I am not an Ashland hater, I support them when they do not play RUSSELL...BUT I dont see them that high,,,, maybe tied with BELFRY,RUSSELL at the 4 spot...

Even so, Ashland still beat Belfry and Russell so they deserve to be just ahead of them. But the three are fairly even.
I would rank them this way:
1. Johnson Central
2. Rockcastle Co.
3. Bell Co.
4. Ashland
5. Belfry
6. Russell
7. Breathitt Co.
8. Pikeville
9. Sheldon Clark

I have them that high because they DID beat 2A #4 Belfry, and they DID beat 2A #3 Russell. Why would I put them in a tie with two teams that they beat, just because it was close and went into overtime? There was still a winner. If Belfry, or Russell, had beaten Ashland, I'd have them ranked higher. Maybe Ashland won't district, or make it past the second round of the playoffs, but this thread isn't about who will go furthest in the playoffs. It's about the best teams in Eastern Kentucky. If you notice, I have the most likely 2nd round matchup for Ashland at the #1 spot, so I don't see how that even makes much sense on your part to even mention that Ashland won't win district or make it past the 2nd round.
Yes, Ashland did lose to 1A #8 Raceland (6-1), and so has everyone else they've played except for 1A #11 LCA (6-2). Raceland played a better game that night over an injury depleted Ashland team who was missing 3 offensive linemen, QB, and top 2 WR (because one was switched to QB, and the other went out with an injury during the first few snaps of the game) on offense. There was also a DE and FS injuried on defense, and a M playing out of position at FS to cover for injuries, bringing in another non-starter at M. Those are just the injuries I can recall from the Raceland game.
Yes, Ashland did play a close game with a very fast and underrated 3A #13 Mason County team. But Ashland was able to fairly dominate the 2nd half for the come from behind victory. Mason's only losses are to 3A #10 Ashland (6-1) and 4A #7 Lafayette (7-0).
So I wouldn't be considering Raceland or Mason County pushovers. Who has been the stiffest competition for Belfry or Russell this season?
Russell's best opponent for the regular season besides Ashland is either Greenup or Boyd. Not exactly the toughest schedule. I know Russell plays Ashland, Boyd, and Greenup as rivalries and the rest of their schedule is dictated by 7 district games which gives them no flexibility in scheduling, and the fact that their district is very poor talent wise. There is not a single team ranked, or mentioned, on the AP poll, except for Ashland, on Russell's schedule. But the only point I want to make is that Ashland's schedule has been much more demanding, as has Belfry's.
Belfry's schedule is much tougher with games against 1A #11 Newport Central Catholic, 3A #10 Ashland, and 1A #15 Pikeville. Their district is also much stronger than Russell's featuring 2A #11 Sheldon Clark, Prestonsburg, and 2A #13 Shelby Valley. Ashland's schedule is also a bit tougher than Belfry's
Ashland's schedule consists of 1A #8 Raceland, 2A #3 Russell, 2A #4 Belfry, Prestonsburg, 3A #13 Mason County, and 3A #3 Johnson Central.
So, I'll repose the question back to you. Why would you NOT have Ashland that high? They beat Russell (when it was Russell's only game on their entire schedule that they had a real chance of losing), beat Belfry, beat Prestonsburg, beat Mason County, and lost to Raceland while being injury depleted? If anyone has a stink, it should be Raceland.

No, neither team could come close to how good Middlesboro is playing this year. I think they will contend for a state title.

Russell played the WORST game in 3 years.... we had 1 offensive play in the first quarter and still was up 7-0.... Russell could not give that game away.....so yea any team can win on any day I understand..... Russell can do nothing about the schedule so dont penalize us for that.....next year we will play everyone you listed except JC, and Belfry in the regular season.. Yea I know that next year is different.... We may actually win against Ashland next year too..... LORD WILLING...
I just dont see why,,, So is BELFRY ranked above Russell because of their schedule, or because they were beaten in 1 OT,, rather than 3... just wondering...........Man we can go on for days on this and all I can say ....... I am glad we live in a free country to list OUR top 10........ I guess you saw my top 10................
Great to have you on here T-CAT 50,,, to argue the points with....... good luck Ashland in the rest of the season....

Russell may have played their worst game in 3 years, but Ashland didn't exactly play up to par either.
Ashland drives the ball down inside the 5 to start the game, Russell forces a fumble and it get returns for a TD by Jones. That's a quick 7-14 point shift in the game in Russell's favor. Could have been 7-0 Ashland but is instead 7-0 Russell.
Ashland runs their next drive. Russell gets the ball back, Clark gets hit deep in the backfield and Ashland forces a fumble and recovers. Ashland sustains a drive and ends the 1st quarter.
So, if you take the first quarter, with the exception of one HUGE play made by Jones, Ashland really dominates the portion of the game and would be driving in for a 14-0 lead but instead is trying to tie it up at 7-7 to start the 2nd quarter.
Trying to say that Russell "could not give the game away" because of their 1st quarter performance, is actually the opposite. Ashland was able to sustain long drives, and keep the Russell offense off of the field.. I don't see how that would be Russell trying to give the game away.
You could easily put the shoe on the other foot and say Ashland was trying to give the game away because they committed 5 turnovers in the game, yet still came away with the win.
I often see better teams lose when they commit 5 turnovers, but rarely see the lower team win after they commit 5 turnovers.
As for ranking Belfry above Russell, no it had nothing to do with the OT portions or lengths of the game. I watched those 2 teams play back to back weeks against the same competition. Ashland was able to commit 5 turnovers and still beat Russell, while it took several Belfry turnovers, as well as a questionable TD called back, to get beat by Ashland.
A team can play better or worse on any week, but that's the only game I've seen either play to compare.

I thought about but since Johnson Central is still undefeated, I went with them despite the fact that their schedule is a little suspect.
