Friday the 13th really was bad luck for some of Kentucky's top teams last night! Did a few of the Commonwealth's powerhouse's fall to the curse?
In 3A alone you had the Top 3 teams, according to most, lose in Belfry, CAL, and DeSales. Ashland and E-Town also got an "L" in 3A.
2A power and favorite Mayfield went down. Couple other notable teams to fall short last night were 4A's Corbin, Louisville Central, and Anderson County. (Note: not saying all these were upset, just a few big names to go down on the cursed Friday the13th).
Last night did see some of Kentucky's best escape the Friday the 13th curse however. 4A Boyle County continues to dominate their schedule and make their case as one of the best teams in KY. 1A Pikeville barely escaped with a win over Raceland. 4A Johnson Central continued Kentucky's dominance over West Virginia football, and 4A Lexington Catholic was impressive in their win against 3A Desales with a showdown against the Mighty Rebels of Boyle County lurking in the near future.
Crazy night of high school football to say the least. Belfry's lose to Alter isn't that bad. Actually it's a good lose if their is such a thing. They lose to a very very good team in Ohio after a 5 plus hour road trip. Should have only got beat 7-0 but a late score in the final minutes pushed the margin to 14. The Pirates went toe to toe with them in a defensive battle and this game did nothing but help them down the road.
Now on to the showdown with Pikeville next Friday night on Pond Creek. If Belfry comes out and plays like they have the first three games defensively and the offense plays like they did the first two games of the season, it could get real ugly for the Panthers who seem to be struggling since their huge win over Mingo Central. But if Belfry comes out sluggish and not focused and Pikeville comes in with a chip on their shoulder then things can go the complete opposite of what I'm hoping for. Now that QB Brett Coleman has got the first game of his season under his belt and the Pirates are coming off a straight up dog fight with Alter that has left a bad taste in their mouth, the Pikeville Panthers better bring their absolute very best "A" game when they make the trip across the mountain next week because the Pirates have alot of built up frustration they cant wait to get out! I cannot wait for this game. With us having a bye week and now coming off that bye week with a tough road lose against Archbishop Alter, it seems like it's been forever since Belfry has won a game. No better way to get back on track than beating the breaks off our archenemies from Hambley!
Again, I'm not saying that all the teams that I mentioned was suppose to win or that these were all upsets, I'm just saying that there were alot of notable teams fall short last night. Was it because of the bad luck of Friday the 13th? I thought it would make for a good discussion thread.
With all of that said, how did Friday the 13th treat your teams?

Well the Black Bears came back from a 21 point deficit at halftime to win their game!! 13 is my lucky number. Always has been. I was born on the 13th!! So the day was pretty good for us!!
I believe this loss for Belfry will pay dividends down the road. I know it was a difficult trip but I’ve never seen PCN back down from anything.

You may or may not get moved up, but all the really good teams that got beat that were in front of you played other really good teams so I wouldnât hold my breath on moving up too much . In the new RPI that comes out in a few weeks, hanging 80 on someone doesnât count for squat. It gets the same weight as does beating someone 2-0.
