How much you wanna bet that "one of the first three wins reinstated" is the Valley game?
09-29-2006, 11:27 PM
It doesn't say which one does it?? Not sure.... and I haven't heard anything on which one its gonna be... just thought I would post it on here because it was discussed a couple of weeks ago!

If the ruleing was reversed, why would only 1 of the 3 be reversed? It seems like all 3 would be.

See, what I was thinking is that they'll rule the out of state game, Shelby Valley, the win because it's not an in state game and won't effect Valley or Matewan's ratings.

I also heard that they would be looked at individually.

It seems like the only fair thing to do is let their wins be wins and loses be loses... the boy is able to play. Thinking it like that, he should have been able to play all season. So why change what the scoreboard said at the end of each game?

anyone know a site that i can get on that is like this one but has matewan stats and stuff on it?
09-29-2006, 11:54 PM
I saw on the WV football rankings that Matewan in ranked #4! Not bad!!

If it's true and he's eligible then Matewan should get the first 3 games of their season back. That would put them at 5-0 after tonight. Shelby Valley should be hit with a loss for their first game. Because they lost. I wouldn't feel good knowing the only reason I won a game is because somebody gave it to me anyway.

It's a load of crap. They're giving Matewan the WILLIAMSON game (Williamson might win 2 or 3 games this season), but not the other 2. Looks like it was meant as a "fair trade" kind of thing. Thing is, taking those other 2 wins from Matewan would put them probably in the top 10 instead of top 4, and they'd have to travel later in the post season, likely to one of the single A teams up north, near Wheeling. Guess where the WVSSAC is located?
Cookies and milk if you guess WHEELING!
What it really boils down to is that the members (or at least some of them) of the WVSSAC didn't feel like traveling to Matewan (on the other side of the state) for a semi-final game, when it could be played in their own back yard.
Now, while my feelings toward Matewan and Yogi in particular are quite open, and my disgust for him is legendary, I still feel this is a weak decision. The boys of Matewan don't deserve to be punished for laziness by their coach, nor for poor rules set forth by the WVSSAC. As things stand now...
EDIT: They must have moved it to Parkersburg. I remember the WVSSAC being in Wheeling eons ago when I was in HS, but apparently now it's in Parkersburg.

Im Just Happy That Its About To Get Lined Out. Maybe These Young Men Can Go Back To Playing Football, And Epling Can Finish Out His Senior Year And Salvage Some Good Memories. I Would Hate To Think That All This Crap Would Sum Up His High School Experience. Good Luck Garrett And Matewan Boys... Finish The Season With A Bang!!!!

From what I understand Epling transfered to a school in North Carolina at some point during his junior season and then came back. Once you transfer then you can't play any sport for the school 6 months after you come back and that six months ended after their first two games. So he was only eligible starting with the Williamson game.
