I'm not sure which game you watched, but the starting fast kids in Maroon have no problem taking a hit.

You can fit actual predictions and discussing the game in about 2 pages...

Where would be the fun in that though? We can only hope the game is as entertaining as this thread has been.
EKUAlum05 Wrote:FTR..here are the only "Blowout" predictions I found...2 for Bourbon...2 for Belfry

Neither team is having predictions spewing trash..I do see people who are doing everything in their power to put themselves in the underdog role and put a chip on their shoulder though from both sides Wink

Its not just the blowout talk (which i noticed you left a few Belfry quotes out) Its the

"we're gonna hit Bourbon in the mouth like never before"

"Speed means nothing when your laying on your back looking for the liscence plate of the truck that just ran over ya"

"What are they gonna do when Belfry starts poppin pads"

"I'm sure Mr. hatfield will introduce himself to #33 while he's running through him"

"If Bourbon gets frustrated, this game could get chippy, and we usually don't start fights, but we will finish them"

"Our DT is faster than your fastest guy""

Now those are paraphrases, I didn't feel like quoting all of those, but...

Does that sound like an underdog talking?

If I didn't know any better I'd think we were playing the steal curtain Friday night

What did you expect to find on a text based message board? It's not like people are chirping without provocation... it's banter.. it's what you get on a message board. If you simply want to hear coach speak then read a newspaper.

It is very obvious to me from reading back:
1) There are probably 20X-25X more Belfry posters on this site or posting in this thread... obviously frequency is transitive of quantity. There will certainly be more trash talk in volume based on having more people to post it.

2) The vast percentage of predictions on the actual game by Bourbon and Belfry fans are expecting a very close game

3) Both teams have a couple fans who are bound and determined to somehow paint their team as being disrespected (" We are playing Alabama", all the speed talk, "maybe we should just forfeit" , eluding to Twitter comments by teenagers and pictures etc) when in actuality the flow of respect and subsequent posturing has been essentially the same

At the end of the day the underdog/disrespect card is nothing more than a way for fans to claim their own personal victory if their team wins... and for the players who may read the site...it gives them something to talk about with their buddies 10 years down the road as they reminisce about how "Bourbon said they had 8 guys faster than anyone on Belfry and we shut them down" or "Belfry said they were going to bash our brains in and we showed them". The Bourbon locker room will say that Belfry thinks they don't belong and that they are soft and that they are going to blow them out...the Belfry locker room will say how Bourbon thinks they are going to score 50 on them and be running wind sprints all game on their TD runs and that they are going to blow them out... when it is all said and done all that really matters is who is more prepared and who executes.

I don't mind and enjoy it as long as everyone keeps their wits and a sense of humor
On the first page alone I read 3 to 4 post from Belfry fans actually saying BC could very well win. Not once did I see a BC fan say that Belfry may win. Just food for thought.
On a side note...

I am currently 2nd in the season long Pick'Em contest and trailing 1st by a single measly point...

I picked Bourbon to win

I hope I lose that pick'em point.. I will gladly sacrifice losing the Pick"Em Contest for Another State Finals appearance HAHA

Boy will it suck when you lose to me by 1 point. All because I had faith in your team and you didn't. Confusednicker:TongueirateSho
Don't let the lack of talk about belfry winning fool you, we know they can win this game. Here's my attempt to settle the strength of schedule thing: yes belfry has played a tougher schedule overall, bourbon crushed everybody they played but none of that matters now. On the field it's all about match-ups. Can bourbons skilled players beat Belfrys? In the passing game, I like #2 and #24 over what belfry has in a one-on-one situation, if bourbon beats belfry at the initial catch and misses a tackle, the speed will be shown and will result in a touchdown. Last just belfry didn't miss very many tackles so that speed couldn't be shown. The running game is to Belfrys advantage I believe, Holman and Hill for bourbon are good but belfry has depth in the backfield which is why I give a nod to belfry.
On the defensive side, bourbon has some weaknesses but from what I've heard, so does belfry. Belfry has statistically played better these last 3 weeks but who have they really played to instill such confidence? Same guys for bourbon on the offensive side, Garrard county was actually the most competitive team in the 4th quarter, if I'm not mistaken it was 22-0 in the 4th. They gave bourbons offense fits for 3 quarters. That was also the first game without pope at qb but still with all of our playmakers, bourbon struggled. This game is a toss up to me in every way, I'm thinking a 31-28 type of game.

Bourbon played without cox QB that game also

We are on the same page together.

Tackling is the name of the game Friday.. a close second is emotional execution.

I think on a neutral field it is a toss-up...but putting bias aside it is hard to go against the Senior laden team playing at Home with a team that will have 5 Freshman playing key roles.

I feel confident Belfry will be well prepared to be in the correct positions to stop Bourbon's offense and hurt Bourbon's defense... but history this year has shown that Belfry will miss tackles and Belfry will have moments where they shoot themselves in the foot on offense via turnovers and costly mistakes.

If Belfry reverts back to old ways and struggle to tackle and kill thier own drives:
Bourbon 38
Belfry 21

If Belfry puts it all together and the defense we have seen the past two weeks is not an illusion of competition and familiarity:

Belfry 35
Bourbon 21

Where I think the game plays out:
Bourbon 31
Belfry 28

Where do you see Woolum and Wellman playing into this one? This has to be the best combo of punter and kicker Belfry has had in a very long time. Does having a punter who can kick the snot out of the ball help that much?

BoCo fans how is your FG/XP unit? Belfry has a history of getting a good FG/XP block in big games.
I do know this... Adena Springs Field will be rocking with the Colonel Nation on Friday, it's gonna be Nuts!!! I am sure a good Belfry team is looking forward to the challenge
That Pond Creek Nation is what's gonna make Adena Springs Field rock on Friday, baby!!!

Tell ya something Football Junky......I don't live in Belfry, or even Pike County!! I am an adopted fan of their's from the Black Bear Nation! That's right, baby Harlan County!!!

Does the Belfry kicker still kick with that wooden boot?
Nah, it's a mind game. He don't even kick it; he just WILLS it through the uprights!!!

Don't sell the Colonel nation short, there will be a huge crowd for Bourbon! We all know Belfry will bring their crowd. There will be many other fans from Boyle, Mercer, etc that support Bourbon since their teams are out! Gonna be electric!

I would feel better if Woolum was able to consistently get touchbacks on his kickoffs. Bourbon's big play ability in the kick return game worries me.

A missed XP will be huge Friday, but at the same time I am not sure Belfry kicks the FG unless it is a sure thing.. If it is a 30 yard FG or less than Belfry tries it facing a 4th and Medium or 4th and Long... otherwise I think the Pirates go for it.

Anything in the punt game deviating from normal (ie a bad punt or a boomer punt) certainly would play a role... but I am not sure Bourbon's Field Position is going to be as paramount with their style of offense as if Belfry were playing a grinder style of team like a Central. Bourbon's offense is built to pick up large chunks..if Bourbon is having to score with 12-15 play drives then Belfry is in a good position because that clock is running and the Colonels aren't hitting their home runs.

Secondarily, I feel confident Belfry will have success on Bourbon's defense, and if Bourbon is forcing Belfry to scrape and claw for every yard they have bigger fish to fry than the kicking game. When you play a Central where you know possessions are going to be few and far between and that points will be at a premium, then Field Position is borderline paramount. My concerns versuses Bourbon is to simply be the team getting the big plays and big stops when they are needed and using the "Death By a Thousand Cuts" that Belfry does so well.

As I said, this does not diminish these phases any... and any critical play in Special Teams certainly an swing a close game.. but viewing it from what is expected I think in this matchup Special Teams may play second fiddle.

One thing I have noticed that both Bourbon and Wayne have mastered this year is the art of the onside kick while winning to seal the game. There has seemingly been a couple games I have followed where Bourbon has had a lead and recovered an onside kick that promptly led to another score that took a game out of reach. I am sure the Belfry staff is well aware of this.
Oh, I am not selling Bourbon's fan base short! But Belfry is Belfry. They are loud and proud and obnoxious...just like ME!!
Wink
Football Junky Wrote:Does the Belfry kicker still kick with that wooden boot?

Nope

Woolum is a Freshman soccer style kicker.... he is going to be one of the best kicker's in EKY by his Senior year as long as he continues to put in the work.

I think he missed 2 XP's the entire season and one of those was literally called good by one official it was so close.

The punter is a Sophomore in Wellman (If I recall he had a couple big punts last year vs. Bourbon).

Wellman won't be confused for Tim Masthay.. he doesn't boom kicks or kick them a mile high (yet)..but he has had an All-State kind of season so far. I ma willing to bet he is Top 5 in the State in % of punts downed inside the 20...specifically inside the 10. He worked hard in the offseason on some new techniques and he has been lethal with his ability to locate punts and get the right roll.

I asked this question to some bourbon fans last week, how many teams would willingly kick to bourbon? The overwhelming answer was not very many, if belfry punts and booms one down the field to #2, hold your breath, like wise in a kick off. That crushed mason last week.

I doubt you see that... as I just edited in my post Wellman's not a big leg punter..he is a precision punter who relies on placing his kick and putting the right spin so a 30 yard punt becomes an un-returnable 45 yard punt that rolled 15 yards

Belfry's M.O. on kickoffs though is to directional kick and make you return
