with the arrival of Jason Fooley, BIG BOY football has finally come to Pulaski County. I truly believe this will be the best South Western team in school history. Any way I wouldn't want to be wearing red Friday night. South Western dismantles Belfry 47-6. This may be the most complete team Belfry has faced in their programs history. Come take your spankin Belfry.

I was starting to wonder what happened to all the Southwestern trolls. Is Jim Rome's suspension due to be lifted anytime soon or will he just have to create another burner account?

A couple of keys.

1) Who steps up and leads the team for Belfry without the starting QB available?

2) Can Southwestern take advantage of an inexperience Belfry offensive line? The last time Belfry had lost this much up front was following 2016 but Lawson, Rash, Wolford, and Thacker were all waiting for their chance as juniors. Thus far, it isn’t clear who is going to step up. I believe they will be fine by season’s end, but expect early growing pains. Can Southwestern capitalize?

3) Who’s healthy? If Belfry is without 4-5 starters as they have been throughout camp, it could be a long night. The injury report is too long to list. We should have a better idea Thursday night into Friday morning.

4) Can Southwestern contain Bentley and Dixon, even with help? This is one of the best running back tandems Belfry has seen, but SWHS will have some assistance from reserve QB play and a young offensive line. However, as Richlands and Raceland found out, Isaac Dixon can make something out of nothing quick - not to mention Bentley didn’t even play in those scrimmages.

5) What’s Southwestern’s identity? Where do they go on 3rd and 3? How does that attack Belfry’s strengths and weaknesses?

No, the Don Marshall Bowl is at Southwestern this year. This is the late game. Pulaski County and Lexington Catholic open it up at 6pm.

Fast Facts: Belfry vs. Southwestern (Week 0 2019)

Week 0 Blues: Belfry is 0-2 all time in Week 0 games, both losses coming to Prestonsburg 28-21 (2009) and 21-6 (2010). The Pirates’ have been held to 16 ppg lower than their season average in Week 0 games.

So Far, So Good: The Pirates are 3-0 all time vs Southwestern – 1997 (@ Belfry, 34-16), 2013 (@ Southwestern, 38-27), 2014 (@ Southwestern, 28-7). In 2013, Southwestern scored 11 points more than Belfry’s per game allowed average. Belfry is 2-0 at Southwestern, where Friday Night’s contest will be played.

Old Ties: Belfry linebacker and Air Force commit Grayson Cook and cornerback Isaiah Birchfield played under new Southwestern Head Coach Jason Foley for FBU Team Kentucky in 8th grade.

How'd You Get Here?: In two seasons at Taylor County, Coach Foley led the program to a 19-7 record and a Regional championship in 2018. Prior to Taylor County, Jason Foley served as the head coach at Northern Pulaski where he amassed four Kentucky Middle School Football Association State Championships, three in the 7th grade division (2010, 2015, 2016) and one in the 8th grade division (2011).

Starting Strong: Under Philip Haywood, the Pirates are 22-13 in the first true road game of the season. The last first road game loss was the Ashland in 2010 (36-22). Belfry is 13-3 in such games since 2003, with two of those losses being at Ashland.

Road Warriors: Belfry has only lost 7 regular season away games inside the state of Kentucky since 2010, with three of those losses coming that season.

Welcome Back: Belfry has not had a player rush for 1,300 yards and return the next season since 2009 (Thomas Varney, 1,373). Isaac Dixon rushed for 1,393 as a sophomore, the highest total for any Pirate ballcarrier since Austin Hatfield rushed for 1,600 yards in 2014.

Ethan Wolford wasn't a Junior following the 2016 team. He was just going into his Sophomore year. He'll be a senior this year. Lawson, Rash, and Thacker were however going into their Junior years and have now graduated. But those four did play the last two years together and played well blocking first guys like Taveon Hunter, Derek Wellman, Avery Browning and current Pirates Bentley, Coleman and Dixon. Losing those three lineman is going to be hard to replace! Just wanted to clear that up for the ones who didnt know. Wolford is the only starter back and Shawn Cochran, who played alot last year, will lead a group of young, inexperienced Pirate lineman up front but if we can stay healthy I believe we'll be fine. But we can't afford ANY injuries on the front line or we'll be in trouble. But I agree with the rest of your post. Very good assessment.

Meant to say "blocking FOR guys" not "blocking FIRST guys". My mistake and it wouldn't let me edit it. Sorry.

Southwestern may beat Belfry Friday night, anything can happen in high school football, but if you really think that this is the "most complete team" Belfry has ever faced you've lost your damn mind! LMAO! This wouldn't even be the best, most complete team the Pirates have faced in the last 12 months let alone in program history! WOW!

He's a troll. Southwestern doesn't have any real posters on here anymore. I've had suspicions for a while that they are all the same person.

Facts. If y'all really believe any of these people posting are SW posters you've lost your mind. The majority of them are one guy who doesn't like Foley.

I thought I was a pretty good SW poster the last couple of years.
