We won titles in 2A before we went to 1A. It doesn't matter on way or the other. Beechwood is the one who will be glad Mayfield goes to 2A.
Great job!

You could also pull S.Oldham out of D3 and put them in with the NKy district. Those swaps would eliminate any 6 team districts.
Actually Somerset is twice as far from Barren County than Bowling Green.

- Ballard Memorial, Mayfield, and Murray would be in District 1. However, there aren't any other teams to reasonably put in this district.
- Todd County Central is off by themselves and would be forced to be in a district with Ballard Memorial, Mayfield and Murray.
- The District 2 I came up with might work: Butler County, Hancock County, McLean County, Owensboro Catholic, Webster County
- District 3 wouldn't be bad either: Clinton County, Edmonson County, Glasgow, Green County, Metcalfe County, Monroe County
- Edmonson County to Clinton County would be almost a 2 hour drive though.
- Fort Knox and Shawnee are currently in a 7-team district, 5 of those are no longer in 2A with this. That results in a spread out District 4: Danville, Fort Knox, Lexington Christian, Shawnee, Washington County
- District 5 would stay the same: Carroll County, Gallatin County, Owen County, Trimble County, Walton-Verona
- District 6 would also remain the same besides the loss of Bishop Brossart to 1A: Holy Cross (Covington), Lloyd Memorial, Newport, Newport Central Catholic
- I had a hard time coming up with District 7 and 8 with the following teams: Allen Central, Bath County, Betsy Layne, Leslie County, Magoffin County, Middlesboro, Prestonsburg, Shelby Valley, Somerset, West Carter
Webster would be the closest team to finish out D1, instead of Todd Central.

Yeah, it's about 35-40 miles further, but, may be the best solution just the same. There's no way it's ever going to be perfect where every team has a 45minute or less drive to every district opponent.

I put Todd County Central in District 1 because they are further away from the other Western Kentucky teams (McLean County, Owensboro Catholic, Butler County, etc. than Webster County. Webster County fits better into District 2 than Todd County Central.

This had to be considerable work, right? Having to go pull enrollment numbers for every school, from two different reports. Then to get an average 4 year male enrollment and arrange that in order from top to bottom so you could break it down in classes.
No wonder there are a couple of bugs.
Just curious, RIUTG, how long did it take you to crunch all them numbers?
I didn't. I copy and pasted from somewhere else.
If you set down and actually do the work, I would imagine it would take atleast 2 or 3 hours.
However, anyone can do it with the two enrollment reports.

D7 - Middlesboro, Leslie Co, Clinton Co, Somerset, Magoffin Co
D8 - Bath Co, W.Carter,S.Valley, Prestonsburg, E.Ridge
2 problems with your placement in Region 4 (D7 and D8):
#1. You left out 2 teams - Betsy Layne and Allen Central, both in Floyd County with Prestonsburg and both in the new 2A numbers. They would take the place of Bath Co. and West Carter in D8.
#2. How did you group Magoffin Co. in with Somerset and Clinton Co? I am not sure you can get to Clinton Co. from Saylersville.
I feel Bath Co will for sure apply to play 3A. West Carter may as well but thay have lost a ton of kids. (East Carter has grown to 4A and West Carter is dropping...wonder where they are going?).
2 wildcards in the equation - Morgan Co and Sheldon Clark. My sources tell me both MAY be looking to drop to 2A. Morgan Co's enrollment has dropped since the devastating tornado. Sheldon Clark's totals have also dropped, due in part to the troubles with the school building/ road construction and recent job market hits. If they both somehow were to wind up in 2A (meaning 2 would have to move up), then you have Magoffin Co., Morgan Co., West Carter, Sheldon Clark,( and potentially Bath Co.) in a geographically sound district opposite the new D8.
Again this is just my opinion.

How about some 6A options? I know 6A does things different, but if were talking about geographic differences, I only really see one or two schools that would have to make an extra effort to get out and travel.
Region 1
District 1 Muhlenberg County, Henderson County, McCracken County, Daviess County
District 2 North Hardin, Meade County, Central Hardin, Pleasure Ridge Park
Region 2
District 3 Butler, DuPont Manual, Male, Seneca
District 4 Trinity, St. Xavier, Fern Creek, Ballard
Region 3
District 5 Jeffersontown, Eastern, Oldham County, Boone County
District 6 Dixie Heights, Campbell County, Ryle, Simon Kenton
Region 4
District 7 Scott County, Lafayette, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Henry Clay
District 8 Tates Creek, Bryan Station, Madison Central, George Rogers Clark

I really think they'll stick with a five-team NKY district and an uneven district (currently the three-team D-2) since
- PRP is closer to the 12 schools in D3-D4-D5 than it would be to ANY school in D2
- Boone is closer to four schools in D6 than to ANY school in D5
With five NKY schools, there's no good solution.
Still, I'd think the KHSAA would keep the FIVE together instead of forcing ONE into two long road trips for district games (and then in turn forcing two Louisville teams to travel to NKY for a district game against Boone).
I'm NOT a PRP or Boone fan. More than 40 miles from PRP and at least two hours from Boone.
Still, that would suck for them when there ARE options to keep them closer to home.
The 8x4 setup is good in theory ... until you gotta look at a map.
You gotta remember, when the 32-team 6-A was first created, Tates Creek was put into the Meade-Central Hardin district. Meade and Central threw a fit. So did Tates Creek. No rivalry there. Plenty of unneeded mileage.

I agree completely.
I was trying to work out a 4 team district in every scenario, but its really hard to do.
However, I think if you look over the PRP and Boone thing, all schools are pretty good on travel time.
I slotted PRP to that district because they were the closest to that district and the school farthest west in Lville.
I also slotted Boone to there district because they were the farthest school east in NKY.
Either way, I think this would be a good way to do it. Sure PRP and Boone might have to travel more than the rest, but that's only two schools, and instead of making the whole thing screwed up, you could reimburse those two schools with something.
01-03-2014, 09:30 AM
Thing is, Boone and PRP would NOT be the only teams affected (even though PRP HAS been with North Hardin and Meade County and Central Hardin in the past, so there's at least some history there). And I'm not so sure looking at a map that Boone is definitely without a doubt the closest NKY team to LOU.
You'd have the one (one year) or two (the next year, or vice versa) district teams that would have to hit the road to Boone or PRP to play them for a district game.
Plus, sticking them in districts with no rivals, especially close, kills gates for BOTH teams.
I know in 3-A not many Henry fans came down to LaRue and E'town. Likewise, not many E'town and LaRue folks drove clear across Jefferson and Oldham County to watch their teams play Henry. Louisville Central was a different beast, since Central is
- Better
- Closer
You think making Boone and PRP travel (and force teams to come to them) is better than what we have now, 8x4 be darned? I don't.
Granted you only play one game a week, but football is the ONLY sport which would force a team to travel that far for a required game when there are teams much closer to home. Doesn't make much sense.
I've said the same thing to those wackos who want to class soccer (even though there are far less soccer teams than football). Even in a three-class setup, Elizabethtown (which is considered pretty central by most accounts and has plenty of major roadways which run thru it) would have some crazy drives for playoff games (and perhaps even district games) in class soccer compared to what we have now.

2A Solely based on teams on list, knowing there will be alot of moving..
D1-Ballard Mem., Mayfield, Murray, Crittenden
D2- Webster, Mclean, Owensboro Cath., Hancock Co.
D3- Todd Co. Central, Butler Co., Edmonson Co., Glasgow
D4- Monroe Co., Clinton Co., Metcalfe Co., Green Co., Somerset
D5- Fort Knox, Washington Co., Danville, Lex. Christian, Shawnee
D6- NCC, Newport, Cov. Holy Cross, Lloyd Memorial, Walton Verona
D7- Middlesboro, Leslie Co., Allen Central, Betsy Lane, Shelby Valley
D8- Bath Co., West Carter, Magoffin Co., P-Burg, East Ridge
I have one school on here, Crittenden Co. that I think will be 2A. Geographically and very close on enrollment.
If you take the football map and draw circles around the districts, they're all very reasonable, and all very much equal in distance.

SV, Betsy Layne, P'burg, East Ridge, and Allen Central would be a district. The other district would be completely messed up with Bath Co, Magoffin Co, and West Carter 3+ hours from Middlesboro for district games. I am almost sure BC will apply to play up. I'll be absolutely pissed if CovCath and Highlands aren't in the same class anymore.
The best rivalry in Kentucky broken apart? That would be stupid.
They'd probably still play, but it wouldn't have the same air about the game, not to mention they wouldn't get to play twice.

Then what about this? This includes all 40 2A teams as an entire district with Carroll, Trimble, Owen, and Gallatin Co's were left off the original:
D1-Ballard Mem., Mayfield, Murray, Todd Co. Central, Webster
D2 Mclean, Owensboro Cath., Hancock Co., Butler Co., Edmonson Co

I placed P'burg and Allen Central in D7 as the were farther north than Betsy Layne.
This also keeps DeSales in 3A as no one would be playing up.

WILDCAT NATION Wrote:Then what about this? This includes all 40 2A teams as an entire district with Carroll, Trimble, Owen, and Gallatin Co's were left off the original:
D1-Ballard Mem., Mayfield, Murray, Todd Co. Central, Webster
D2 Mclean, Owensboro Cath., Hancock Co., Butler Co., Edmonson Co
D3- Glasgow, Monroe Co., Clinton Co., Metcalfe Co., Green Co
D4- Shawnee, Trimble Co, Gallatin Co, Owen Co, Carroll Co
D5- NCC, Newport, Cov. Holy Cross, Lloyd Memorial, Walton Verona
D6- Fort Knox, Washington Co., Danville, Lex. Christian, Somerset
D7- Middlesboro, Leslie Co., East Ridge, Betsy Lane, Shelby Valley
D8- Bath Co., West Carter, Magoffin Co., P-Burg, Allen Central
I placed P'burg and Allen Central in D7 as the were farther north than Betsy Layne.
This also keeps DeSales in 3A as no one would be playing up.
The only problem is Mboro is 3 hours away from Betsy Layne, East Ridge, and Shelby Valley.
They will throw an absolute fit before that happened and would petition to play up to 3A before they would play in a district where they would have to travel 3 hours for 3 of there 4 district games. Same with Leslie I would imagine.

Leslie is in a district with Betsy Lane, Shelby Valley and P-burg. The travel isn't to bad. Takes about an hour 15 to P-burg, hour 20 to BL and the same to Shelby Valley but they go through Whitesburg. A lot faster..
I'm sure this scenario would be a welcome change for Middlesboro than haveing to drive to Danville, Lexington..
Middlesboro could also very we'll be put in 1a and be in a district with Pineville, Harlan, Hazard... Who knows...
