I do believe if Baker would go to UK he would be more like a Derrick Abney type player. Punt and kickoff returns. That's not a slam either. Abney was electric when he got the ball. Just don't think Baker could take the beatings as an SEC RB.

I agree, but in the system they use he'll be a slot type player or in a rotation of running backs.

He Dad has told me (Q Bakers) that he is a better DB then anything might see him as punt returner and DB!! Kid knows how to hit!!
07-21-2014, 02:42 PM
I wonder why he doesn't play that at Ashland then? I guess they're afraid of losing him, but babying him isn't going to help him down the road.
07-21-2014, 02:59 PM
Yea got to remember this is just his jr season. During close games last year in the final few minutes they put him at DB. I think they don't want to wear him out. Look to see him play more on the defensive side of the ball this year maybe at safety and or corner.
07-21-2014, 04:54 PM
Yeah that's true, I think the community forgets he's so young at times. I do think he would be a good safety. I heard the Long kid is looking really good at CB. Is there any other news about any of the other kids? How are they coming along as a unit?
07-21-2014, 05:18 PM
I went and watched them practice today, they have size on the line looks pretty athletic and skill guys look quick good size. I think these could be a very dangerous team if they can put it all together.

clay goble, new lineman transfer from Fairview has already broken the old Ashland bench press record. he set that the first day he was there. he and his brother are good kids and players. best of luck to those two!
07-21-2014, 05:27 PM
What is he benching? I would imagine the record would be a lot with the players that have went there...Arlis, Juan Thomas, Trent Hardy, Holbrook...that's just recent memory. I'm sure there are more.
07-21-2014, 06:19 PM
405
07-21-2014, 09:14 PM
Records must be a new thing. Many older players have benched over 400.
07-22-2014, 06:20 AM
I'm pretty sure they do it by weight class now...Malik Massey wasn't the strongest guy or the biggest but he has a few records there because of the amount he could lift compared to his size.

If I were the OC or HC and i had two backs like I do in Baker and Long, I think i wouldkeep them fresh and only have them both on the field in spells. Use one at CB/S and the other at RB. Having the ability to keep guys fresh, especially RB pays off huge. Especially late in the season. If Princehas developed as a passer, using them in the slot wr position and screen game could be a big factor as well. Is Prince a Jr this year?
07-22-2014, 11:35 AM
prince is a senior
07-22-2014, 11:58 AM
I know this is a 2014 thread but if Prince is a senior I wonder who is going to step in next year, as that is Baker and Longs senior season and first year without Highlands or Cov Cath.
07-22-2014, 12:04 PM
If they dont have a pure passer, I wouldnt be suprised to see them put Long and Baker back there in the Widcat.
07-22-2014, 02:03 PM
I don't know if you can make a deep run using that style of offense...back to this years team, anyone know how they looked at EKUs 7on7? I heard they stunk it up at the last one they attended.
07-22-2014, 02:17 PM
This team has 4 studs in the backfield they will be hard to handle whether they throw it or not. Probably see some screens and dump offs to the backs maybe take a deep shot every now and then to keep them honest. If the line can block they will be dominant. Heard they took JV not starters.
07-22-2014, 03:16 PM
Who are the other two studs? They have two more players on Baker and Longs level?
07-22-2014, 03:33 PM
Vaungh the FB and Prince the QB! All 4 will be in the pistol together on any given play. Anyone of them can go the distance! Kid from Portsmouth is 6'2 WR and DB caught everything they threw at him yesterday, and he can keep up with Long so I'm guessing their may be a deep pass or 2 a half toward his way!!!

That doesn't sound very impressive. Neither Corbin nor Leslie County are remotely in the same league with FTH and CovCath. But, then, neither is Ashland. Maybe a reassessment is needed.

Soooo what you're saying is Ft Thomas is good? Hmmm I would've never known if it wasn't for your constant boasting. Thanks for the info Harry!

But back to actual football...that doesn't sound very impressive at all. If you add that to the poor showing at Montgomery I don't think that says much about the teams secondary. I wonder what the deal is? You'd think with all that talent the DB coach would have them looking like the Seahawks out there.

Based upon what i have heard is going on with the roster, doesnt sound as if the team will be very competitive out of district for the Breds. Ashland by 24 this year.
No way NCC loses by 24 this year, actually it might be the other way around. I look for NCC to win 2 possibly 3 of their first 5 against the bigger schools. NCC will be strong up front and fast to the edge, that's what Ashland should worry about. I understand what Baker is all about, but I don't think they are better top to bottom. Yea, NCC is struggling to find a QB right now but the rest of the team is solid.
07-22-2014, 06:12 PM
I don't think Ashland will win by that much, with that said if the defense had any idea on how to tackle last year I think the cats would've pulled that one out and this years game wouldn't be viewed as a toss up in my opinion.
07-22-2014, 06:42 PM
I didn't think the game was a toss up last year. This year will be interesting. If you are NCC, you know Baker is going to get the ball the majority of the time. If you are Ashland, you're crazy if you don't give him the ball because of his ability. That being said, I don't think Ashland knows who to focus on for NCC that's why the Breds win this one. Shut down Baker, shut down Ashland. NCC will be very good defensively with most defenders returning last year and several upgrades at linebacker. I'm not saying it will be a cake walk especially with all the hype of the new field, but I don't think Ashland can out gun the Breds.

Ashland's line play will dictate how this season is going to go. I've heard good things so far. I'm not to worried about the 7 on 7 games Ashland isn't a passing team and Our DBs will be fine. Let's see how they scrimmage. New stadium and it will be packed, Ashland will Win the opening game, but I don't even think it will be by 24.

Sorry, Club17. But, from the tenure of many of these posts, I thought a little reality needed to be inserted. I realize that all are undefeated in July but truth takes over when you reach November. Therefore, I thought a little reminder of reality in July might be prudent.
As for "boasting", I believe the record indicates that it is, instead, fact. Some blow in July, others perform in the playoffs.

Harry we all know FTH is the King of 4A but losing last season to Collins and Your head coach quits and hearing your best player transfers, their could be a few chinks in the armor of the mighty Blue Birds!
