Congratulations to Estill County!

Final from Breathitt County in Triple OT.
Shew Wee what a game. Hats off to both teams.
Estill misses the game tying shot in regulation with seconds left, Tolson ends up with the ball gets fouled, slams ball down in excitement, gets T'd up for it. Benton makes both free throws to tie it up 48-48. Isfort misses the game winner. Overtime #1.
Estill is up biggest part of the overtime, 7 was the largest lead and was up that many late but costly turnovers and some clutch shooting from Wilgus Tolson brings Wolfe back and it's tied 62 all going into OT #2.
Overtime #2 was back and forth with several lead changes. Willis missed the game winning shot for Estill at the end of the 2nd OT.
Overtime #3.
Benton starts it out with a deep 3. Isfort would make 1/2 to make it 73-71. Teams would then trade some baskets. Wolfe was up late 78-77. Estill had two good looks but couldn't make them, luckily both attempts would go out of bounds off a Wolfe player. Kade Benton with the ball with seconds on the clock takes a 3 in front of the Estill bench and nothing but nylon. Tolson's heeve from half court hits off top of backboard.
Estill advances to take on Cordia on Sunday.

Benton had to have close to 45 if not more,. give or take for Estill. He was on fire. Same thing for Tolson. I know he had over 20 in the second half alone.

45? Good lord

I was off by 8. 37 for Benton.

Good for him. Every kid in the mountains dreams of that kinda game on that stage. Especially with the game winner. Awesome.

I was rooting for Wolfe, however that cost them the game. They was up two with the ball. I watched the district championship between Wolfe and bhs and Elijah tolson is the same kid that threw the medal after the game that night. Coach creech should have disciplined the kid for that.

I wished you could show emotion as long as you're not doing it in a way that berates the other team. I guess the ref made the "right" call but I think nothing would have been said if it wasn't called. Maybe just go over to him and tell him if he does it again it's a T.(03-03-2022, 12:11 AM)Strikeout King Wrote: Final from Breathitt County in Triple OT.Just clarifying it was Elijah tolson that slammed the ball down and got called for the technical foul, which was a good call. The common sense call was to call the technical in that situation excited or not he knew better then to slam ball any player should know better then to slam the ball like that no matter the situation it’s going to be a T when you slam the ball up in the air I hate to see his high school career end like that but it was the right call

It was the only call they could make if there is still time on the clock.
Really really bad time for that to take place.
They were going to inbound the ball with a chance to add to the lead after being fouled and getting in the bonus.
Can't blame the referees.

So does intent or judgment not have anything to do with the rule? Spiking the ball is an automatic T? It was obvious the kid was not trying to show up the official or doing it cause of a bad call.
The purpose of the rule is to not do it out of anger or to show the official. I would just think the ref has an option to use some judgement in that call. Can't argue that call change the game.

Yes the call most definitely changed the game Wolfe would’ve won the game if it wasn’t for the technical in my opinion but it still don’t change the fact that you can’t slam the call with time left on the clock no matter if it’s out of anger or excitement it just can’t happen

Yes, it was likely that Wolfe would’ve went on to win but not a given. 4.5 seconds left on clock and Wolfe wasn’t in the bonus. Estill only had 5 team fouls. You are correct though, still can’t do it. Hated to see it go like that for the kid but it’s about more than basketball. In the good and bad in life, have to keep your composure.

Are they justcl certain times you call intentional fouls.earlier in the game intentional foul was called.Tilson got the rebound intentionally got pushed in the back before them the slam.why ain't that intentional

I hate to see the technical overshadow the fact that there were a number of huge plays made in this game especially in overtime. Big play after big play. Big shot after big shot. Estill may have benefited from the technical but wow ,how many plays did they have to make to win the game ? This was an instant classic. I’m sure glad I got to watch it.

Nobody is saying Estill didn't make plays.
Congratulations to the Estill team and coaches. Benton played exceptionally well. He is a warrior.
