Sheldon Clark football is no more and this will be the first season as MCHS. The Cards only graduated 4 last year and return a ton of talent dropping into 2A in a district that they could see some wins in this season.

I had no idea of this, with what Sheldon Clark returns they may make a pretty good entry as a new school. I take it from the above post they are going to enter as a 2A team.

Should be interesting to see how they fare locally in 2A

Can we still consider it to be SC? It's not a "new school" just a new building, and they changed the name?
I'll probably still call it Sheldon Clark

Same colors, same mascot..... new building & new school name.
The football field and football scoreboard already has Martin County on them. I think the new field and scoreboard were installed around 2007 or 2008.

Martin County and West Carter are two of my favorites to win that new district. Shelby Valley too.

I had no idea this was happening. Anyone provide info on when this decision was reached and why? Assuming it was 1-3 years ago.

Well they started the building when SCHS was condemned, they sent those kids to the old Warfield school?
I'm sure the new school will be great. Some kids might stay back at SC now.
Have they done anything to that field house from the Hager administration?

Shelby valley is light years ahead of MCHS. It's more like a toss up between SV, WC, and Bath county for first.

I had heard both Bath and SV lose a lot, could be wrong

Bath County loses a great senior class but the cupboard isn't bare. They have an incoming sophomore class built just like the senior class that is graduating (big, fast, and numbers) plus they return their starting QB, 2 leading tacklers, and an all area starting tackle as seniors. Bath Co will be younger but will be ok. West Carter is the district favor hands down the next 2 seasons. Not sure anyone will be able to hang with them. I see Bath Co, West Carter, Martin Co, and SV in the playoffs for the next few seasons.

Winner of this district has a really good chance of playing in a state semi-final... too bad the reward for making it that far is Beechwood.

On the old system I would have agreed but all that changed with the new RPI changes KHSAA implemented yesterday. 1 of the 4 teams I mentioned above will get to the round of 8 (old regional finals) but will get re-seeded and will get Beechwood or Walton Verona/ Louisville Shawnee then instead of the semi's.

I believe this district could get very interesting!!!

I agree as I feel most teams in the district that feel they could win it yearly.

Where is the new school at?

At the end of 645. To the left of the old school up on the hill.

SC finally has some coaching stability. That should help. A nice class of kids coming back that will be juniors next year. They could have a few good years coming.

Bath had their best year last year. As long as J. Poynter is there the will never win big. Doesn't have the ability to get the most out of team...he proved that last year.

I know Sheldon Clark or now Martin county travels to Harlan to play HC in week 3. I know SC and Cawood have played but I don't think SC have ever played HC unless I'm just not thinking about it but anyway welcome to Harlan County week 3 safe travels.

It is Martin County. Nothing changes. They will not win anything. As far as the new building. It took them six years to build the thing. No money to move any of the sports fields in the near future. Had the superintendent before Meadows not had the hindsight to get the football field turfed and build the new baseball and softball field they would still be playing on terrible fields.

Sheldon Clark beat Cawood in the playoffs
I think Evarts and Sheldon Clark split two games.

It seemed a little odd at first, but I assume Sheldon Clark is a former school official and the first building was named after him, maybe when he was superintendent.
Why would they name a second building after him? Martin County makes more sense. Just about every other county has a county high school named after the county.

Just heard MC is adding a quality young coach to the staff. Very exciting!

Does this quality young coach have a name?
Also, is Ethan Smith-Mills planning on playing for Martin County this season?

Thank you. That is good to read that someone will be transferring in to play in Martin County as a Cardinal. I'm not familiar with football as I am basketball but seems like Martin County loses more athletes than it gains them. Maybe Smith-Mills will begin to reverse that trend. I certainly hope so. Martin County deserves to have some positive things happen, the new school is impressive. Hopefully they can have some strong seasons across the board in all sports to further give the community something to take pride in.
