I understand Paintsville was without their starting quarterback, but there is no way they should be ranked ahead of Hazard in the RPI. This is one of the many problems with these ratings.

This is where schedules come into play. Compare them. Paintsvilleâs schedule has been much tougher than Hazards up to this point. Hazard will be joining the 2 loss club next week.

The âhead to headâ win should weigh more, in my opinion. Especially, with Hazard playing a solid schedule and having a better record. I just donât care much for the new system.

Need to go away from RPI and adopt a version of West Virginia's point system.

Hazard opponents: 13-15
Paintsville opponents: 17-9
This system means nothing right now. People are getting way too bent outta shape at this point. Wait til the end of the regular season, then weâll see if this system is worth a poop.

Go take a look at KCD schedule, I think the teams they have played are 14 and 24 or 26 I canât remember. RPI system definitely needs some attention

Agree the RPI ratings are crap.

Makes no difference from my perspective no other 1A team capable going to Belfry and winning. Everyone playing for the runner up trophy.

I could be wrong, but seems like I read on here somewhere that Belfry had like a running back out or something.

Pikeville has been and will continue to be the favorite. But they are beatable.

Iâll just go ahead and say it. This system SUCKS. BAD. Itâs a joke.

They are definitely beatable. But they are improving and get less beatable by
the week. It's still going to be very exciting playoffs.
09-29-2019, 04:52 AM
So question I got is, if KCD is still ranked at number 2 based off RPI how will that affect the playoffs setting or will it?

If I am not mistaken all teams are beatable except for the New England Patriots

Well for one it gives them homefield until the championship game, plus they play the lowest seed on the west side until the semi finals, or thatâs the way I take it any way. Now I maybe wrong Spud6 but I am sure if I am I will get corrected.

So if playoffs were tomorrow you’d have Pikeville vs Holy Cross and then KCD vs Paintsville? Going to be interesting to see what this Rankings looks like at the end of the year.

Schedule

So Pikeville remains undefeated, and thus far has beaten THREE 3A schools, a WV 2A school, two schools in 1A top 5, and their RPI took that big of a dip after the LC win? Now I see why I hated math class. Lol
Hereâs another one of my points about the new system. Itâs hard for these people to know how much this games mean to teams(especially in the east which I am more familiar with) to each of them when they play each other. The ratings take the heart and soul out of these young men. Now if some of the top teams in this rating in the west played at least one of this teams from the east it would give a better perspective of how teams should be rated. Now I know Williamsburg has played some of them but are they some of the best. Itâs a difficult situation if you ask me but this is strictly my opinion. Another one and I am using this as an example Raceland lost their starting quarterback( I know they have still played good football with their other quarterbacks) so do they judge the loss of players that are going to return. Plus at least everyone hopes their teams improve over the year how do you rate that. I do know they reseed after a certain round but do they keep the same rating numbers. A good example is the 2017 Panthers were 1 and 4 and went on to lose in the semifinals to Raceland 17 to 14. I know you just have to win the games in front of you but this system does not guarantee the two best teams will be in the championship but really did the old system. In my opinion it didnât either

Well to me itâs basically the same if you have the highest rating then you have the highest standings. What does the R stand for in RPI? Not being smart but it definitely is a rating system.

I agree PHSForever, the Panthers RPI should be through the roof! They are, in my opinion, the best team in 1A and it's not even close. Not only that, I think they would possibly be a top 3 team in 2A and 3A as well. I'm not sure how this RPI thing works but if I was a Pikeville fan, and I am after my Pirates, I wouldn't be to worried.

Its not predictive. Its not meant to be. This is where many peoples angst about it comes from.

Not saying itâs predictive, the issue is it is not even INDICATIVE of their strength of schedule for many programs (look at Belfry schedule).

Weighting based on Class alone is just short sighted. Plenty of Class A team that are much better opponents than 4, 5 and 6A.

I am PHSFOREVER, because the team that has the highest RPI will be the #1 seed. If they are not then why even put the numbers out there. So it is predictive.

Tell me what you guys think about this, certainly it works better than this RPI system and reveals your true strength of schedule too. This ranking system takes three things into consideration and uses simple addition to calculate the final total. Those three factors are...
1. A team's power rating: Number of wins a team has minus number of losses.
2. Combined power rating of the teams which you have defeated.
3. Subtract the number of losses each team you lose to has.
This rewards your overall record, while identifying the quality of teams you play and rewarding you for playing tough teams even if you lose.
I am just doing the single A ranking because I don't have hours to go through the entire state...
(Ranking - Team - Final Total)
1. Pikeville 14
2. Williamsburg 1
3. Raceland -1

Well at least I can understand it. The only problem I see what do you do when you have ties? I know that could be figured out pretty easily.
