Athletic director at Austin Peay is a former Mayfield football player. Probably minimal or no rent for the two teams.

I didn't know we had a Mayfield guy there.

Ryan Ivey, Mayfield's kicker in the mid-to-late 90s, is the AD down there.

55, the angle where their defensive ends played disciplined and didn't get kicked out by a pulling guard... and the one where their runners always seemed to be falling forward... I hope Mayfield gets a running clock on them... but i see Corbin being a better and more athletic Graves.

I remember Ryan well. Mostly from baseball though. He was a very good kicker but, he played a lot against my oldest in baseball. Decent first baseman.
CS, I will just say you are seeing something different than I. I would take GC head to head.

No I won't and I don't care anyway. I'm not a fan of either team

Gosh, Mayfield is only ranked 5th in 2A by Litkenhaus.

Mayfield likes it that way... maybe people will look past the Cards, and be focused on the next week!

2a is pretty loaded. Also this is a computer system that doesn't use out of state competition. Therefore that big win against TN 2a #2 don't count. Also, for some reason they haven't given Graves Co much credit at 4-2 in 5a. They are just around a 90. They played within 2 td's since we nealed on the ball. That hurt Mayfield's rating. And the other team we added to our schedule to replace Marshall Co this year, Hopkinsville, has played a tough schedule and therefore not getting much love. They have been beat by a ranked Caldwell Co on a come from behind win. They were beat by a 5a ranked Christian Co in a come from behind win and they were blown out by Mayfield.

Graves County has not defeated a team with a winning record. They are also 3-2 and not 4-2.
Hoptown isn't getting much love because the are 1-4 and their only victory was by 7 vs 1-4 PT Tornado team. They have 2 close losses but they are still losses.
In fact the only winning teams on Mayfield's schedule thus far have been Union City and Graves County.
Those factors alone give the Cardinals a less than real computer ranking.

How many teams wouldn't be 1-4 playing the likes of Mayfield, Christian Co and Caldwell Co?
09-22-2017, 12:18 AM
The point is, these are good teams and time will show that.
09-22-2017, 01:12 AM
Mayfield has a lot of kids going both ways and that's tough in warm, humid conditions against a well rested team with more depth and less 2 way players. On the flipside, they need to control the ball on long, sustained drives and keep Mayfield's offense off the field as much as possible early to avoid a big onslaught while the legs are still strong. If Corbin keeps it close in the 1st 3 quarters, then I like there chances, but, if they get behind by 2 or 3 scores, I think Mayfield's D is good enough for them to hang on for the win..

Okay, if you want a true breakdown, here it is:
Union City, lost to Mayfield 0-41, they have won every game since and are currently ranked #2 in Tn 2a.
Hopkinsville, lost to Mayfield 20-49, they lost to S Warren (not as bad as they did to Mayfield), they lost to Caldwell Co (top ten 3a team) in a come from behind win, They lost to Christian Co (#3 in 5a) and beat PT. Now, yes that is 1-4 record, but a narrow loss to top 5 team from 5a in a come from behind and a narrow loss to a top ten 3a team. Not too shabby. That record will change drastically come district play.
Paducah Tilghman, lost to Mayfield 14-47, they lost by 1 point in OT game to cross town rival 6a team. They beat Liberty Tech from Tn (don't know much about them). They lost to 5a #11 team Graves Co. They lost a close one to a 4a team, Hopkinsville, that played #3 in 5a to the wire.
McCracken Co, lost to Mayfield 27-49. They beat PT in the crosstown battle in OT. They lost by 1 touchdown to Northeast out of Clarksville, Tn (pretty good team I hear). They lost to Graves Co. They got killed by Glenbard North of Illinoise (don't know anything about them).
Graves County, lost to Mayfield 31-45. They beat Murray 40-24, with the back up qb in. They lost to top ten 3a team in Caldwell, when the back up qb had a bad night throwing interceptions. They beat 6a McCracken Co. They also beat PT.
Now, if you are really keeping count on how many wins and losses our competition had. Well, 5 of those losses were at the hands of Mayfield. Then there were 4 of those losses were at the hands of each other, if our competition plays each other, someone has to win and someone has to lose. Back to my point of them beating up on each other as previously stated. All of this will start to work out once district play starts, with the exception of PT and Caldwell. They both play in district and therefore one of them has to lose.
As far as Graves County goes, I'm not sure they will lose another game before playoffs. They could lose as many as 2 with both Christian Co and Owensboro in their district. I don't think they will lose either but time will tell.
McCracken County will probably win all but 1 of their remaining regular season games.
Paducah Tilghman will probably win 3 of their remaining 5 games and may sneak out another win.
Hopkinsville will probably win 4 of their remaining 5 regular season games.
Union City will probably get beat this week in Tx but, may win the remainder of their regular scheduled games as well.
If all this works out like I think it will that is 20 wins versus 5 losses for this competition the rest of the regular season. That is what I was referring to when I made my comments. Feel free to blast away, but, be here at the end of the season when I bring this back to prove that I was most likely correct.

Excuse me troll, but where did I pump PT up at all. I said they are improving. I feel like they are making strides. Secondly you are full of sh** with statements you make that are clearly contrary to facts released. Union City is clearly #2 in 2a on TN. Go to WPSD and check it out. Every week they post TSSAA polls. It clearly shows them at 2. It's simple, Google WPSD (local news television). Go to sports. Then scroll down until you see the TSSAA polls.

As far as McCracken under achieving. I would say to the contrary. They are over achieving. They just simply don't have the athletes they have had in the past. They also have very little in the way of linemen. They had been blessed with college sized linemen in the past. This year it would appear they are using wide outs as linemen.
09-22-2017, 01:43 PM
McCracken, last time I checked, is among the 10-12 largest high schools in the state. Yet it struggles to compete against much smaller programs. They have unlimited money and booster support and small college level facilities. They are not turning out to be the juggernaut that so many predicted.

A big 6A school isn't blessed with athletes but little ole Mayfield is? Yeah OK. Everybody on here can you see how full of BS your arrogant A$$ is.

Tony Dungy Super Bowl winning coach said the other day that if you want to win you have to get better players. High Schools get what lives in their District McCracken has plenty of Athletes but may choose to play other sports at this point in time, such as Baseball. Soccer, Tennis, Track, Cross Country and sometimes Basketball. Some even go to school to study. What goes around comes around, given time McCracken will play better Football. They were to good out of the gate and expectations skyrockety. Mayfield right now is the Best Team in far Western Kentucky and usually are most every year. They win more on shear determination than any sports team I've ever seen at the high school level.
