Belfry at Kettering Alter, OH 9/13
#31
The Belfry Pirates goes into Ohio and comes out with a victory but not as high scoring game as #55PIrateFan picked 21 to 14 Pirates

VELVET CLOSER Wrote:This will be a good game for Belfry’s offensive line to grow from. This is going to be a line up in front of you smash mouth football game. Belfry will have to play assignment football and get on blocks quickly. As the offensive line goes, Belfry goes. I just don’t think there quiet there yet, but that’s why you schedule games like this. Alter will have to much for the Pirates to handle.

Alter 35
Belfry 21

I picked Belfry to win but that was just my heart talking. Unfortunately, your score Velvet Closer is the more realistic one. Here is the two areas where the Pirates will more than likely lose this game.

#1 - Belfry's O-Line against Alters D-Line. Why? Because like it's been said in about everyone of Belfry's threads this year, our O-Line is very young and inexperienced. Only one returning starter (Wolford/SR) and one more who saw varsity time last year (Cochran/SR). The rest are very new. We have the size to compete just not the experience. And Alters D-Line is massive and athletic! For example, their NG is 6'5 350lbs. And from what I gather their all experienced linemen too. I consider our backfield of Coleman, Dixon, Bentley, and Hensley one of the best in the state. But without great line play against a team like Alter they will be very limited. They have made our line look pretty good this year just by their athleticism and ability to make plays on their own but we haven't faced a defense like Alter's this year. Advantage Archbishop Alter.

#2 Belfry's Defense. Why? Because their O-Line is just as big and athletic as their D-Line. Thus far the Pirates defense has played really well. But again, we haven't faced an offense even close to what we're about to see Friday night. You put a player like McDonald behind an O-Line like they have and its lethal. McDonald is a big, athletic, punishing back that likes contact just as much as linebackers do. We're about to see just how tough our boys are and if they can hold up to the bruising style of football that Alter plays. Our defensive front seven are going to have to earn their money come Friday night, not just the front seven but the entire D. Can the Pirates hold up and answer the call? Time will tell.

If that wasn't enough to worry about, Belfry will be without starting O-Lineman Logan McCoy Friday night due to an injury. And another starting O-Lineman may be limited in snaps.

Good news/Bad news: Good news, starting QB Brett Coleman has been cleared and will make his season debut against Alter. Bad news, this is Coleman's first game back. May be a little rusty.

Pirates have a very tough obstacle in their way this Friday. To pull out a win they'll have to play an almost perfect game. I don't care as much about winning this game as I do in us escaping this game without more injuries because this will be a smash mouth, hard hitting, physical game that could very well result in players getting hurt. Let's just hope that's not the case.

I hope your right Ol Buddy. This would be a STATEMENT win for the Pirates if they can pull it off.

I never pick against the Big Red Machine but as long as they compete in this one I’m good I don’t know anything about this team but I do know Haywood wouldn’t have put them on this schedule if they wasn’t really good. Good Luck #55

Hello fellow Kentucky football fans, I'm new to this site and this was one of the first threads I visited. I haven't followed the Belfry Pirates too much (I live in Newport with a son at the local high school), but I am a pretty avid follower of some Southwestern Ohio football teams, especially Alter. I can't wait to see this match up because it seems like the Pirates are very similar to the Knights with their style of play.

As much as I follow Alter, I stand with the hometown boys and will be rooting for the Pirates. I may even make a trip up to Kettering to watch this run-heavy, old-school, ground-and-pound football.

I am open for any discussion on the Knights of Alter (I have a pretty boring desk job so I will be on here often) Smile

From what I’ve seen on film and read ....Alter looks every bit the part of a top notch Ohio football program. Should be an interesting match up. Alter is definitely bigger up front. Belfry’s O-Line is still a work in progress. In fact it will be a patchwork line due to some injuries. The Belfry backfield is probably one of the best in Kentucky. Defensively, We’re quick to the ball with good Lb play

It will be interesting to see if we can get the FB involved with the massive NG Alter has.

Welcome friend. Hope you enjoy the site. But I hope you have a sense of humor because there's some folks on here that doesn't know the difference between a football and a hole in the ground but they think their a bunch of high school Mel Kipers. I won't name them, won't have to, you'll quickly figure the Homer's out! Hope you can make the trip Friday night and watch the game.

Alter's Head Coach appears to also be in his 45th season as Head Coach like Haywood.

Imagine that 90 YEARS of coaching on the field at the same time.

The Bad news is that it looks like the Belfry O-Line may very well be without two starters due to injury. I won't list them here due to privacy...but I know one is out and one is listed as doubtful. What was already a steep hill to climb, just got even steeper. That being said, I still think Belfry will make a good showing. But, as many of us have been saying since July....this team is a work in progress. The injuries and illness, while so far, hasn't directly impacted the outcomes (thank goodness), has taken its toll.....especially on the offensive side of the ball. Coleman's return will have a positive impact on the offense moving forward. His hitting ability and athleticism will help the defense dramatically. He's a downhill player no doubt.

You usally can! I've been on Yappi (the ohio version of bluegrassrivals) and let me tell you... there are so many damned trolls on that website. It's nice to really be able to have an honest discussion.

What is this new quarterback from Belfry I hear about? I know the Alter QB definitely "gets around" on and off the football field so I can't wait to see the battle between these two quarterbacks.

does anyone know if this game will be seen online anywhere? or just radio

He has been out with an illness this season. Alter will be his first game of the season. He's one of our best players, IMO. He's just another HB/FB in the backfield and an absolute beast at safety on defense. Looks like we may be having some O-Line issues. But that is no excuse. Somebody goes down, somebody needs to step up. We'll see Friday night just how bad our backup O-Line wants to play football.

A few years ago when we played Knoxville Christian and Catholic....they streamed the games on their website. Not sure if Alter does that or not. If not,.....WDHR 93.1 will bring all the action, With Bobby Norman and Steve Mickey handling the play by play and color. You can also listen to their broadcast via an app on your phone.

How do I delet?? I am truly sorry. When I start talking football it takes be back to the glory days (I was the star high school quarterback who could throw 60 yards back in my day) and I don't think before I speak, or in this case type.

Alter fan here, I wanted to compliment this site and its contributors. Everything I have read has been very well written and with thought and consideration. I read in an earlier post about Yappi and whom ever wrote it was spot on. It is a JOKE it has been taken over by kids and haters. Keep it up!! It is nice to be able to log on and read about the great game of high school football.
I want to wish Belfry safe travels and good luck on Friday. It is sounding and looking as if it will be a great game!

Thanks my friend, and welcome! Like I said in an earlier post, for the most part BGR is very professional and clean. Although sometimes it gets a little dicey but the admins do a great job of squashing problems pretty quick. And you will see, we have a few that are on here just to troll and cause problems. Best advice I can give you is to ignore them. You'll quickly realize who these few are by their posts and habit of trolling threads and has nothing good to say. Again, welcome and we hope you stick around. Good luck Friday night. From what I can tell you guys have a great team and I wish you nothing but success all year long except for Friday. I hope you dont score a point! Lol.

My apologies for not catching that post, and praise to Westside for always being on the alert.

If posts that should be deleted happen again please shoot me a PM or text. Half of you have my cell number!!

GoWildcats7, you'd best start thinking before you type. One more post even close to what you said in that deleted one, will get you a permanent ban.
