It's a N Ky team. That's what happened

Did something happen with Baker?
#6
He apparently got his equipment on and came into the game with 6 minutes to play. He couldn't help them score, though, as they threw another interception to end the drive he was in on. Then he got ejected from the game.

I really don't understand putting him in the game at that point anyway.

As I said earlier in the year, Ashland wouldn't make it past 2nd round. Talent can only take you so far, you must also have coaching, and they don't have any !

What did Q do to get ejected?

Whew! Rough night for the Tomcats and everyone else in our little neck of the woods. Fairview; Russell; Raceland and Ashland all rolling out the roundballs now.

Congrats Scott Co on a unreal comeback. Best of luck the rest of the way.

It's nice to read the Ashland haters are still alive and pumping the diatribe with such enthusiasm...it's one sure sign the Tomcats are still relevant in the minds of others. If the happiness of our opponents starts to die down when Ashland loses, I will know we are slipping in stature. Until that occurs.....see you guys next year.

Yeah, you got that right. Message board relevance is all Ash-Land has going for them at the moment.

For real.... I wanted to see Ashland win.

- JC would be home next weekend.
- We would have got to beat Ashland again.
- A one-way, 3 hour drive, isn't gonna be fun.

Best part about going to NKY.... getting to eat LaRosa's pizza!!!

You miss the point completely. Ashland is no more "relevant" to most football observers than are scores of other teams. Unlike Highlands and Trinity, who are disliked because they win so much, Ashland is disliked because its fans are, though without success, so arrogant.

It is fine to blow but, to avoid ridicule, you better be able to back it up. Ashland never backs up all the hot air.

All digging aside, it would be informative for Ashland fans to answer a few sincere questions:

1. How do you jump out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter and lose 28-18?
2. Just exactly what is the nature of and extent of Baker's injury? If he played a little why couldn't he play more?
3. Assuming O'Bryan was unable to play, why does that really make much difference in the outcome of the game?
4. Baker's last act as a high school player was to be ejected from the game? What did he do?
5. A few Ashland posters have hinted around all season that Baker is a discipline problem and his ejection tends to add a bit of evidence to that effect. Now that the season is over for Ashland and Baker, will one or more of you "Tomcats" come clean and reveal the facts? Marshall University needs to know. don't you think?
6. Finally, will your basketball team really be much improved over last year's disaster?

WOW, how things change in 4 weeks. When Ashland was 8-0 and ranked #3 in 4A you would have thought that Ashland football was the greatest thing since sliced bread in the eyes of their fans. A close loss to Central, a loss to a 6A school and a road playoff loss can sure turn a fan base and it is coming from a lot more fans than just one. Congrats to the players and staff of a very good season.

How come Ashland never took a knee for a injured player on the field? ( even their own player )
Faking a injury to stop the clock in the final seconds was both hilarious and embarrassing.
Why in the world would you put a kid to hurt to play, in at the end of the game? That seems to be a very questionable coaching call at best.

I'm not necessarily an "Ashland fan" but rather a fan of high school sports in our NEKY area. I'll try to comment on some of your questions, though.

Ashland's biggest problem all year was the lack of a consistent QB and passing game. This was evident last night. When things got tight, the starter threw an interception after Ashland had driven the field trying to come back. Ashland got the ball back, drove the field again, and tried a halfback pass which was intercepted. They didn't have faith in the starting QB. Ashland got the ball back again and put in the freshman QB who many thought should have been the starter all season. That seemed to be another act of desperation and unfair to the freshman to put him in with little time to play needing a miracle comeback. He threw an interception as well. The whole QB situation was handled poorly all year long, never more so, though, than in the final game.

I believe Baker had a sprained ankle. Again, I thought it was a questionable decision to throw him into the game hoping for a miracle with little time to play. I think O'Bryan played, but likely wasn't full speed. He was a very good defensive player this season, but who is to say if a 100% version of him would have made any difference.

Baker did show an attitude at several points during the season drawing some personal fouls and unsportsmanlike penalties. He also reportedly got into a fight at another teams scrimmage prior to the season. As far as Marshall knowing what they are getting, have you followed Marshall football over the past decade? This type of behavior will fit right in. On a serious note, though, hopefully he cleans it up because he does have an immense amount of talent. Hate to see a local product go down the wrong road.

Ashland basketball should be improved. There's nowhere to go but up from the terrible season they played last year, right?

Good post by nekysportsfan. Very diplomatic. It would be nice to hear from Ashland's usual cheerleaders but I assume none of them returned from Covington.

As an Ashland fan there is so much that could be said that is better left alone. Congratulations to Scott on the win. I was impressed with the resiliency of the team after digging themselves a hole. They fully deserve to be playing next Friday. The coaches were confident of their decisions and stuck to the game plan and the kids bought in and continued to play hard. Good luck next Friday you will see a different animal in Johnson Central they are deserving of all their praise.

Question for the Ashland fans.....

How does Scott compare to JC?

Guys I would never question the nature of a kid's character but I have to ask this question....does it not seem like Baker is always hurt at the end of the year for Ashland's biggest games? It just seems that he has a tendency to be out for the big time games. That's either tough luck or something else

I don't think you'll get an answer to that until next year....The annual migration to South America started friday night.

Scott does a good job offensively in their ball handling. Their backs run hard and the QB is accurate when called upon. That being said their numbers aren't great and neither is their line size. They have match up problems with JC size in the trenches and have never seen a team come downhill like JC does. My opinion says it will take them a quarter to adjust to the speed and force of JC offense and will find themselves down two tds in the second quarter. Defensively JC like Ashland has a tendency to over pursue and is susceptible to the counter or QB keeper and the cut backs. Scott will figure things out and play even with JC for the second half but I don't think they will be able to catch up unless JC puts it on the ground. In the end I believe JC will move on final score around 35-20. Scott is a good team that has won 10 games They should not be taken lightly.
