Wayne will not get some calls, such as pass interference, or roughing the QB, they would get at their place. At Central, they will get called for holding when they cannot move Central's D out of the way or try to protect Guffey against Phillip Francis & Co.
Either team is perfectly capable of winning this game. Three td's or under, I am predicting a nail biter, very likely OT, with another heartbreaking loss for Wayne.
If Wayne puts up four or more td's, they will win 28-24.

Francis does not play much defense at all. He is the major offensive weapon now. #5 is far and away Central's best player period. He is a stud.
For Central to win they will have to score atleast 2 TD's on defense, which for them is really possible.
