Pre-Season Mountain Top 10
Johnson Central is very good, they are stuck in a class with Ft. Thomas and Cov. Cath or would have won the state in 5A. I remember a Bell Co team that lost to ft. Thomas and Cov Cath or may have won 5 or 6 state title. Johnson Central may be at the top right now! My point is that Belfry and JC are better than Pulaski.

The best team in the state was in class 5A. So JC had no chance to win in 5A. I think the gap is very narrow between the 3, but I would have Pulaski above Belfry and JC. But you cant overlook the coaching advantage that a Belfry and JC might have.
EKUAlum05 Wrote:JC lost their entire backfield and their top two defensive players in addition to all the other lost by graduation.

JC will still field a fine team as Matney has built that program to the point they are able to do interchangeable parts.

Belfry also was a different animal once they got healthy in November. JC still probably would have beat them, they were simply the better team, but a Belfry/JC game when the Pirates were healthy would have looked more along the lines of 38-28 or 28-21 IMHO.

Fair assesmant belfry does have a great program, and im sure it will continue. I was alittle suprised when they pulled away from harlan co, and was also when johnson central pulled away from them. They both seemed to be pretty competitive games until late from the update threads. Kinda reminded me of the mayfield/graves co game very competitive then mayfield ran away from them in the 4th. Heck id love to check out a belfry game against harlan co or johnson central if i wasnt so far away.

Harlan County had a solid team, but they simply weren't in the same class as Belfry and JC last year. HC played too many people both ways and they weren't used to teams who could mach their physicality while "out-athleting" them.

The Belfry JC game was simply a case of Belfry getting absolutely whipped at the LB level and having no answers for it. The Pirates were without Austin Hatfield and the Eagles also matched up well with Belfry's undersized Hayden Hatfield who usually dominated teams with his quickness at DT. Hatfield never could get free to disrupt plays and the Eagles simply dominated Befry's LB's.

Belfry was able to sustain offensive success and was going blow for blow with the Eagles for a while. Belfry then had some self destructive plays on offense that resulted n turnovers and once JC got a big lead and the Pirates were unable to stop them things simply snowballed. Belfry was forced to go away from their base offense and the Eagles made them pay. In typical Haywood fashion he conceded defeat to the better team and pulled his Starters and the reserves from both teams then played out the stretch.

With Hatfield back Belfry was a different monster on Offense and Defense,,, but even then it doesn't eliminate the fact JC manhandled Belfry up front and still would have put enough points on the board to win. Think you wouldn't see as many home run big plays, but the Eagles would have been able to beat Belfry with long drives taking what they could get from the surge.

I'm not a fan of either but have to disagree with that Smile
JC and Matney's teams in general always match-up well with Belfry. The 3 back belly stuff he runs is hard to stop in the Belfry D. Could possibly be the only weakness of the defense. Spread the LOS with huge splits and make LB'ers make decisions and tackle in space. It is very tough on any defense. Ask CovCath and HHS.

You're a clown.

I'm not sure about the other two, but in the words of my favorite WWE superstar... If you think Andrew Fletcher lives in WV I'm afraid I've got some bad news.

The only thing about you that gets under my skin is you constantly referring to Pikeville as a JV team and stuff like that. Most rational Pikeville fans give Belfry their due (notice I said most). Great program, but Pikeville is not too shabby either. I'm old enough to remember when Belfry struggled to beat Pikeville and the numbers just finally caught up with us. But year in and year out, these are the two top teams in Pike County, and traditionally among the top teams in the mountains. It's been that way since the 70's easily. Anyway, as I said, good luck to Belfry and your son.
Would Pulaski, Southwestern, Wayne County, and Somerset be considered a Mt. team?
topnotch Wrote:Would Pulaski, Southwestern, Wayne County, and Somerset be considered a Mt. team?

Pulaski County is part of the WYMT Coverage area which is why they are considered mountain teams. Wayne County has never been considered part of it.
Thanks EKU. I always wondered I guess WYMT pretty much is the determinate factor.
I conncur that the WYMT viewing area is the unwritten rule about what teams/schools are considered "The Mountains"

I know their opening says something to the effect of "Covering Eastern and Southern Kentucky" but that area is the mountains.

Doesn't WYMT stand for We're Your Mountain Television......

Like I said man I was cutting up with ya...Pikeville is turning it around they have some talent just can't get it together in some pieces, but I think in all its coming together..I think this year and next year pending no key injuries is your best shot at BG...I was just saying you guys are JV because your playing ours by the 3rd QTR...I still will buy ya hot dog and give us a hug I'm just that type a guy I cut up a lot...thanks for the good luck for my boy, actually him Jordan Scott and Cody Estepp went to a Combine this year together...good luck to anyone you have on Pikevilles team..
Now with Chapman gone I wonder what kids if any jump ship to Pikeville and Belfry...

Yes, realistically you are a clown if you dont think Pulaski would score at least 50. probably more but at least 50:Thumbs:

Pulaski is in the coverage area ,but Wayne County is actually more mountainous than Pulaski.
Could Williamsburg, a 1A team be #1 in the mtns??!

I think 1A Hazard was 3 years ago. I think williamsburg will stay around #5 all year....just sayin :Cheerlead
pjdoug Wrote:Pulaski is in the coverage area ,but Wayne County is actually more mountainous than Pulaski.

The "coverage area" is determined by the number of people in each county that get WYMT. Some people in Wayne and Madison counties can watch WYMT, but there is not enough to consider them a part of the "coverage area." Some people in Pulaski/Rockcastle/Laurel counties consider themselves to be in the Mountains, others don't. I prefer "Coverage Area Top 10" as opposed to "Mountain Top 10" to prevent confusion, but "Coverage Area Top 10" doesn't sound as good.
