A year or two down the roa

Hit the wrong button. A year or two down the road you will be playing JC 7th and 8th grade state champs.

This district should be renamed to the TRTH. The Race To Highlands lol which has no good outcome

Single grade teams don't mean anything. Baker, Obryan and this years Junior class only won a handful of games in middle school and even freshman ball. You can't put stock in one grade teams. You never know how kids will grow and mature.

How are the new transfers doing over there in Kittyland?
06-19-2014, 09:57 AM
Which one? There's a few that have made their way onto this years team.

Too many to list, maybe patchy can help us out. He's a tomcat kind of boy.

So exactly who went to Ashland? Did McPeek enroll at Russell or head to GA with his family? Did they pick up kids from Boyd Co that came went to Fairview? I heard alot of Fairview backfield went other places. If they picked up Brown or Yetts thats going to be a heck of a backfield to deal with.
06-20-2014, 11:52 AM
I've heard the Gobels are doing well...I wonder if the smaller one will be a LB? We know he's not going to see any touches out of the backfield with the kids Ashland has. Was he really a running back at Fairview?
06-20-2014, 01:04 PM
I dont recall a Gobel running theball at Fairview. King, Yetts, Brown, and Dolen were the primary backs. I dont recall hearing his name for running the ball. I take it they didnt recieve any of their backfield.
06-20-2014, 06:36 PM
From what I'm hearing he thinks he's a skill kid, and no. None of the backfield have came over, I've heard they wanted to but can't do it on the up and up and after the Fairview fiasco I'm sure everyone is sticking to the books in regards to transfer rules now.
06-20-2014, 06:51 PM
I didnt think Gobel was. Looks like e could make a good LB.

Wonder how Dicky Martin will address the transfers? Didn't they receive Ironton ones last year?

I'm pretty sure Dick is ok with it as long as they transfer to the Tomkittens.

Dicky lives by FDR's motto..."You never get indigestion, from eating your own words"...
He has always suffed from foot in mouth disease.

Ashland is in the Mountains, I lived out in the western part of the U.S. as well as living in Ashland and I would go as far to say most of the schools in eastern and central part of the state are mountain schools.

Belfrey, Johnson Central, and George Washington(WV) are probably the only and closest thing to, mountain teams. Highlands is due to fall from grace eventually, they have completely dominated over the last decade and a half. At some point they will either slow down, have an off year, or others will begin to close the gap, there are seceral contributing factors to that. As I have always said, its just a matter of time before all these schools in NEKY end up having to consolidate or go private. but Ashlandbeiń a 5A school, itd be hard to see them absorbing Boyd and Fairview. One would think any consolidations would be bringing those three together and Greenup/Russell/Raceland together. Id hate to see all of those log standing rivalries come to an end though. Russell is on the rise again and Ashland seems to be doing the little things to keep themselves in the thick of it in their district. Next year is a ver important year for Ashland, IMO. They hae two good games right at the get go though vs NCC then the following week against Raceland.

I wasn't trying to be flippant, sorry if it came over that way. I just thought Ashland was more of a mountain team, probably more than the schools in Pulaski Co.

Ashland will be explosive on offense and a lot better in the 2nd year in the pistol! Defense should be improved also, need OL to block just a little should be a great season! New stadium and no more Ashland Blazer! It's Ashland High School and Ashland Middle School no more Verity Middle and Paul G Blazer High School ( Ashland Blazer)

^ Why the name change?
06-28-2014, 09:55 AM
Board decided it was time to change the names of both they did get feedback from the community before deciding to do it. Will end some confusion with people not familiar with our town or area. 6th graders getting ready to move to middle school next year with have same colors in both schools now also.

You think they'll stick with that pistol flexbone crap they tried last year? And what to you all see the W-L columns looking like this year?
06-28-2014, 09:56 PM
Who knows about the Raceland game, depends on what Raceland puts out i the way of Lineman. Other than that, I think possible losses to GW, NCC, and probably to JC. Anywhere from 9-1 to 7-3. 2nd in the district...go to highlands. Wah wah wah
06-28-2014, 10:30 PM
This team if healthy and comes together could win them all but time will tell. 2nd year Head Coach and 2nd year in the pistol should be a lot more polished. Ashland should average 40 plus points a game and will have 2 of the fastest backs in the state!!
06-29-2014, 01:22 AM
Ashland should be a tough out for anyone. We will know where they stand after they have a tough first 4 games. NCC will be ready, Raceland has proved they can hang with Ashland for atleast a half any given year and give ashland a game in most, the game is more of a measuring stick for the Rams though. GW will be a tough contest as always and Russell will be hungry and I have a feeling wont go through many growing pains under the new HC. Our area should be full of serious playoff contenders. JC/Ashland, Raceland, and Russell may all very well make some serious runs this year.

Heard the Tomcats looked really good defensively today while they were getting ready for the passing scrimmage this weekend. Both DBs looked like D1 corners. Both were around 6'2" with long arms and in great shape.

No , he was not a RB at Fairview . He was a role player on D as a LB . He didnt play down . The bigger one was a starting center for Fairview
07-10-2014, 05:28 PM
I see, he came over wanting to be a starting LB and RB and while he might play some at LB there's not a chance he would be in the backfield with the speed Ashland has this year.

From the talk around town Ashland should do big things..are they really going to be that talented? Highlands is still the end of the line for at least one more year I would imagine.
