Mayfield @ Paducah Tilghman 9/6
#1
Two undefeated teams going at it. Have to believe Mayfield will be more inspired this Friday than they were last. I see Tilghman playing tough with Mayfield at the first but I see a 3 to 4 td victory.
#2
My take PT slight advantage on D, Mayfield balance on O gives them the advantage, Mayfield large advantage on FG, Punting. Rivalry game will be a game of who gives best effort and digs the deepest. I take Cards by 17

I wouldn’t give PT advantage in defense. That is after seeing them play McCracken.
#4
If the cardinals plays run defense like they did against hoptown it going to be a long night. Mayfield can score but as shown they can’t do it when the other team own the ball and runs the clock. Tighten up D. I hope we just took hoptown to lightly and know we won’t against the tornadoes.

Mayfield 28
Paducah 17

Stuff the box, force the pass , win the game. Which is basically how Mayfield beats PT every year. PT does not have the D to contain Mayfield, or at least has not shown they have the D.
#6
PT must play ball control and pound MF upfront. Have not shown in the past the ability to do that. Defensively they haven't been able to stop MF so they better play ball control and hope MF messes up. Also PT must win special teams. If all this happens PT wins a close one. If not MF blows them out. Better get pressure on Stinson early and often and eliminate big plays. Good luck with that.

I watched that game as well and reason I giving them the advantage but maybe I wasn't wearing my cardinal colored glasses idk.

I expect a good game here. PT's offense is putting up some points this year, averaging 48 a game thus far, plus it's a home game for them. Mayfield looked excellent on both sides of the ball in week 1, but, played flat on both sides in week 2. If the week 1 Cards show up, I see a 2-3 TD win, but, if week 2 Cards show up, this one's a toss up.
#11
PT is better than Hoptown but MF is far better coached than both.
#12
PT has a mobile QB that can hurt you with his legs and a couple of solid RBs that run hard and are tough to bring down. They have a lot of big play ability. Not sure they can handle Mayfield defensively. If they can win in the trenches, they could pull the upset, but, that's easier said than done. I do look for a high scoring game. I'd give Mayfield the edge 45-27..

Mayfield is pissed and takes it out on PT.

Cards - 47
Tornados - 13

I hope Paducah Tilghman is headed back to the top of 3A. As for now, Mayfield is the team to beat in 2A. I believe Mayfield wins this one.

Mayfield 31
PT 21

I'm not so sure PT is better than Hoptown. They both have really good athletes in the skill positions. PT is probably a little more balanced offensively, but, I'd argue that the Tigers are better defensively and has more depth. That would be a good match up that could go either way.

Mayfield fans are nervous mysonis55 is nervous......64SUR ain’t nervous Confusedmoke:

mayfield 48-13

Having seen both teams play I don't see much of a separation between the two. I believe it'll be a close game throughout. Going out on a limb I'll say PT ends the decade + streak & wins a close one 35-31.
#19
Both tough teams could go either way

PTHS has the physical presence and talent to win this game. I was shocked at how much MORE physical they were than Bowling Green this week. (If MCHS had Hunter Bradley week 2 its a vastly different result.) Will PTHS be intimidated and nervous as usual? So one dimensional and the special teams are highly suspect.

To be a rivalry game you have to win at least once in a while

I see no advantage to PT defensively. I really don't see any PT advantage anywhere but they are certainly a improving team. Jonathan is doing a good job.

PT had a streaky, but somewhat underrated team last year and finished 9-3 after a playoff heartbreaker at E-town. It had a punishing rushing attack, but fell victim to teams that figured out how to stop it and who also exploited some defensive vulnerabilities. PT finished 14th overall in state rushing last year - in all classes. But, when throttled, PT was unable to pass effectively, and rarely did.

Year in and year out - Mayfield wins on good days and bad days, in sickness or health, it wins in the hot and the cold, the wet and the dry, small stadiums and large ones, at home or away, in state or out of state, turf or sod. Matters not. They do it with consistency, preparation, fundamentals and adjustments, not with exotic plays.

PT is coming to this game optimistic, as it should. For a half, last year's game was interesting. Assuming Mayfield puts a spy on Damien Ford, the elite PT running back, and contains the run, can PT survive with an unproven passing game and limited kicking options on 4th and long?

Does PTHS have a kid that can make a 20 yd FG ? Cause the girl is clearing the crossbar on ExPT by a VERY small margin.

You know the Mayfield contingent is a bit tight when they are being this quite. They roll over HopTown last week and we'd be seeing 3 times the posts. This is what makes HS football so cool. It means so much to so many......it doesn't get any better.
#28
We’ve seen to many wild things happen in this game to be overconfident, the thing about PT IS, you can be better than they are but you better have a comfortable lead LATE in the 4th qtr because they always have the speed to score quickly, from anywhere on the field. By all the talk being thrown around they are evidently a good football team this year, I believe the cardinals will match them very close as far as speed, and they may be a little stronger than us up front, other than that I think the cards have an advantage everywhere else, especially in coaching. Mayfield will have to play their best to win, and if they play their best, I think it’ll be a 3 touchdown win.
#29
We have heard this talk about PT every year for the last few years. They are back! They are big, lots of talent, yadda yadda. I agree they are a good football team but "they are back" I'm not buying. They haven't even won a district in a long time.

PT appears to be legit, we did have struggles last week but I would be very shocked if we were to lose this game. I cant recall back to back poor showings and do not think it would happen Friday. Mayfield should win by several scores. Personally I am not really worried. If we should lose or its a close win I will be worried but for now I feel normal and I think everyone else does too. We have a lot of respect for our Blue Northern neighbors and always have.
