What are your predictions on the upcoming season? Who will be in bowling green?
04-18-2014, 09:55 AM
I'm cautiously optimistic. Again, I think it will come down to Caldwell, and DeSales for the west, and as usual NCC in the east, and I hope the Catholic school wins it. lol

Caldwell, Glasgow, Murray are all gonna be strong contenders. Not sure how good Desales will be with the loss of Roush and Byrd.
04-18-2014, 01:21 PM
In 2A East.
1. NCC
2. Prestonsburg
3. Somerset
4. Middlesboro
5 Danville
6. Leslie County

If Prestonsburg is the 2nd best in the East then 2A football is very weak.
04-18-2014, 08:42 PM
I think I would list Prestonsburg maybe 6th, certainly not at 2.

In the East it will be, but I think Prestonsburg is going to be pretty tough this year and should be the front runner to win that region at this point.

The Colts will be fine. We have plenty of talent to fill in the gaps. Between out JV and Freshman teams we have lost 2 games in 5 years. We've had big classes the last few years, we'll dress over 80 again this year. We had so many blowouts last season a lot of kids got a lot of playing time. We;ll keep rolling. Also when they start on our new stadium that will help get more players, although I suspect we'll have to move to 3A next realignment.

Actually I believe, not 100% sure, DeSales stays in 2A in the drafted 2015 realignment. DeSales biggest advantage in 2A is really numbers. When you can dress 80 guys at the 2A level that's pretty impressive. For the Next 2 season I will think Glasgow will take a step back IMO. The Region will probably come down to DeSales and CAL, depending on what CAL has returning.

From what I have heard Glasgow will be loaded this year. Desales will still be very good but it has to be difficult to replace the two studs they had. I know they return Pirtle and he is very good, especially on D. Wonder if he can carry a Byrd type role and still be the force he was on D. I expect Murray to still be very good but Boone will be tough to replace. O'Cath is kinda a sleeper right now. That is a new role for them that may help them. Caldwell returns a wealth of skill players but loses a bunch of lineman. I also know that Butler will be a better team with a large group of young kids returning.

Yeah I meant after this next realignment. I should have clarified that. I don't think there's anyway we will stay in 2A I think we made it by the skin of our teeth for the 2015 realignment.

Unfortunately, Glasgow will be down this year. Glasgow returns one starter on offense (Quez Trigg) and 3 starters on defense. Granted Trigg has several D1 offers, but he will be running behind Sophomores & Freshmen on the line...very hard to do at any level. The QB & WR's have zero varsity experience. They will have a lot of athletic players that have played defense, but lack experienced size and strength. Glasgow will be a couple of years away from another run.

Trigg is a good one. He gave us fits. Glasgow should have beaten us last year. You guys had us. It was just one of those things. It's a great place to watch a game. We have enjoyed going down there the last two years. Maybe this year you guys can come to Louisville to play us. lol I don't want to have to go down there a third straight year..

2. NCC (What can you say? They are always there.)
3. Caldwell (I actually hope they can beat Murray this year. We want to play them. Pirtle will give you guys fits. He's D1 and gets into the backfield a lot.)
4. CAL ( Lost Christmas, but they will still be pretty good. LeFors is a great coach.)
5. Glasgow ( Has probably the best total back of all of us in Trigg. Kid can play. He'll keep them in a lot of games.)
6. Everybody Else.
I just don't put much stock in the teams from the east. Other than NCC. I know Somerset lost a lot, so not sure what kind of damage they can do this year. Middlesboro, Prestonburg, I'm sure you have nice teams, But the teams from the West are so battle tested on their way to the playoffs.

ColtPride, I appreciate the compliment. Just wish that game would have been played at WKU, it was definitely worthy of being a championship game. Glad you all were able to bring home the trophy.

I will take a not-so-well-informed crack at it:
1. Caldwell County- Return a ton off a team most thought was the best team in 2A most of the season
2. NewCath- Always strong.. last year was supposed to be a reloading year
3. DeSales- The defending champs take some huge hits..but still should be very stout
4. CAL- Was right alongside DeSales all season last year
5. Bardstown- Really good young athletes last year..how will the loss fo Chuck Smith hurt them from a coaching standpoint?
6. Glasgow- Solid team with a lot back
7. Middlebsoro- Return nearly everyone..how will the coaching carousel affect them
8. Pburg- Return a host of talent off a team who really came of age last year
9. Murray- Peaked at the right time but substantial losses on the field and on the sideline
10. Somerset- Jumpers have to replace some strong Senior talent and playmakers

I like your not so well informed crack at it. I think any of the 10 teams you mentioned could have a shot a bringing a trophy home. I don't think all classes could say they have 10 teams on that level. Definitely makes for an interesting season.

watched the game live I agree GREAT ball game. Trigg put on a show, only to be out done by DeSales QB. Glasgow will be down but Trigg will make them a treat. 2A is probably the deepest class when it comes to number of teams that can make a run year in and year out.

I'm not saying they will represent the east, but 8th? Defensively they will be as strong as last year and offensively will have an extremely effective ground game. The oline returns 3 starters all of whom could play for any team in Nky. Same receivers as last year minus Donnely and Lyon, but overall more experience. This team will have more speed than last year's finalist and extremely hard nosed. There's a lot of chatter about P-burg, but they better be careful what they wish for.nicker:

You scared me for a minute! I thought I was going to have to sign you up for Obamacare in order to improve your medication. On a serious note, I do think Somerset is the team to beat in the mountains. I also think Desales is the team to beat in the west. There is too much talent going to Desales instead of Trinity and St X. Caldwell laid an egg last year and only gets props because of Sindelar. He is a fantastic Qb, but I believe they missed their window of opportunity the last two years. Talk up north is Walton Verona is feeling good about their chances of coming out of this area, so I guess only time will tell. IMO NCC will be in the thick of things for the next couple of years. They have some quality underclassmen coming up, so I don't see the well running dry.
04-24-2014, 06:16 AM
I think Caldwell will drop this year. They lost that line. That was the problem when they played us 2 years ago. They could not stop our line and Sindelar was on the run on every play. He is much less productive when on the run, as would any other qb become. I think that will play big into the success of the Tigers this year.

If that's the case, then I like our chances. Our D-Line along with having Pirtle on the end, who is a sack machine should give them fits. We have our Brown and White game tomorrow. I really like what I see from this team. Nord our QB is a big bruiser who can throw, and run. He's a good one, he was just behind a senior in Roush. The team looks hard nose, and well disciplined. They have a great work ethic.
04-24-2014, 01:08 PM
Caldwell lost 3 o-lineman. The whole d-line returns. The lineman they lost will be tough to replace but they have some decent youngsters to replace them. They won't be as big though. The Mayfield D-lineman that caused them problems 2 yrs ago graduated. Trent Kendall.
04-24-2014, 03:05 PM
Pirtle is an excellent player. How much of an increased load will he see on offense? He's very tough but you don't see a lot of defensive ends also carrying the ball 20 times a game.
Is the Nord kid the one that played fullback the past two years? #12?
He is a tough kid as well. Not as fast as Roush though. That Roush kid could pull it down and c-ya.
I remember them also having a bowling ball RB #32. I bet he takes the main RB role.
