No question but it seems to be more than just that. The loss of Coach Harp may have been an even bigger blow.

NKY football as a whole.

You wont see one team in the state finals this year.

Belfry. The Pirates always are among the most improved teams in the state between the season opening kick-off and the playoffs but losing to a 1A Pikeville team that squeaked by 1A opponents Paintsville and Raceland by a combined total of 7 points has to be disappointing. The loss to Alter was not unexpected but I did not expect the Pirates to get shutout.

I would have said Southwestern, but Southwestern never lives up to the preseason hype.

I can handle this because I know what potential Belfry has. However, I believe this to be a premature assumption that what has happened in the first four games is how the whole season will go. You have to take into consideration that Belfry has played the last two games without arguably the best player in the eastern part of the state.

No argument here. I have seen Belfry teams make drastic improvement throughout the regular season on a regular basis. Still, I cannot believe that Belfry fans are not very disappointed in how the season has gone so far. I doubt that Johnson Central is expecting an easy win over Belfry. I wish that matchup could be scheduled earlier in the season.

I agree Hoot there is probably some disappointment, but I think it’s mainly in the loss to Pikeville when you out gain them 1.5 to 1, and then the injury factor keeping Dixon off the field. But all teams have to deal with injuries at some point.

Gotta love multiple Belfry excuses on multiple threads lol. About as ludicrous as Belfry being a disappointment after 4 games. Sheesh.

The thread topic said "so far." I interpreted that to mean after the games played so far this season. Belfry has played four games, out of which it was shutout in one game and lost another game to a 1A rival.

I can tell you that if Johnson Central lost to Paintsville and had been shutout in one of its first four games, the players, fans, and coaches would be disappointed in the way the season had started.

I do not expect Belfry to have a disappointing season because Haywood's teams always seem to peak at the right time of the year. But that was not the question that was asked. In fact, I expect Belfry to win another state title this season.

If Belfry has shown you enough this year to make you believe they will win another championship, how is that a disappointment. If you think the Pikeville loss was bad, find Pikeville in the Calpreps rankings then scroll down to find Johnson Central. Also note how much greater Pikeville strength of schedule is than JC's. So while Belfry fans are undoubtedly very disappointed to lose to their county rival, at this point in the year it would have been more disappointing to lose to JC. Would have got less RPI points for losing to JC as well as Pikeville's RPI is much higher than JC's.

I think anytime a 3A or 4A contender loses to any 1A team, the loss has to be a disappointment.

I believe that you are smart enough to know how a Johnson Central - Pikeville game would most likely end. I believe that Pikeville has the highest RPI in the state. Do you think that means that they are better than Male and Trinity? I think it is a silly way to compare teams.

JC has played only one team ranked higher than ANY team Pikeville has faced. As for smarts, I don't think you have any more football smarts than the Belfry fans who were predicting a blowout the other night. But keep whipping up on Bishop Sycamore and telling us how disappointing Belfry losing to Bishop Alter and Pikeville is lol.

And you keep telling us how Pikeville, a 1A school owning a 1 point over Paintsville and a 6 point win over Raceland is better than Johnson Central because it has a better RPI and strength of schedule over half a season.

Pikeville has had some teams worthy of a top 10 ranking but this isn't one of them. They will probably finish undefeated and may win the state title but they will be the weakest of any of the state champions, IMO, and that is the why football is a classified sport. Belfry draws players from a much larger pool of talent and that is why any loss to Pikeville should be disappointing.

Knox Central
Southwestern

Officiating. People yell and scream at them with constantly so keeping good ones is tough. Feels like the problem is growing.

You know Hoot, I was agreeing with most you said to Jet until you put that part about the weakest in there. Now that may be your opinion and that’s fine but that by no means is a true statement because we really can’t put any facts to that. I am a Pikeville fan but I never come on here and act like I am the football guru and know all the facts about any of these teams. But maybe your way smarter than the rest of us. But as always GO PANTHERS!!!

I’d agree with Southwestern, we should be a lot better than what we are.

I dont think that's Jets argument. I dont read him saying Pikeville is better than JC. I think he is refering to the RPI of each school comparitively and how a loss to either would affect Belfrys current RPI. Just my 2 cents.
#24
Right Scotty, Hoot still doesn't realize Pikeville's schedule is exponentially tougher than JC's up to this point.
#25
I'd have to say Corbin fans would say they've been disappointing to this point in the season. Losing a close game to Pulaski isn't a terrible loss, but, one I'm sure they expected to win, then a blowout loss to a 1-3 Beechwood team had to sting. I expected Corbin to be a Top 5 4a team this year, but, they're likely outside the Top 10 right now.

Nah. Not worth it. Deleted post.

Don’t throw 30 flags on one team and 4 on the other. 🤷🏻*♂️ Amateur refs are so biased now days and it shows.
