The bunch from Hazard have gotten to where they are a program. They will be in the running every year.
I don't think I have really been that bold. I just think we are setting pretty for a few years to come.

1A in the west looks very week this year Mayfield also. And hazard want be in the running this year Mysonis55. Mayfield will never get to play hazard again in 1A. :Sad04: Happy hunting in 2A 2015...My hometown will be waiting Leslie County.

And keep churning out those rifles to keep us free west ky.

Nuclear power is far superior to coal. Maybe that it what the secrete is 64.
06-19-2014, 12:18 PM
Someone needs to explain to 64 that ncc, and somerset are still going to be in 2a come 2015, and they will be in the east still. Leslie county better get some nuclear waste down there if they expect to beat those teams. 64 needs his head checked. 55 you should send him a canister of nuclear waste for christmas this year. Im getting antsy for some football, or at least some more good news from 55, if you dont have any make some up to make me feel better.

If I sent him some nuclear waste he would eat it. Or use it to make that da** you got served sign stand out more.

I just heard that the kid that I was talking about being a track star, will for sure be playing football. I have been told he is VERY VERY fast. When Mayfield people are talking fast, that means something. He is most likely going to be a wr.

Sounds good to me, between usain bolt, jordan tyler, trajon bright this might be the most speed ive seen at mayfield, but i hadnt ever seen mayfield play till 05, so i dont have alot of years to compare to.

Yes i seen mayfield i think 3 times that year the one that i remember the most was the beat down on crittenden in the playoffs. Rust was packing defenders ten yards. I was suprised they beat them like that cause a buddy from crittenden kept talking how good they were. I bought what he was saying cause i seen marshall beat mayfield pretty good early in the season, maybe mayfield got better after that game, but after they beat crittenden like that i thought they would take it, i didnt see title game but the 05 ncc team must have been pretty dang good.

In that game we took the opening kickoff and started from our 20. This was the old school offense. They took the ball like typical Mayfield and worked the ball down the field inside NCC 20. Blake fumbled and they got it. Our boys looked like they just quit. NCC had a great passing game in the cold rain and just passed it around like they were on a video game.

Yeah I knew they got slaughtered, I worked with a guy from may field, and we both thought they would win. I didn't listen to the game, but remember being in shock when I asked him who won and he told me the score. He claimed they got drunk the night before the game.

Let's just say their were some players that were not there for the game in a sense.

The Mayfield Cardinals finished the 2013 season as the state champions in 1a, with a record of 14-1. That 1 loss came to a then ranked #1 Caldwell Co of 2a by 7 points in Caldwell. While the Cardinals lost a very large senior class, they have lots still left in cupboard. The Cardinals 42 players from the 2013 roster returning. Out of those 42 returning 13 of them either started or saw a good amount of varsity playing time in the 2013 campaign. The other factor is that the reserves had to practice against the state champions for about 5 months.
The Cardinals return 3 of their top 5 receivers from last year. They have Lane Kennemore who had 542 receiving yards and Marshall Bacon who had 494 receiving yards. They also get Jordan Tyler back from Graves County. Jordan was one of the back up running backs to Jonathan Jackson in 2012. He moved and transferred to Graves County for the 2013 season. They also have Trajon Bright, who ran a 91 yard touchdown in the state championship game.
The question marks for the Cardinals this year are:
Can they replace the long standing Guhy tradition at qb?
Can they replace the 4 offensive linemen lost to graduation?
Can they replace the newly departed offensive coordinator?
The first question will be replaced in the following manner. The job will be entrusted to soph qb Landon Arnett. While the young Arnett may not have the arm and the experience of the older Guhy, he does have a set of wheels on him and is an intelligent kid. The other portion of this game plan is the back up of Lane Kennemore. If Arnett needs another year to develop, Kennemore will step in to that role. Kennemore is another headsy kid with great wheels and strong arm. Kennemore playing in that role would cause someone else to have to step up at receiver though. I feel like the young Arnett will rise to the occasion and this second scenario will not be necessary.
The answer to the second question is, "we are Mayfield". We always replace linemen. That is one of the strengths of the system. I recently spoke with one of the coaches, who said that our line this year will be bigger than the line of 2013.
The answer to the last question is a little more complicated. You do not replace a great mind like Hatchell at offensive coordinator. The solution is that Head Coach Joe Morris never was far from that roll. According to players and coaches alike, they advise that Joe was calling a big portion of the plays and the changes during games. This is so much the case that it is my understanding that they intend to hire a qb coach instead of offensive coordinator.
With all of this said, it would appear that the Cardinals should make another great run towards their ultimate goal of an 11th state championship. I feel as though the Cards may take a lump or 2 during the regular season to some out of class teams. They should have the system figured out by the time they start the district play and roll on in a usual manner.

I would have to put Mayfield number1 until someone knocks them off.
06-21-2014, 10:25 PM
We are young. We should know within first four weeks.
06-22-2014, 12:13 AM
Mayfield is # 1 until a class a team beats them..
06-22-2014, 10:36 AM
I think we will be fine if our new qb can get the ball to the receivers. We will have more speed than any of our teams since 2010.
06-22-2014, 01:46 PM
What's the fastest may field team you remember seeing.
06-22-2014, 02:46 PM
2010 if you are talking across the board. Even the linemen in that group were back fast. I think we are about there again. 2002 was pretty fast as well.
06-22-2014, 03:05 PM
I thought the 09 team was pretty fast I'm surprised that senior class never won a title, but I'm just talking from a skill position standpoint.
06-22-2014, 03:31 PM
Attitude was the problem. We would have been able to compete better in that game if not for the injuries. Xavier Shelton had a pulled hamstring. Jonathan Jackson had a severely twisted ankle. There was 1 or 2 more injuries as well. I don't know that we would have beaten lca but it would have been a better game.

I remember seeing PT win 3a that year. We were setting with PT fans during that game. They were confident that we were going to shell LCA. Then we went out at took it on the chin. That was a good year for far west Ky. We had PT win 3a, Fort Campbell win 2a and Mayfield there in 1a and Lone Oak almost win 4a. 3 of those teams were within 30 min of each other. The 4th is on about 1 hr away. Then Union City, only 45 min away, won 1a in Tn.

Just goes to show you that there are years a smaller class might be stronger than a class thats bigger, but i wouldnt say that was the norm. Like this year bowling green might have been the best in the state , but normally it is trinity.

That was a fun year.

I don't like that flavor.

Got word of another great transfer. Just what the doctor ordered.
