Somerset @ Prestonsburg 11/22
#61
would a moderator please add a poll???
#62
Is there really a need for a poll? Based on comments from Somerset fans, do we even need a game? I vote we just let the boys settle this on the field. Prestonsburg has come further than anyone ever expected this season and I for one am very proud of those boys. They may not run a 4.4 forty but they have more heart and drive than any team I've seen this season. I wish both teams much luck Friday night and pray for a safe game.

I'll second that !!

The forecast for Friday calls for wind and rain. The Blackcats contained Danville's running game in those conditions last Friday. And statistically speaking, the Admirals had the strongest run game in District 7 this year.

If Prestonsburg's defense starts Friday the way it finished last Friday rather than a "lets see what they do and then adjust" kind of start, Prestonsburg will be fine.

Prestonsburg's offense is no mystery - and at this point it shouldn't be. It'll be Frasure off-tackle, Jarrell sprinting in behind Frasure and running outside, and the occasional rollout pass play. Inside, outside, downfield...on and on.

Looking forward to Friday !!

And according to Pburg fans, Somerset is finished.. It's the same with both fan bases. Everyone is just rooting for their team.

I don't recall anyone from p-burg saying that Somerset is finished. Somerset is obviously a good team or they wouldn't be playing Friday night. There's a fine line between pullung for your team and being down right obnoxious. I think a few you crossed it several post ago.

I think you're just trying to find something to be offended by or desperately hoping a Somerset fan will provide you with some bulletin board material. Go back through and read the actual Somerset fan's posts. To a person they all expect it to be a great game. Sure, some (me included) are excited to see the Jumpers play with all of their skill position players together for only the second time all season, but no Somerset fan has predicted a blowout or discounted Prestonsburg. If you're still playing in the 3rd round of the playoffs you're obviously doing something right. Outside of picking their team to win, and I can't think of a whole lot of fans that wouldn't, I don't see any Somerset fan putting down Prestonsburg at all.

I know that the team respects Prestonsburg and I haven't seen any posts from any Somerset fans disrespecting them either. Sorry, but you'll have to find your bulletin board material somewhere else.
#69
No bullitin board material needed nor am I offended by anything posted. Actually, some of the posts are laughable.

How did Pburg lose to Powell? Saw Powell play Bourbon and they got destroyed. Powell was not very good. Saw somerset early in the year and they looked like a decent team. Somerset 32-20.

I wasn't at the game so I can't say, but Prestonsburg turned their season around in the second half of the Betsy Layne game. Since then, they've been playing well beyond expectation.

A lot of people, including myself thought this team would lose to Betsy Layne and be done after the first round of the playoffs. However, this team and coaching staff proved a lot of people wrong, including myself.

Seems like a few people are attempting to stir the pot in this thread. Don't find it necessary. Both programs are very respectable and bulletin board material isn't needed for this game. Two great programs going head-to-head for a regional championship. Can't ask for much more to get you pumped up than that.
#72
Briars may have all their jumpers, but only one can touch the ball at one time.

Two very good teams, great Regional matchup, and a signature win for either team.
#73
Me thinks some of you are incorrectly mistaking excitement for our own team as disrespect for yours. There's not a somerset fan out there who doesn't think Pburg is capable of sending us home.

I am also proud of these young men. I have actually been one of a very select few who have said most all year this team could be dangerous come playoff time.

These boys are not the biggest, fastest, strongest, nor most athletic team Prestonsburg has ever had. These boys do play to their ability and play with more heart than any team at Prestonsburg the last 3 years. That is the simple reason I have said for some time now they could be dangerous come playoffs. Guess what.... its the 3rd round and we are still here.

At the start of the season on paper Somerset was state bound. Anybody would have picked them to beat the Blackcats by 4 td's, and rightfully so. Injuries plagued Somerset all year as well as the Blackcats. Both are probably more healthy now than they have been all year. Not to mention this is a very young Blackcat team that has grown leaps and bounds throughout the season. They are peaking at the right time.

Prestonsburg's offense is not what it has been in the past few years, but the defense is the best I have seen in the last 3 years. I look for this game to be one hell of a battle between 2 great programs.

I for one think most of the Somerset fans on here are a classy bunch of folks. I hope for an injury free game for both teams.

Prestonsburg 21
Somerset 17

Git'er done boys.

I think some P'burg Fans, are letting the fact that Somerset Fans are real happy to have all skill people back, take this to seriously. We are just real pleased to have these kids back on the field at the same time. All Somerset Fans know that P'burg is a very good ball club. Friday we will see if the Black Cats can contain Somerset's speed or if Somerset can stop P'burgh Off. Good Luck and Go Jumpers!!!
#76
This will be a spirited contest, I think the winner will have to control the ball and get a couple turnovers. I will be pulling for the Blackcats!!!
#77
duh...

Correction to what I wrote above: ...the Admirals had the strongest run game in District 8 (not 7).

:HitWall:

I'll echo #1BCF's sentiments. Looking forward to a great game Friday !!

The Blackcat defense is the biggest difference in this team from the past couple of years - there is far better discipline in maintaining gap control vs. "everyone running to the ball". Another difference is Coach D and Coach A seem to have developed a level of trust in this team's power running game - it is something P-burg had executed poorly previously.

It's "P-burg" (or "Pburg") and "Blackcats". Don't force me to use "S'Set" and "Brer Rabbits" (ala "Song of the South").

Well excuse the hell out of me!!! I really don't care how you spell either. Friday you will be spelling Somerset in all Capital Letters.:Clap:

Somerset seems to be surviving and in the process getting healthy. I will take Somerset in this one 28 to 13. The senior leadership for this team will lead them again.
#83
Yeah, pburg fans seem to be highly sensitive. You need to act like you have been here before.

Was wondering how long it would be before you came over here to stir things up after you invoked Prestonsburg in the NCC/Verona thread... Prestonsburg fans are simply enjoying these playoffs - wherever it leads, it's all good !!
