After Russell defeated Larue county and basically shutdown a D1 running back...I'm not predicting anything. I know we have a target on our backs. For those that don't know, we had only beaten Russell, like 1 time in our existence (the very first meeting back in the late 70s/early 80s). And now we've beat them 4 years in a row. They have a good team, better coaching (Haddix ol' teammate at Western), some really good athletes, and MOTIVATION. We have fans wanting to think we have "made it", a bit too much. We are better, competing, winning playoff games, but still not "there". We've graduated 2 of our best classes, back to back, 23 GREAT seniors in 2 years who worked well together. All I'll say, this should be a great game. This rivalry has been more about fights in the parking lot for decades, or at some random meeting spot, up until recently when we started actually competing, and winning. Now it's finally an adjacent county rivalry.

This will be nip and tuck game with a less than 7 point margin for the winner.

I'll say:

Casey - 28
Russell - 27

........this game should have been in the pickem contest.

There won't be any shutouts or blowouts in this game or the next against J-Town like there was last year for Casey. Lakers close the gap but the Rebels pull out the W in a good one.

Casey 35
Russell Co. 31

I don't think the general public knows how much Russell has improved. I am still trying to gauge where Casey is. Big, hard fought win over a very good (but undermanned in numbers), Campbellsville team. I think Cmapbellsville is really solid so I'm hoping this means we are about where we were last year. I am sure Russell is better though.

As good as Campbellsville is, the size difference between 3A and a VERY small 1A school, makes a massive difference. While Casey is a very good team, Campbellsville is possibly overall the better team within their class.

A lot of 1A football is simply a war of attrition. If you can stay the healthiest of people in your district and region, you've got a shot to make some noise. If you have healthy athletes in 1A, you're in really good shape.

And with that being said, I don't think Russell County is quite to the level of Casey County. It probably shouldn't be a blow out or a running clock, but I think Casey will feel pretty good about the final score.

I say 35-14 for Casey.

I left Russell County 4 years ago to come to a new church in TN. I coached these Russell County Seniors when they were in youth league. They are a talented bunch. They have worked hard in the weight room and are ready to get Russell County back to their winning ways. I watched the LaRue film and was really impressed with the physicality of the Lakers. They will want this one bad! I say Lakers win 24-14!

Casey County up 14pts stepping off the bus........Russell is improved but they only won a few games last year......Ok with that said. Pretty even game if not for the 14pts stepping off the bus. :joystick::joystick::joystick:

That is a fair post right there. I would agree that Cville is above Casey in terms of class. I feel Campbellsville is definitely top 5. Casey is, MAYBE top 7...But this year a win over Bell county is going to be a dogfight, IMO, if we can get that win. Bell is better, for sure. Beating 6A J-Town will be NO EASY task this year. J-Town is much bigger, more athletic across the board. If we beat J-Town it will be because of Coaching, Coach Stonebraker and D Coordinator Bryan Cross have won us a few games like this, over better teams, manpower wise.

I agree they are improved. I also helped coach these Casey seniors, and juniors, and the last 2 crops of seniors, in youth, and middle school. Although Russell has improved, we still have won every meeting against you guys (including your youth teams) except for one hiccup game in 8th grade (middle school) when our All-State running back just came back with a broken hand. Russell had added a very dynamic QB that year as well, from a Casey county private academy school. This still doesn't mean I think we are going to win hands down. Kids improve in high-school, and it all depends on the work ethic, and then the coaching. In this much I say, I hope you are wrong. :-D

Game conditions favored Russell considering Casey's normal offense yet the score was not indicative of that. Russell is an improved team however. The jury is still out if Casey is better than last year, but have now had almost an entire high-school career in the same system. The past 2 years Casey players came from a specific offense (Split-back veer) to a more modern offense. Now the seniors have 3 years in this system. We could still use a few more players and eventually our youth numbers hopefully will pay off. With TOP "3A teams" coming in with 75 to 100 kids, with only small dropoffs from their 1st team to their 2nd teams, even when your numbers climb to a 53 man roster, you're still a little outmanned. Russell looks like their numbers are starting to climb back up as well.
