Shelby Valley Football Field
#61
two color blue Wrote:Belfry has the better looking complex, including turf. SVHS has that track on the perimeter of the field, which put the fans far away from the field. Also the visitors have to walk out of the field, across the parking lot and back in just to get to the concession and restrooms. P.S. Also the visitors have to smell that septic system behind the bleachers.

How many games have you been to at Valley? Away fans can walk down the bleachers, onto the track, around it, and down the steps to the concession, you would be the laughing stock of the game if you walked around the parking lot to go to the concession stand.

BelfryPride Wrote:AS a matter of fact, most visiting teams to Belfry don't bring enough people to fill the away side bleachers with the exception of Sheldon Clark and Prestonsburg and maybe a couple of others.

Come gametime, if the visitors side is not full, our own fans will sit over there.Smile

Also, since everything but the turf was funded by the state, you have to take what they (the state) gives you. Belfry don't have enough seating for their own fans, but the state installs bleachers based on the student body count just like the size of the newer gymnasiums like ER, Belfry and PCC.

Valley has had their bleachers for years and I guarantee if their school was a new school, theirs would be smaller too.

No school is "better" than another school because the size of the bleachers or the fact that they have turf or a video scoreboard. All of this talk reminds me of the classic "mine's better than yours" stuff you said as a kid.

We as parents and fans and community should be proud of our kids that get out there and bust their butts in practice everyday whether or not they play on grass, turf or in the mud and regardless of whether we sit on bleachers or lawn chairs. The kids are the reason why we are there, not the facility.

NICE POST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insight Wrote:Yea, you think Pikeville would have a top notch bleacher set up. They would mess up there baseball field I guess if they added bleachers for the away teams.
Pikeville doesn't have bleachers on the away side because you can't put bleachers on the turf. It would mess it up and since Pikeville's is a football/baseball field, on have one set.

If you will look you will find that they have a new fence this year to keep fans off the field on that side. GO CHECK.

Ive been down on the field and its great, i've ran on it. I think its the best field around here. I wish valley would have had a good field last year when i played there.

The track was locked for the first game, so now you have to walk around the parking lot to the concession stand...

I've been to my first and last at VALLEY until some changes are made.
It was the most unhospitable place I have ever been.
SV LOCKED THE TRACK and Yes, visitors had to walk the parking lot to get the visiting bleachers or travail a creekbank around the perimeter fence to get to the restrooms and concessions.
BTW...I also saw them let a handicapped young man in a wheelchair in on the track to watch the game but they locked the gate behind him.
I guess if you ain't from Valley we'll take your money but we don't care if you get to see the game or not.
Sad

I really think an apology from comeflywithme should be coming.
#71
lol. an apology? That's the most far-fetched thing you'll be getting from me. Sorry to tell you but this was the first game that those gates have been locked, and like I said, have you ever been to a valley game before that? I guess not, one person said it was his first and last. Things had never ben like that before, and I'd say they never will be again. You can stop anticipating an apology about right now.

That's about what I expected from you. I love high school football and go to valley three of four times every year. The best games are those you do no have an partial interest in. I like the complex, just not as much as Belfry and Pikeville.

Well why does he owe you and apology for??
#75
I've been to all three, and they are all three great. However, Pikeville and Belfry at least pride themselves on keeping the trash picked up. In my opinion, those are the two nicest fields in the area.... easy access, lots of room, no bad odors, a clean complex, you can't see the seams in the turf, etc.... All around, Pike County is lucky to have three facilities like this in the area.... are more to come?
#76
Could have done something different than just solid blue endzones...IMO. Still a nice facility though.

NYY10 Wrote:Well why does he owe you and apology for??

Because he talk without knowing the up to date facts.

Honestly I like SV better than Belfry's ! I like the little mound at the end of the field where it says wildcats ! Maybe Prestonsburg is next in line !
#79
You know something we don't blackcat??? Are the cats next in line for the artifical surface?

NYY10 Wrote:That was for the first game and the first game only, beside, Walking dont do any harm to anybody
It's kind of tough for the young man who cannot walk who was locked on the track by himself.
First game, only game...who cares, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Well I hope that all teams get Turf, Its great to play on
#82
I think P'burg will be next to get turf, but I really hope Sheldon Clark will get it. Maybe if Hager keeps the team growing and winning ball games, it might get the right people's attention.

GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!

IRISH4 Wrote:You know something we don't blackcat??? Are the cats next in line for the artifical surface?
They may be next in line, but they arn't in the same line as SV. Being in two different school districts would keep them from having anything to do with each other. I think that I can remember reading that all of the Pike County schools will have turf by 2010? So that leaves, PC, Phelps, and ER. Not sure on these facts though.

I knew that there were in two seperate school districts. Just curious if they have a private donor paying for it.

Tottaly agree it did look alot better when it was mad eof white rocks but after the years wed's started growing and the grounds crew wasn't much for a while and just started to look bad.

IMO top fields in Pike County-

1.Shelby Valley-the away bleachers, the turf the blue endzones(love em), the home bleahcers great facility.
2.Blefry-Like the Pirates in the endzone, not much on the parking for big crowds, aint the walk to the consession stands a pretty long little walk itself for the away team or the walk to the away bleachers.
3.Pikeville-nice turf, nice fence around the field along with the flowers, not so much on the bleahcers.
4.ER-I like this field nice little set up.
5.PC-Never liked playing on this field, dont know why could just be my hate for PC lol.
6. Phelps-nuff said.
#86
ER needs to fix the away team's side line. It is nothing but a mud hole when it rains.

this place will never be as nice as belfry or pikeville until they string together a few decades of winning not just 1 year.
#88
I think Belfry has the better looking facility, but they do need more bleachers it would be nice if they had some bleachers in the endzone against the hill. All the pike county schools should be proud of what they have our places are as nice as any schools in the state.

What does winning have to do with how nice a facility is?
