Could turf mean state finals at Commonwealth?
#1
I didn't see a thread on this if there is one already I apologize.

This week Coach Stoops announced plans to move Commonwealth Stadium to synthetic turf before the 2015 season. While it is a good move for the university this could mean a moment in time I've personally waited for; state finals move to Commonwealth. While no decision has been made or even plans discussed, how would you feel about the move. It would cut down on drive times for everyone here in the mountains and better parking, although it might be to big.

I would like to see it at commonwealth period..

I could see it landing at Commonwealth Stadium in the near future. However, despite the more centralized location than Bowling Green or Louisville, I do not think it is a good venue to host the state finals. Commonwealth is just too large. I think EKU would be a great venue to host the finals, centralized location, close to Lexington, and a stadium large enough to hold the crowds but small enough where it won't feel empty.
Or Kentucky could do the same as North Carolina, hold the finals at 3 different locations every year, playing 2 games at each location.

I think with the strides this UK staff is making in-state to make connections it is a great possibility. I would love it. Bowling green is nice but not a lot to do. Most schools that make the finals are closer to lex than bg on most years.
#6
I like for it to be at one location each year because high school football fans like to attend all the games but I think EKU would be a ideal site as well. I wouldn't mind them rotating it between, UK, Louisville, WKU, and EKU.

Yes. Good ploy by University personal to get more instate talent, Maybe Harris, into commonwealth.

God, I hope not!!! We are talking about football. It never gets played there.

Hang on Mysonis55 Kentucky is moving in the right direction. :please:

They've been moving in the right direction since 1990. I don't know when they will ever arrive there.
#11
I would love to see the state finals at Common Wealth. But I also agree at EKU because it is basically the center of the state small enough to provide a good atomosphere.
#12
Not like my opinion matters but I would love to see it moved to Lexington. I would start going to the finals again.
#13
^ I agree with bear claw if it's moved to Lexington I would start going again as well, WKU is just way to far for most people in the mountains to drive. I would be willing to bet if it had been at lex the last few years there would have been even more people than what's been at WKU. Look how good teams like belfry travel could you imagine how many belfry fans would have been at Lexington? Plus it's just easier to get to from any where like I've always heard growing up all roads lead to Lexington!!!

Let's hope this is something that gets done in the near future.

When they get there it will be with little help from the West.:Thumbs:

Please, yes, move it to Lexington. I'll begin saving PTO for it this week!

UK would be foolish not to make it happen...

I would give anything to see it at Lexington, where it should be.
Personally, I hate turf and don't think it should be allowed, but 6 games in two days is not possible on grass in December.

Anything to get it out of Bowling Green, where I currently am BTW, and definitely not loserville.

GUT, I try to not like you but you make sense once in every other 100 post.Confusednicker:

How many fewer Mayfield, PT, Caldwell or Fort Campbell fans would miss if it were at EKU. Same problem no matter where. Get used to it. It is staying at WKU.
#19
I think if they could alternate it between Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky every other year then that would be the most fair.
If you have it at one side of the state in the same place then you are cheating one side every year. I say heck no to Louisville and UK, both of those stadiums are way to big
#20
As many years as they have had it at Papa Johns and Western Kentucky and the teams from the east doing all that traveling I think it's about time the east got something.
#21
It would be nice to see the finals in a more Central location
#22
It don't matter what you say it will stay. They have a good deal with WKU and they like it. As long as WKU wants to keep it , it will stay. We have this same discussion year after year in one thread or another. You don't have to like it, you don't have to like what I say but, it is staying. I just think it is useless to keep bringing it up.
#23
This would be awesome. Possibly more attendance for the state games.
#24
When it comes back up for bid look for Lexington to make a push. I think 2017? Bowling green was the only serious entry last time. UL could not promise the dates.
#25
While I get your argument Myson, I think this is the first time there has been a legitimate argument for it. In years past there was absolutely no way UK Afmin were going to allow it do to the natural grass but with syn. turf Commonwealth would become a viable option. I say do 1A - 3A at EKU then 4a - 6a at Comm. Play EKU games on a Friday others on Saturday and sale two session tickets or complete state finals tickets. Fair enough?

There are 2 threads that are sure to show up every year. One is the complaints about how many classes there are and how many there should be. The other is this subject. Neither of which are going to change. I think we would be time and energy ahead to give it up. The khsaa is not going to listen to a bunch of us old fat guys complaining on here. It is what it is. I don't think UK would ever go for it anyway. They are a basketball only school and do not want to encourage football in Ky.
#27
Last time I checked but Lexington was considered "CENTRAL" KY. You have to agree that Commonwealth is the right place for a State Championship! I have hoped for this for the past 30 years. Please Coach make this happen! You are besides Coach Cal are the most influential person in the blue grass. You have breathed life back into Kentucky football. Please make this happen for high school football. You are the only one in this state to get this done.
