Hey James Odom, bring your mythical team down here to Harlan County and play my mythical team "the Homes' Mill Rednecks and we will kick your ass and then we will shake hands and smoke the wacky stuff you are on and we will bring some moonshine and we can have us just a good ole hoe down. But remember as the great Brad Paisley once said" YOU WILL NEVER LEAVE HARLAN ALIVE".

Granny, give us an update on how practice is going? What has Baby Zak said? What are our numbers? Any no shows? Any surprises?

Well I have been forbidden by my husband to mention Baby Zak anymore. He's afraid I'm gonna run my mouth to the point of getting his ass kicked!

I will say this... practice is great. Scott Bailey stopped by for pictures the other day (can you imagine how he must've felt, but he did it anyway), and got a good picture of Zak puking up his guts. LOL Our numbers are great, just added 2 this week actually. I haven't heard anything about no shows or surprises. Zak thinks this year's team is a hard working group and they all get along great. So add that to the talents of the coaching staff, and I am one excited mamaw!!!
GO BLACK BEARS!!!

How did the bears do in the union college 7-7
07-18-2014, 09:57 PM
I think the Black Bears went 2-3 with wins over Bell and Pineville and losses to SW, Knox Cent, and the winner North Laurel. Thank goodness we don't depend on the pass. Passing is just for pre-game

Im not sure we could put together an all star team of the three Whitley schools and beat Bowling Green or Warren Central. These guys look good. Im sure wed be competitive, but speed kills. I have two coworkers who have boys that play for BG. Im going to check out some of the major differences in the way things are done.
Speed is one thing weve lacked for years. Theres a difference in being fast, and being quick.
07-19-2014, 10:02 PM
I think the difference in speed is pretty self explanatory?? Much like the difference in speed between bowling green and Miami. Better athletes mean more speed. Not necessarily better football players or harder workers but more speed.

speed kills but it all comes down to good coaching.

Can anyone give me an update on how things are going?
07-21-2014, 11:17 PM
If I were a coach and had the magical advantage of a video game and could only advance one thing, it would be speed. You know how you can edit players abilities in football games? That would be what I went for.
Watch what Harris does to Whitley this year. That's the type of difference im talking about. Those players are few and far between in this state, but in other places its the norm. The only thing that even combats that a little bit is a very well rounded team that is smart enough to play there positions and not get out of there lanes.

Zak loves this team. I don't know how objective he is, but it sounds to me like they are working hard. We'll be strong this year, and I understand a kid has stepped up to the QB position.
Dunno, we'll see. I cannot wait for Bryan Station!!
Go Black Bears!!!!!
07-22-2014, 02:26 PM
Bryan Station will have tons and tons of speed but them ole mountain boys can win by running straight at them!!!!!
07-22-2014, 03:16 PM
That is so very true. They will have speed out the wazoo and we will be very physical. I can't wait! Thanks Granny for the update. My gosh is it game day yet?

Is Ford really stepping up or has someone else stepped up?
07-22-2014, 04:22 PM
I think both. The junior to be Ford is really looking good and the freshman Branson is not to far behind. Talked to a buddy of mine today and he said we might be better up front across the board since the school opened. The question mark will be the skill positions. Very, Very young but very talented. LB's and secondary will be VERY young on the defensive side. He also told me this freshmen class is a special bunch. I guess we will see. Go Black Bears!
