Way to Early 14th Region Rankings 25-26
#31
It would be tough to do a realignment unless you realign the entire state at once.
Estill borders the 14th, and that's all it takes.
Harlan County borders three counties in the 14th and only one in the 13th, for example.

Harlan County would be perfect edition to the 14th

Estill is “far away” regardless of which region you could place them in. The county sits at the connection point for four regions: 10th, 11th, 13th and 14th. They have been in three of those regions, the 11th, 10th and now 14th. Because of their unusual location they are the longest road trip for all schools in those four regions. And they have to be somewhere, and the 14th is okay by me. In addition, yes….they are a mountain county. If you don’t believe me travel route 52 from Beattyville to Irvine and cross Cow Creek Mountain. I assure it seems like the top of the world when you finally get to the top of that mountain.

And on a side note, while crossing the mountain on 52 bring along some old milk jugs and fill up with crystal clear spring water that runs from a pipe out of a limestone area of the mountain. Best tasting water in the state.

Absolutely 0 chance.  But Owsley will be competing for another Regional Title this year with Hazard.

I’m glad to see your back even though you have zero knowledge about game conversation.   I stand on both statements, time will tell.

I think all regions need new alignments. No reason to have 3 team districts. They need to take distance into consideration as well. Truthfully, I feel we need to do away with districts, or at least the tournament. Have the districts seed with the 1 seed going into the region. Use something like the RPI (needs improved) to put the next best 4 in. As for who needs to go where, I have no idea but we do need a complete overhaul on region alignments.

I used to see the logic of doing away with districts and still do, but what's the harm in letting 64 teams win district championships. I don't see the problem in making teams earn their way to the regional, even if it's not that hard for some of them.

Kentucky absolutely hates change even when it’s for the best. Nothing wrong with rocking the boat a little bit.

I was at the KHSAA meeting in Lexington in 2005 and I recall one selling point that the AD and principal made for Estill County when they asked to be moved from the 10th region to the 14th region during the last big statewide realignment was that in order for them to get to any of the teams they had to play in the 10th region they had to drive through Powell County, a 14th region county, for them to get to their destination.

I'm pretty sure the top of the world is Harlan County, but I get your point :) I always think it's funny when I see some sort of "mountain all star" list and Harlan County isn't included.
No way Estill will move to the 11th. It already has too many schools with 19. I'd guess the 10th is the alternative.

I agree with the “top of the world” being in Harlan County. I’ve been through there a few times and they have some wildly high mountains and curvy roads. Lol
Estill County is not going anywhere. They’re happy in the 14th. They have already been in the 11th region. They were moved from the 11th to the 10th in the mid ‘70s, and stayed there until the 2005-06 season when they were moved to the 14th. As I mentioned in my previous post, for them to travel to any 10th region school they have to go through Stanton or Clay City in Powell County. It would make zero sense to move them out of the region that their #1 rival and border neighbor, Powell County, is assigned.
Estill and Powell is a natural rivalry, too. Besides being neighbors they also have almost identical high school enrollments of approximately 650 students.

You’ve got me.  I can tell now that you know what you’re talking about and not just a person with a kid not good enough to play for them or person upset about Owsley’s success.  Congratulations.

Last 7 Years:
5 District Titles
1 Runner-up
2 All A Titles (22 and 24)
2 All A State Tournament Wins
2022 Regional Runner Up
2024 14th Region Champion

Definitely a Bottom Feeder. lol

Not to mention losing Addie Terry and Lynch girl. If Addie stayed, they’d won 10 more games and maybe won the region.

Don’t have to be drunk to say Addison Terry would made Owsley a contender this year if she hadn’t went to Montgomery County. Also lost the Lynch girl to graduation. Lost two key players besides Smith. Pass me a Coors Light.

I thought Owsley would still be competitive in the region even with Terry leaving.
I was wrong.
I don't think she would have been enough to help them win the region again.

I think everyone did.   But they showed their age at critical times and it cost them several games.  Then a string of injuries at end of year really hurt them down the stretch.  Expect them to be back at top in contention to win a region this year.

I agree with Medusa
In summer play in 2024, before Addison Terry transferred to Montgomery, Owsley played Knott at a Leslie Co summer game in June. Knott had both McAlarnis girls plus 6’2 Pollard. Knott beat Owsley by 1 point in overtime with a ref officiating the game who lived in Hindman. If Terry had not transferred it was a most definite fact that the Lady Owls would have been in the thick of the race for the regional championship. But alas when she moved on it left Owsley with a very young team of freshmen and sophomores with zero juniors and seniors.
