Can Phelps give the district a run?
#1
Hear me out- the hornets are playing great ball and getting better. Pikevile has looked rough last two games. Hazard is now without Smith. Im not saying Phelps wins the district but can they make those 2 games competitve enough to warrant a "moral victory"

The simple answer is a big emphatic NO Smile

PHELPS: 3-0
PIKEVILLE: 1-2
HAZARD: 2-1

I've said this for years on here. For a team like Phelps, winning the District or even being in the position to win the District would mean for their school, program and community than a state championship would for a team like Trinity, X or Highlands.

Not to mention, getting a win over Pikeville might cause the Hornets to tear down the goal post on every football field between Hambley Blvd. to Phelps Rd.

Reverse your records Pikeville and Hazard.

Its good to see Phelps getting football fever. They will have a shot of getting to the second round in the playoffs this year.
#6
Pikeville looks done cause they are playing stud teams. I'm happy for Phelps, but let's not run before we master walking.
#7
Phelps isn't deep enough yet to make the push but I do believe within two years if Jones stays for the long haul they will start making a lot of schools nervous.
#8
who do we project phelps to play in round 1 of playoffs
#9
I expect Phelps and Coach Jones to start picking up a few of Belfry's haul from West Virginia every year.

They already have been for last two years.

Sorry but NO !!!!

Absolutely not

Phelps has improved. That is obvious. I do not know if they have improved enough to mount a serious run at the top of the district yet due to depth. The drop off from their 1sbto 2s is still markedly sharp. But Coach Jones has his boys playing well and believing in themselves and I think that is great. To quote a friend, "Phelps may be the 3rd best team in Pike County right now".
#14
Don't be shocked by this team. They have some big and fast players . They are hungry and I wouldn't be shocked if they upset some teams . Go Hornets don't listen to the nay Sayers.

How long has coach David Jones been at Phelps.
#16
This will be his 2nd year if not mistaken.
#17
No, not yet.

I would say 4th best team in Pike Co. I think Pike Central would still beat them right now but there closing that gap fast

Looking at Lynn Camp, Pineville or Harlan in first round. Pineville and Harlan are down this year.
#20
I think at the least it will take a few more years before they are competitive in the district, and that is if Jones stays at Phelps.

That's a big if

Is it true the Hornets got a transfer this week?
#23
Making things tougher on Phelps is the District has two of the Top 5 teams in the State year in and year out. Not many if any other Districts in any Class have that.
