What does Taylor County and Casey have coming back? Mercer was up on Taylor going into halftime last year and ended up getting beat by 5 points. Mercer only had 5 seniors last year and 3 that started and has a big senior class this year. With Taylor being at 6 might be able to make a case for Mercer being top 10. End of the day it may not matter for any team outside the top 3 as I think it would be a major upset for teams 7-10 to beat one of the top 3.

IMO, the top 3 are somewhat interchangeable. I think they may be some room between the next 6-7 teams.
Belfry hater or know nothing about high school football. Do your research

Take top 3 and they are interchangeable. My biggest question, is CAL's new coach. No doubt they have a lot of talent, but what's his philosophy? Same as LeFors? Overall should be a great season in 3A. Good luck to all the teams.
I believe Glasgow will be in the 4-6 range.

I'm confused to who's the hater?, and knows nothing about high school football?
Rip/Spin Wrote:I believe Glasgow will be in the 4-6 range.

A Glasgow man sat beside us at the state finals this year and he felt they would be pretty good this year so I would bet your 4-6 range is about right too based on what all he said they had returning
ColtPride Wrote:You don't really know a lot about these 2 Louisville teams then. I'll take our's and CAL's top 11 athletes over Belfry's.
Belfry's running game plays into both of DeSales, and CAL's strength. DEFENSE. It's what both teams do, and they both do it well. I know you 3A guys don't seem to think that either of these 2 are going to come in and challenge, but they both will do more than that. I don't think it's a stretch, and of course it's my opinion, but I think your state champion will come out of the Louisville district, more times than not. DeSales had a great run, then CAL had a great run, I like DeSales more than CAL this year. I think without Wright, and with Scroggins at DeSales, it will tip back in their favor. In addition to that either one you get in the playoffs will be battle tested. They both play more difficult schedules. DeSales has one of the toughest in the state. Central, did not have to move up. But they wanted no part of this district, year in and year out. We'll keep knocking those higher class teams they put in front of us down each week, and maybe with a little luck we'll get the chance to meet one of those mountain teams for a chance at another title.

Colt, they may not know a lot about DeSales and CAL but I do. I agree with you about CAL. No way for any of us to know where to put them until we learn more about the new coach and what he runs and how long it takes for his team to buy into what he is doing. I will say CAL should be really good with what all they return. I cant speak for what all the Colts return but I am sure they will be in the mix, they always are. I would caution all the DeSales and CAL fans to keep both eyes on Belfry and hold Belfry in the highest of reguards. Its no accident that they are always in the mix with a butt load of titles and runner ups to their credit. I recall several of you Louisville guys welcoming Mayfield to 2A and trying to tell us we are not in 1A anymore and we immediately opened with a title and erased all doubt about not belonging among the 2A elite. Belfry will be the same way, do not think that just because they are so run oriented that they are not a threat, they are and will continue to be. Now who should be where, not sure but all 3 should be at or near the top
ColtPride Wrote:I'm confused to who's the hater?, and knows nothing about high school football?

She said that because she's confused.

Period.
I hope Boyle County travels to Murray Smile

Don't think this came from a Belfry fan so don't hate on us to much, Lol! This Pirate has nothing but the utmost respect for CAL and DeSales as you can see in all my posts on the matter. I think the Top 3 (Belfry, CAL, or DeSales) is where the 2019-2020 3A champ will come from. I think it's a pretty wide gap from #3 to #4 although I believe Bell and Ashland could be really tough this year and make some loud noise and possibly pull a surprise. But I do honestly think Belfry wins in the end. Our 2020 class is absolutely loaded and this is the team we've been waiting to become seniors since the 2016 team graduated. Only time will tell. But I do think the trophy goes to one of those 3 teams. Ever how you want to rank them, doesn't matter. There's no wrong way to rank them. All three are legit #1's IMO.

Definitely agree with that. All 3 teams have a deficiency or two....but also bring a tremendous amount to the table. if Belfry can stay healthy...IMO, they get the edge.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Belfry at Kroger Field for the finals. They were very good last season, and this season should be their year. Good luck to #55 and the Pirates this season, and hope to see my Pikeville Panthers and the Belfry Pirates, both in Lexington.

Brother that's exactly what its going to come down to. We have got to stay healthy or we dont have a shot. Seems like every year we have a hand full of starters, key players, standing on the sidelines in street clothes every other game. I can understand if it's a legit injury but if your on that sideline because you have a painful bruise or your belly is hurting that's just the wrong answer. We better come out tougher and hungrier or we wont have to worry about CAL or DeSales because we wont make it out of the region. I'm not trashing our kids, it just seems like this is happening way to much here lately. It just cant happen this year. We don't have the depth to cover down for it.

Belfry plays a "grind it out" style of football, so there are always going to be more injuries, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Five yards here, three yards there, ten yards here, two yards there. Belfry's system is designed to wear down their opponents and in the process, they can be worn down as well. It's just a physical scheme and althougth Belfry is usually the team dishing out the punishment, it will eventually take it's toll on anyone . You are right about one thing, when Belfry is healthy, they are tough to beat and if they can stay healthy this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see them playing on Kroger Field for the championship. Good luck this upcoming year.

I agree with what you said. I think Bell County could surprise some people this year.
I will guess Bell has the fastest QB in 3A. We will have a nice team for sure.

Offensive side of the ball is not where the problem is at. And it's been happening a game or two into the season. So the "grind it out" style has nothing to do with it my friend.

Correct. In fact.....over the past 4 years....we’ve averaged 1- 2 starters on the sideline before the season started. Some injuries have been odd freaky natured ailments.....almost inexplicable. But #55 is correct....it’s not been due to our offensive “grind”.
bell is tough this year
i truly think bell could improve greatly and play in the state championship they have a very good qb

raiderfan1 Wrote:i truly think bell could improve greatly and play in the state championship they have a very good qb

Stephney is lightning in a bottle!

I think Bell County will be undefeated through at least the first 12 games.

My only critique with Bell is their soft schedule last year and a pretty average schedule this year might not have them the best prepared they could be for when they have to play one of the powerhouses.

With that said, there is always something to be said for confidence and if Bell goes undefeated they will not be lacking any of that.
PoCofootball Wrote:https://kentuckyprepgridiron.com/coach-l...ball-poll/

We really don’t know what Belfry lacks, aside from a legitimate passing attack and they have addressed that in securing a QB transfer from West Virginia

Bell will be very good. We just need to keep improving as the year goes along. Coach Hilton is a great big game coach!
