Lyon will sign his national letter of intent to play for the Bearcats on Feb 5th. The young man had several small school scholarship offers but decided to take the preferred walk on from UC. Best of luck.

Good Luck Tyler. But why sign a LOI if you are walking on. Kind of paint yourself in a corner if someone else comes up with an offer.

Mantax, is that you????

He is a preferred walk on? I think he will do great at UC.

Is this the big receiver? If so that's a steal for UC, kids an excellent route runner and has good hands.

Lyon played TE/DE #45 6'5 200 once he gets some weight added to that frame look out.

You called? Never heard of signing a letter of intent to walk on to a program, but whatever works for you. Good luck to the kid, it is a tough road being a walk on and you really have to love the game, but there have been kids that have had success in the past.

Not the same kid I was thinking of but 45 was a very good ball player. He matched up against our all stater (Skidmore #75) a few times in the NCC vs. Somerset game and despite being outweighed by quite a bit it was a battle. Kid had good pad level and a great motor on the defensive line. Glad to see he'll be playing at the next level.

Never heard? Is that supposed to mean something? I've said before, you clearly have no knowledge of anything football related. It's a D1 thing mantax, you wouldn't sign one for walking on at union or Thomas more. He didn't just wake up and say, you know what, I'm going to walk on at UC, lol. You don't just walk on to a D1 program, you have to be invited. Some knowledge for you.
I don't care what lvl it is, to play college football, you better love it. It's an entirely differnent process. I've seen scholarship players quit the first few days of training camp.

Congrats to Billy, you have to be proud:Thumbs:

You have no idea what I have knowledge of and what I do not. As I said, good luck to the man and hopefully he can live up to daddy's expectations. I know there have been several kids from NKY that have walked on at UC and had some success later in their careers, so hopefully he sticks with it and an enjoy that success as well.

You don't have to sign anything to walk on, preferred or otherwise.
That being said I think he might be anexcellent TE one day if he fills in his frame. UC has had great success producing TE's over the years. Good Luck and stick with it Tyler. Did his Dad walk on at Marshall or did he go on scholarship out of Lloyd?

No, you don't. From what I was told, UC sent him the letter. They wanted him to sign it. Regardless, congrats.
Actually, his dad did walk on at Marshall. Louisville had offered him on his visit, but due to a failed physical, pulled out right before signing date. Can't compare the two, his dad was 6'4 250 as a senior. If the son was that heavy, would be turning full rides down, but it is what it is.
Nothing wrong with earning your way, makes you appreciate it even more.

Can a walk-on sign the National Letter of Intent?
No, a walk-on athlete cannot sign the National Letter of Intent. The National Letter of Intent is for scholarship athletes.

You Do Not Sign an NLI as a Walk-on or Recruited Walk-on
You will only be signing an NLI and an athletic aid agreement if you will be receiving a scholarship from the university. If you are planning on walking-on or are known as a recruited walk-on you will not sign an NLI.

I wondered about the LOI's. Makes sense when you think about it. Regardless he signed something because it's an accomplishment. True statement about if he had his dad's thickness he'd have his pick of schools. Not too many guys who could move the way his dad did with his size.

Well, in this case, I worded it wrong. I just report what I'm told lol. Was worded as "National signing day paperwork". He was giving the "preferred walk on" status, which is why he turned down partials to other schools.
It's amazing how many little rules there are, no wonder coaches get in trouble easy.

^ It doesn't matter. It does not take away the fact that the young man gets the opportunity to join a Division 1 school and participate in a great program. And the fact is, UC WANTED HIM THERE!!! Congrats to a local NKY product and I and the rest of Campbell County HS alumni wish him well!

Best of luck with the Bearcats! Congrats to the family.
