Braxton Keathley Nets 51
#1
I felt this deserved its own thread. 51 points tonight by Braxton Keathley in Prestonsburg’s victory at Mingo Central. A career high for Keathley and what I’d imagine is a top 5 performance in Prestonsburg High School Basketball history. And he’s just a sophomore. Congrats, kid!

Wow! Have a game then young man! Does anyone from Prestonsburg know of any performances that compare to this one? I can’t recall any from 2011ish-now. I actually don’t recall any 50 point games in the 15th region since 2017 when Timmy Dalton from LC and Mason Blair from JC had a couple.

Watched the first half and he couldn’t miss. Nights like that don’t happen very often.

Happy for Braxton and the Blackcats!

I can't remember the exact point total but Michael Burchett scored at least 42 on 02/18/10 but that was almost 15 years ago. He outscored Paintsville by himself that night.

Also, congrats to Braxton! I went back and watched, and he really took a lot of shots within the flow of the offense. He's gotten a lot stronger and drives so well to the rim!

I imagine it’s possibly the best performance by a Pburg player ever. Honestly, to me, the thing that I love the most about this performance is that he probably had a season high in assists too. Nobody doubts his work ethic or talent but I did have doubts about his ability to make the other 4 players on the floor around him better. This is the mark of truly great players and I feel like he took a huge step in that direction in this game. Congrats to him on a truly monumental feat!

There was another night Michael had at least 40 against South Floyd at home his senior year but I don’t think he ever eclipsed 50. Might be a school record.

Not sure about Robert, he very well could have, his would’ve been the 2015-16 season. But you’re right about Brady Dingess, he did have a 50 point game in 2022.

Timmy Dalton had a 60 pt triple double in a win over greenup county. Here is a quote from article on KHSAA database from Mile Fields

“After Lawrence County basketball star Timmy Dalton poured in a school-record 60 points to go with 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a 106-103 victory at Greenup County Monday night, the 6-foot-3 senior asked the media if they would henceforth refer to him as Tim Dalton.”

Congrats to Braxton on a once a decade type performance! I got a feeling he could have more of those type of nights.

This young man can play. He puts in the work and is reaping the rewards. Congratulations to Braxton!

All those gym sessions definitely starting to pay off, only up from here for this kid. This young man will be very special.

Heck of a performance, this kid has great work ethic and it's unmatched. I remember picking my wife & daughter up from blackcat madness before the season started, went in and was talking to her, it was close to 9-9:30, there was a few other people in there just chit chatting, and he was ready to do a workout, it takes that kind of dedication & commitment to be great. By the other comments, looked like he didn't force the issue and played within the rhythm of the offense, which as a Pburg fan that's what you want to see, if he can keep doing that, combine it with the leadership of Allen & Napier and give the other young guys some confidence, Pburg might have something here, being on a 3 game win streak sure helps things out. Should be a good test coming up tonight as they host Phelps.

Betsy Layne

Jordan Frasure had 50 on Pike Central
couple years ago.
Peyton Case had 50 in Lexington Catholic Tournament
Jeremy Daniels had 50 over Feds Creek

My mind is a little off these days but these 3 standout for me.

Landon Slone had 51 against Valley, first round of the Regional tournament as a freshman.

Tournament was at Valley, they were the favorite to win it and did win it.

They beat Paintsville by 4 in Double OT.

To do what he done in that environment, against the favorite on their home floor, still one of the best single game performances I've ever seen at the high school level. He got whatever he wanted that night, but Valley had the experience, toughness and home court on their side that night.

I remember watching that game and thinking it was one of the best 15th region games I’ve ever seen.

I was there as well, and still think the same thing to this day. Like I said, just the environment, and scenario of going up against the favorite on their home floor. A lot of people thought it would be a blowout.
