Was told by Madison Central A.D. Brandon Fritz that Coach Smith is very interested and hopefully they can make it a done deal.

Smith would be a great hire. Madison Central is a sleeping giant.

Chuck smith turned around and said "BOO" to his shadow, -it ran off-

Do you think his history at Boyle County and being a college coach for awhile might bring some unrealistic expectations? He's a great coach and could do some great things at schools like Madison Central or Ryle, but I wouldn't expect much right away.

It took a while to build the success at Boyle, and he started building from the bottom up. Realistically I think it would take him at least 3-4 years to develop a team to play the way he would want it to. But I think he would raise the competitiveness of any team he took over ASAP.

I've heard Coach Smith's name mentioned around almost every opening in the state of Kentucky for the past few years now. I have also heard from pretty good sources that there is mutual interest between the two. However, does Madison Central have a backup plan incase the Smith plan falls through?

I think the second tier choices are Mark Scenters, John Hodge, and Robbie Lucas. Could be some others in the mix we're not hearing about.

Have all those guys applied or is it just hearsay at this point?

Can't see Hodge leaving Bourbon County. He has things going pretty good
there... With all of Scenters ties to the area (wife works for school, family
lives in Madison Co. and relationship with school officials), this will probably
not happen. He has a solid foundation at Garrard, and has said that he is not
leaving. Lucas is a higher possibility....

I agree. There are only a few schools John Hodge would leave for. MC is not one of them.

Robbie Lucas would be a Great Hire for Madison Central. He would get the job done in a Couple years.

Maybe so but Madison Central has the talent and want to to win NOW!!! Tons of young talent and even more that did not come out and play for Browne.

Am hearing the Chuck Smith to MC is getting some legs to it. I agree that expectations will be very high. If coach Smith were to coach there, the number of wins and losses may not change greatly the first couple of years but the teams they field will compete will absolutely come after you. The teams will be smaller though because the number of kids who are willing to work as hard as Chuck requires will go down initially.

Its a done deal from a convo with a friend of mine who coaches at Mc. Chuck Smith is gonna be MC new coach.congrats on the wonderful hire. !!

I will disagree with that 100%. The kids at Central want someone who will be tough, but actually not be personally rude to them. After talking to someone close to the hiring process they got rid of Coach Browne not because he was tough but because he and some of his staff members belittled players. Central wants tough coaches, but also teach them something other than just sports and Chuck Smith is the guy. I look for Madison Central to get kids out by the droves. Can't Stop the Chop!

One thing about Chuck is he will make them work hard. I've been told that Jacob Tamme even said that practices at UK under Brooks where easy compared to Boyle's.

I hope Chuck Smith gets the job at Madison Central, but he is no different than any other coach out there. He will only be as good as his talent and the coaching staff he can assemble, both of which were VERY good his last 6-7 seasons at Boyle Co.
In talking to someone close to the situation at Madison Central, Browne was never afforded much opportunity to bring in a coaching staff. It will be curious to see what concessions they make for Chuck Smith in that area.
Madison Central will have talent, but for the most part, they will always be behind in talent in comparison to the Lexington schools/Scott Co.

You have NO CLUE what you are talking about there? Madison Central is LOADED with talent, the key is getting the kids out to play.

I may not have a clue, but history is on my side. The problem at Madison Central is the perception that they are loaded with talent. Yes, there is talent there, but nowhere near the amount of talent that people like you boast about.
Many good coaches have come and gone at Madison Central...with not much to show for it.

That's because the best athletes at that school don't come out for football. It is not encouraged by other coaches in that school.

Mc has great talent and has always had the opportunity to ne really good. But there are several reoccuring problems.
1. Grades
2. Burt.... hard time disciplining the kids because of the administration.
3. Getting the really talented kids out to play.
4. You have to start a tradition which they really have never down.

Any news on this? When can we expect an announcement?

I hope that you all are right about the talent in the school. However, I saw MCHS play 4 times and I didnt see a great amount of talent but they did have a large frosh class. I also liked the young QB. I thought he handled himself well under adverse conditions. They also had a lanky receiver that I liked but they seemed to be small up front. That could have just appeared that way due to the competition being large. This is from a person who has no real knowledge of the personnel other than a fan's perspective. I wish Coach Smith and MCHS very well. I hope this becomes a done deal soon. I wonder if Smith will begin work after Christmas? It would be good if he had a semester in the off season and a spring practice period with them.

I've heard yesterday that Chuck is happy at Bardstown and more than likely will stay where he is.

This does not surprise Me!!! Now if this is true, where does Madison Central turn??? Mike Holcomb or Robbie Lucas???? Either would do a Great Job.

Who did Scenters tell that he wasnt interested? I have heard that he might be interested but you cant expect these guys with jobs presently to come out wide open if they dont know its a very good chance that the job is theirs. You dont want to alienate your fans and you especially dont want your players to know that you are looking for a another job. They cant expect these guys to go through an application process that will be well publicized without a pretty good idea that they are going to get the job. I think that Scenters might be very interested in the MCHS job if it was done in the right way and, from what I hear, he would be a very good hire.

While I agree chuck is very happy at Btown he will be a HC next year.

With rumors of Larry French trying to get the Southwestern job, any chance Smith is holding out to try to make a return to Boyle?

I find this rumor very hard to have any truth to it.

After making a few calls I could be wrong and will leave it at that.
