Mayfield has been a nightmare for beechwood for the past five years or so, with the exception of last year. Beechwood did get within a touchdown in 02' when mayfield won it. I do think beechwood has the best chance of anyone this year against mayfield, but I don't see mayfield dropping any this seasons. Good luck against them next year. Ive only seen mayfield play a handful of times, but I'll never forget the first time. The 1976 state championship when mayfield was playing in 2A and Corbin beat them in an awesome game. Mayfield got them back in the following year's state championship and I think mayfield won the year after that as well. I still to this day think the 76' and 77' state championship games between mayfield and Corbin were two of the best state title games I've seen. Both games combined were decided by 7 points, and 76' was the first year they ever held the games at commonwealth stadium.

95, we beat Beechwood by 1 point at state.
02, we played a little too close and won by 7 at state.
09, we crushed them in the semis.
10, we beat them by 3 td's.
11, we slid by with a 4 point win in semis.
12, we got em again by 3 td's in the semis.
We missed them last year.

If may field held crier to 93 on about 30 carries I'm quite certain the burg will have to go to the air, cause he won't get much on this d.

R C Thomas was the difference in 76, I was very young but he scared me to death and I wasn't playing. Shame the way his life turned out but man he was special on the football field that day

In 76, I remember sitting in the stands at Commonwealth watching the 1a championship game before the Corbin/Mayfield game. I was freezing and shivering cold and the Corbin players were sitting just below me before they went into the locker room to dress. I remember a couple of there guys with full beards that looked like they were 25 years old. One stood out because he was huge and had on a tank top and some cannons for arms and looked like he was ready for war, almost frothing at the mouth and the look on his face was one where you knew you better not say anything to him or he'd take your head off. A very intimidating presence for sure. That was RC. Talking about looking like a player coming off the bus. wow. Of course, he backed it up with his play on the field. Had about 20 tackles, 3-4 sacks and half those tackles were for a loss.

I was 10 then. That was one of the years my mom had me living in Tx. I was watching my big bro win a state championship there, so I don't know anything about that. It's a shame we didn't win a few of those state championships where we lost by 1-3 points. I know we had a lot of close ones. Of course we won several real close ones.

Aamzing to me that 95% of the comments here have nothing to do with the game or any kind of insight to what might happen in this game.
I think that Beechwood will be a tough out because of their speed and they have a mobile QB and they have a huge line. Mayfield will have to play their best game and not get behind early and play catch up. I like a score of 21-10 Cards.

Our best game of the season will remain McCracken Co. It will be hard to top that.

That is the second half of that game.

As an outsider watching from a distance, there is something very comforting about these two teams meeting this deep in the playoffs. Beechwood and Mayfield should be contractually obligated to play every year on or around Thanksgiving.
As much as I love parity it's always great to see traditional powers square off in the playoffs. These two programs are small only in enrollment... true giants of KY High School Football.
I will follow this game on Friday with great interest as it might be their last meeting for a while.
