Raceland 2019
#1
Rams return alot but need to replace several key spots. Center both gaurds all 4 Linebackers and Running back. Can they do it and contend? I say yes with the QB and Recievers all back and maybe the best Secondary and DLine in Class A . Whats the rest of the Ram fans think?
#2
I think your horn sucks lol
#3
I think our horn sucks too! Lol. Drives me nuts but the boys love it. Lost a few to graduation, especially in the backfield and at LB. But a few return that will lead the way. Cant call us state title CONTENDERS yet. But we have a shot at a regional final and the ability to make it to Kroger field. Who steps up will decide all of that.
#4
Jake Heighton will have a big year, as will Lewis and Cox. Who steps in at the Y position and RB will decide our fate offensively.
#5
I agree with Scotty. I think we will be strong in several areas but we will be rebuilding in others. I think the Rams will have a solid season but it is a bit early to consider them a contender.
#6
I’m sure it’s gonna be a great season. Curious to see who steps up with Beechwood moving to 2A.
#7
I think the east will go on a run over this alignment

New Cath isnt the same animal they used to be.

I've always respected the Raceland program. Can't wait to watch the Belfry/Raceland scrimmage before the season starts. I believe it'll be good for both programs.
#10
It will definitely give Raceland an idea where we stand in terms of how we can compete, especially upfront, with the best teams on our schedule and the post season. Really glad to see that scrimmage happen and hope it can work it's way onto the regular season schedule as well. I heard the scrimmage is going to be a live game scrimmage with special teams being ran like they do in the grid. Can anyone confirm?

Not sure how it will be ran but can't wait to watch it and see where we're at as well. We lost alot on the O-Line. Only returning starter is the Center but we have one kid that played alot last year. Other than that, we have all new faces up front.

Belfry new faces are a bit different than Raceland new faces though lol

Go rams

Not sure about that, Lol! Raceland is going to be just fine. It's true, over the past couple years Belfry has been a powerhouse with some huge lineman but what Raceland will see in August is nothing like those teams. I believe we'll be 3A favorites, IMO, but this team is more about speed than size up front. We will still have pretty decent size up front just not like we've had in the past. If the Rams have plenty of speed on both sides of the ball, this scrimmage could be interesting. Either way, my son is the starting Center for the Pirates so Belfry is my team but I've always liked and respected the Rams and their program. Good luck to you guys this coming year.

Not that it will necessarily translate on the field but our boys track team finished 6th at the 1A state meet and several of the guys on the team were some of our skill players. Whether or not that translates to football is yet to be seen but we will have some speed on the field.

Kudos to Raceland for scrimmaging Belfry. It’s scheduling these type of teams that make you better for tougher games down the road. This is a huge reason why Raceland have cemented their spot as the best team in the county over the last 10 years. The community kids school and coaches wanna win, I can’t say the same for my Red Devils!

Did I really just read a post from a Fairview fan about taking a high road against getting kids from across state lines?

Hahahah Hahahah Hahahah what a idiot hahahahaha hahah....keep it coming coco puffs Hahahah

That was the funniest thing I have read in years. Fairview still shouldn’t be allowed to play in the playoffs lol.

I hope the Hughes kid gets some PT this year. Saw him in quite a few JV/Fresh games and he was a pretty good athlete.
#23
Hughes gives us a good workhorse option. Imo, he needs the bulk if the Carries to give us a physicality level on offense. Pennington is a tough runner, but he isnt a 15+ carry a game back. Heighton is a dual threat kid, but again, he doesnt need 10+ Carries a game. Theres some big holes to fill fir the Rams this year in the backfield.
#24
The Hughes kid is probably the best athlete in the sophmore class. But a workhorse back is not possible imo. He may way 130lbs right now at best . He would need to gain 25 lbs to be able to handle the pounding. Now he could be used a great change of pace guy maybe 5-8 carries a game. Pennington and maybe the Nichols kid will see the bulk of the load imo. Plus I would say we will throw it around a little more than usual at first this year with a young OL .
#25
The Rams have a long way to go! Could be an ugly year when you look at the record but they will be in most every game! The Rams numbers are down and will be even fewer next year! But I know the boys will fight through it and do what they can!
#26
The numbers are not that bad. Next year the Freshman class is huge 25 or so. Last I heard they had 55 or so this year. Thats good for 1A . Rams will win 7 games or so. Regular season. Pikeville, Ashland, and Paintsville will of course be the toughest test and Portsmouth West. They could play in the State Title game or lose round 2 to Paintsville. Time will tell. I think alot of people are planning on a down year for some reason . I dont see it that way at all. Good qb play they are always good on both lines and 2 wideouts that run 4.4 40s. And a returning a complete secondary .

Missing one main cog in that secondary that cleaned up a lot of mistakes made by other players! I agree time will tell but a solid schedule should have them ready for a playoff run

Biggest issue with this group will be mental toughness. Someone will have to step up and lead the defense and teach the younger guys to play the next play after a mistake. This could be a 7-3/8-2 regular season and playing for a shot at Kroger field or even make it to Kroger Field. But it could also be a 4-6/5-5 year w a 2nd round exit. I dont think that will be how it plays out, but it could. Imo, this will also tell us where we stand as a program after the last 5-10 years of consistent contention, atleast in the east. We return tallent, but very little experience and alot of important positions to replace.
#29
I’m not 100% sure I like a Raceland/Belfry preseason scrimmage... Belfry is big up front and runs that aggressive downhill triple option. For a small school injuries is ALWAYS an issue so this could be a miscalculation. Pikeville plays them every year in what use to be an AWESOME rivalry game but now I just kind of hold my breath and hope we don’t get anyone hurt cause the game really doesn’t count where it’s non district game and PHS is class A. I would love to see a PHS v. RHS playoff game this year.
#30
I see the argument there. But imo, it's the next step our program needs to take. If it were a regular season game, I would be a bit more hesitant, but it being a scrimmage, even if its live, coaches can protect kids. The upper echelon single A schools have always played bigger better teams. I think that is where our program is heading, in order to maintain, we need to start facing teams that can expose areas if weakness. We play Ashland every year, they played Belfry consistently every year for awhile.
