Russell @ Ashland 9-7
#1
Thoughts on this huge rivalry game?
#2
I’ve watched Russell play twice. This game shouldn’t be close. Ashland should win by 4 or more scores but injuries and rivalries headed into this one throw out what should happen and we may get a close game.
#3
Ashland will score points and Russell has to be able to put up at least 28 to have a chance at winning. Russell seems to have struggled offensively so far and I don’t think they can put up the points needed to win.
#4
Ashland will sleep walk through the first half. 42-16
#5
Ashland cruises to a 42-10 win
#6
Although this Russell team is improving I don’t see them being able to compete with the Tomcats

42-12 tomcats

Russell can hang around a while if they don't give up big plays, but they have to sustain an offense or it will be a long night.
#9
When was the last time Russell began the season 0-3 in back to back years?
#10
I have no idea but I know it was before 98 when the khsaa started keeping records at khsaa.org.
#11
Ashland wins big. I'll say 42-14.

Russell just needs to use this game to work on things they could use down the road. Keep a positive outlook and attitude. The devils are huge underdawgs but they can’t at least be physical play hard and let the Tomcats know they were in a ball game.

I think Ashland will score at will. Russell is having too difficult of a time scoring.

Ashland should win this game, but it will be closer than most expect. I don't look for Russell to come out and roll over to the Tomcats. Injuries hurt Ashland in this one as their top wide receiver, top defensive lineman, and top defensive end are all out. Two other players are playing with their hands wrapped up in a cast. From what I hear, Ashland should be just hoping those guys can make it back for the Johnson Central game at the end of the season.

If Russell can contain Pittman and Ratliff running the ball, then this could be a ballgame. The Devils would have beaten Ironton last week had it not been for a bad snap for a safety, a punt block for a TD, a fumble on a big drive late in the game, a missed FG late in the game, and the defense giving up a 70-yard TD run. They managed to make just enough bad plays to lose it while playing pretty good the rest of the game. Russell needs to play power football as it has been established that Ashland can be ran over up front. I think Russell can make it interesting.

Those guys were out against GW except for Cade Brandt.. he played the first quarter before getting hurt. Russell will be facing the same team that put 50 points on GW, were playing at home! Running clock!

Ashland by as many they want...

Russell was 0-3 last year when they lost to GC in OT, Ironton 35-7 and then Ashland. I still believe if Coach Maynard continues to play the offense he played last week vs. Ironton and the Defense plays like it did last week I don't believe this will a 42-14 or 49-14 game. I believe that Ashland with its talent will win by 2 TD's but I don't see a 4 or 5 TD win. I know Ironton is still not the Ironton team yet but last year in 2017 they beat Russell 35-7 and they basically have almost everyone back on Offense & Defense. I was surprised how well both the Defense and Offense played last week for Russell. If we can continue to be more consistent in our Running game we can have 2 or 3 RB's Duvall, Conley, and Sharp that could run for over 100 yds. We also threw for approx. 100 yds in passing and missed several easy throws last week. We gave up the 9 points to Ironton on 2 terrible snaps over the Punter head for a safety and TD. That made the score 9-7 and we had a couple of chances when Russell was driving in Ironton's territory and turned it over on downs in Ironton territory. Then the last TD for Ironton was when Russell once again was driving to Ironton's 20 yard line and Russell Fumbled the ball. If Russell goes in for TD or gets a FG they win the game. After the fumble Ironton runs a long 74 yard TD to go up 16-7. Russell could have easily won this game 14-0 or 21-0 if they don't give up the Turnovers and no fumbles on offense when driving into Ironton's territory and take it in for a score. I see Russell improving since game 1 and if they continue they should do well in there District.

Russell will give it hell cause it’s Ashland but in the end the Tomcats are too much.

Tomcats- 38

Devils-16

If Russell can establish a running game and keep the Ashland offense off the field then I think they will have a chance. Russell will also have to play mistake free and take advantage of any opportunity that is given to them. Ashland can score very quickly and if Russell loses their poise after a couple of quick scores then it could get ugly.

Russell 7
