Ridiculous amount of turnover in the Football staff year in & year out. Will take at least 4 years of stability & good coaching in the JV, Freshman, Jr High, & youth to upgrade Valley from bottom feeder program.

Shelby valley only lost a few senior from last year team. I would think they would be better this year.

How pathetic. Greg Napier hiring his buddy to help him get a few wins in his alusteris career. Good job nothing like Pike Co. politics

Ratliff is a great coach and proven winner. If he is the man for the job best wishes to him.

Guys you really don't know how great of a job he did at Jenkins. They won more games at Jenkins in one season than they did in five years combined. He will do good at Valley.

Go ask Jim Matney or Shawn Hagar or Chris McNamee how good of a job he can do. Ratliff is a great coach. Don't let his HC record fool you, Magoffin, East Ridge, and Jenkins don't really have the talent required to win.

There is a huge difference between being a good assistant and a great head coach. Sorry I just don't see it. This is just Napier helping his buddy get his retirement up and Pike County just recycling the good ole boys. Not knocking his knowledge and I am sure the leadership of Hager, McNamee, and Matney helped him as well. But that don't make you a great head coach.

I guess you should have gotten the job Hardcore1. There must have been SOOOO Many great candidates that they passed up.
04-14-2014, 10:45 AM
We need to quit bashing a man before he officially gets the job, we need to support him and give him a chance. Hardcore1 he can cry and complain all you want, but it will not change anything. I am looking forward to watch these SV Wildcats hit the field this fall.

Oh I need not cry or complain. And I can assure you there is nothing that would make me ever want to come to PIKE CO. least of all the politics that goes on there. I am not complaining just telling the truth. Huge difference. I wish the Wildcats the best of luck this fall and many falls to come. But it will not change the fact that you are getting ready to witness Pike Co. politics at its best. Now I do not know who applied but it was just posted a week ago and now they are ready to hire. Looks like they are not looking for a candidate since they already have one.

I heard from a few different people that Shawn Thacker (Pikeville's defensive coach) applied for the job/
04-15-2014, 02:39 PM
I also heard that Coach Ratliff will be the new coach.
I hate to see him leave E.R. My opinion he helped that program more in one year than any other person who has came and gone in the past 8 years. Great coach, and there is a lot of parents along with students who will miss him. I wish him and SV the best of luck.

Hope they give him consideration. He would make a fine head coach.

Terrible way for a very good coach and a great family to leave a community. SBDM should just say u have to be buddies with the principal to be considered. Make it a school policy. Friends only will be considered. Piss on ability. Stepp will be coaching somewhere. :lame:

Curious. How'd they push Stepp out the door? I'm sure everyone would love to hear how they got rid of him without actually getting rid of him.

Yes maybe they handle things in the wrong way, which that is Pike Co Politics at it best. I hate to see Stepp go as coach as well, but what happens is going to happen and the community must support the new coach when he is officially hire.

If Ratliff is the new Head Coach, the ER-SV game will be dandy.

Really a shame for the program that Stepp is leaving. I really thought he had things moving in the right direction. But if he indeed left to take an administrator position, then good for him and I wish him well.
As for the new coach, I don't know anything about Eric Ratliff other than his history with the East Ridge program. I know he never really did much there, but then again it wasn't exactly the best situation to try to win either. Hopefully he will do well and stay at SV for a few years. Goodness knows that program could use some stability for once.

Thanks for the detailed explanation I asked for of HOW he was pushed out the door. That really clears a lot of things up.
Once again, anybody have proof that he was pushed out and not leaving on his own?

They told him they were going to advertise the position and he could re-apply but they were going to hire E.R.. That wasn't supposed to be public but now it is. I don't know what else you could call that. He is going to be coaching somewhere else. That's pretty much what I call being pushed out, no, I call that being fired.

People won't think losing Stepp was a big deal, but wait a year and see if they don't fall off the map. We all know their senior heavy. Will have a good year. We will see in two years, how this hire was.
04-21-2014, 07:43 AM
Actually Shelby Valley will be junior heavy. I think around 13 kids will be juniors. They will have a 6 or 7 seniors.

Maybe there will be a drop-off, but if kids quit being lazy and actually work and try to improve their game this won’t happen. Too many kids don’t want to sacrifice there time anymore. Stepp was a good role model for these kids and I will miss him on the sidelines next year @ Valley. Whenever “The Powers That Be” decide to hire someone maybe our kids can have to spring practice before their dead period starts up

Are they sending him to Phelps, aka purgatory, to never be heard from again?

After 4 years and an overall record of 18-26 means it is time for a change.
Whoever takes the job needs to not worry about basketball etc. and take the players you get and make the best of it. I have not seen a head coach there take interest in the youth to where the kids will say "Man I can't wait to get to high school and play for them". Effort equals success.

Stepp was only there 3 years. From what I've heard, he was building towards the next two years when all HIS talent had matured.
04-22-2014, 09:19 PM
HIS talent? lol. He sure used all his talent the last 3 years with his dominant record of an impressive 13-33. They should've been a lot better than what they were this year. Football is football. If you don't win, you don't coach. All this bull crap whiney talk about politics is pitiful. He's not fired because politics, he's fired cause he couldn't win. I bet if he would've had an 8 win season he wouldn't have been fired. You win you stay, you lose you go home. How bout we all stop whining because a coach got fired for losing over 65% of his games the last 3 years and try and support the new one that will be coming in whether it's E.R. , Lou holtz or Frosty the snowman.
