I've been wrong before, but I say Weinrich lands the position.

Cannot believe that Chuck Smith was able to find housing in Fort Thomas that quick.

Congrats to Highlands for getting the job done. And congrats to the new head coach. I'm sure that the future of Highlands football is in good hands.

They could of had Charlie Strong but the money wasn't right

What happen to Highlands Head Coach Dale Mueller?
01-04-2014, 02:38 AM
He retired.
01-06-2014, 01:25 PM
School called off today, so announcement has been moved to 1/8/14.
01-07-2014, 09:41 PM
Who is the new coach? Or is it a secret until the announcement?
01-07-2014, 09:53 PM
Named tomorrow 1/8/14. Unfortunately it will probably be Weinrich. He can't run a defense let alone a whole team.

Highlands sure has struggled the last few years. I hope the new guy can turn it around...

I just hope he'll continue to enforce the policy prohibiting smoking on school property, particularly by coaches. I mean seriously, what assistant coach would smoke on school property particularly when there is a school policy prohibiting it?
And for the record, Weinrich has had some outstanding defenses during his tenure as the Defensive Coordinator. Heck Highlands defense the one year you were permitted to be a volunteer assistant coach at Highlands wasn't too bad. The 04, 07 and 09 defenses were absolutely outstanding. 05, 08 and 10 were really, really good. The 05 defense held LexCath to 17 points in the playoff loss, which was way below what LexCath had been scoring. And the 06, 11 and 12 defenses were pretty darn good themselves. It's just this past season's defense that was what I'd consider to be a less than average one. Brian didn't all of a sudden forget how to coach defenses this past year. Personnel was the problem; not only the lack of talent on defense but the attitudes and mentalities of some of the better defensive players (and I'll leave it at that).
The two platoon system bit Highlands defense in the butt this past season I'll admit. Not only were there some players on O that could have been more fully utilized by playing some D also, but because of the lack of depth on D, some of the starters on D that wanted to do their "own thing" (at least it seemed so to me) had to be played.
If one wanted to judge the two platoon system by just this past season, I would agree that Highlands should get rid of it. But if one includes 09, 10, 11 and 12 in the assessment pool, the two platoon system has worked extremely well at Highlands since it was implemented. There is less than a 5% chance we beat Cincy X in 09 if we had not two platooned in my opinion.

So let me make sure I understand what you are saying here. Personnel was the issue on the defensive side of the ball. There were some kids on offense that could have helped out on defense.
My question to you then is why were kids not moved to the defensive side of the ball if personnel was an issue. From my vantage point, this was pretty evident in the first scrimmage against Trinity and for certain in the game against Warren Central. Was the feeling that they were simply going to outscore every opponent and thus defense was not that important? I always thought that "defense" wins championships, but what you are saying is that did not matter to HHS? Who ultimately makes the decision on what side of the ball that kids should and will play on? Please do not tell me that the kids do, because I do not believe that at all based upon my experiences.
Will be curious to see how Coach Weinrich addresses this situation now that he has the keys to the Ferrari.

Well...new coach named. I have said enough about this. So, I don't need to make a statement. But if my beloved Birds go down hill. I will be back.

Why would you worry about what anyone chooses to do with there life. I will bet anything you are a Democrat. I think Highland has proven they know how to hire a coach and run a football program with out any help from us.
